A Right Pain (New Bump Lists)
vanity

Posted on 02/05/2002 9:51:21 AM PST by toenail

It's a right pain to notify FReepers in another state of an article or event that may interest them. The state-based "My Locale" is great for communicating with others in your state. But to notify someone not in your state, you have to switch your locale, post, then switch your locale back. Or, you could find someone from that state and ask them to post it to their "My Locale."

So, I added the 50 states + DC to the FR Bump List Register ( http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/bump-list). So, if you see an article that would be of particular interest to a certain state, just bump the state. For instance, if you post an article concerning an upcoming event and potential FReep in Vermont, just post a reply to *Vermont. This thread is a good example of what this might alleviate.

The state bump lists are formatted as: asterisk, full name of the state, with spaces replaced by underscores. And *Washington_DC.

*Alabama
*Alaska
*Arizona
*Arkansas
*California
*Colorado
*Connecticut
*Delaware
*Florida
*Georgia
*Hawaii
*Idaho
*Illinois
*Indiana
*Iowa
*Kansas
*Kentucky
*Louisiana
*Maine
*Maryland
*Massachusetts
*Michigan
*Minnesota
*Mississippi
*Missouri
*Montana
*Nebraska
*Nevada
*New_Hampshire
*New_Jersey
*New_Mexico
*New_York
*North_Carolina
*North_Dakota
*Ohio
*Oklahoma
*Oregon
*Pennsylvania
*Rhode_Island
*South_Carolina
*South_Dakota
*Tennessee
*Texas
*Utah
*Vermont
*Virginia
*Washington
*West_Virginia
*Wisconsin
*Wyoming
*Washington_DC

Unless it's going to cause some horrific database problems, this should make it a little easier to keep up on issues concerning your state.

To: **Missouri
How to bump: in the To: box, put an additional asterisk in front of the actual bump-list name, like **Missouri or **New_Jersey.

So, for instance, if you see an article about Jean Carnahan's re-election campaign and figure that it's of extra relevance to Missourians (heaven help us), just post a reply to **Missouri.

The only problem I see is that some of the State bump list names are also freeper names.

FRiends, please, please, please do not spam bump South Dakota every time D'ashole angers you!

Having to answer for him really gets tiresome for us South Dakota FReepers! :o)

We know he's a maggot-infested-koolaid-sucking-McGovernite-commielib. We're trying to unseat him, okay?

It's not a ping list; it's a bump list. Unless you visit South Dakota's bump list, you'll never be bothered.

Mass ping lists would last about 20 seconds here. I don't want to be pinged with something every time Dump Gephardt or Carnahan opens their mouths. But if I want a list of articles that people thought might be of interest to Missourians, I can just go to Missouri's list. Easy. If I see a thread that concerns South Dakota (Leroy Carhart threads, for instance), I can just bump it to **South_Dakota.

It's just a bump list -- not a ping list.

Please call the RNC and have Racicot tell Bush to go before the cameras and state his case about the stimulus package.

The number is (202) 863-8500
