It's a right pain to notify FReepers in another state of an article or event that may interest them. The state-based "My Locale" is great for communicating with others in your state. But to notify someone not in your state, you have to switch your locale, post, then switch your locale back. Or, you could find someone from that state and ask them to post it to their "My Locale."
So, I added the 50 states + DC to the FR Bump List Register ( http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/bump-list). So, if you see an article that would be of particular interest to a certain state, just bump the state. For instance, if you post an article concerning an upcoming event and potential FReep in Vermont, just post a reply to *Vermont. This thread is a good example of what this might alleviate.
The state bump lists are formatted as: asterisk, full name of the state, with spaces replaced by underscores. And *Washington_DC.
*Alabama
*Alaska
*Arizona
*Arkansas
*California
*Colorado
*Connecticut
*Delaware
*Florida
*Georgia
*Hawaii
*Idaho
*Illinois
*Indiana
*Iowa
*Kansas
*Kentucky
*Louisiana
*Maine
*Maryland
*Massachusetts
*Michigan
*Minnesota
*Mississippi
*Missouri
*Montana
*Nebraska
*Nevada
*New_Hampshire
*New_Jersey
*New_Mexico
*New_York
*North_Carolina
*North_Dakota
*Ohio
*Oklahoma
*Oregon
*Pennsylvania
*Rhode_Island
*South_Carolina
*South_Dakota
*Tennessee
*Texas
*Utah
*Vermont
*Virginia
*Washington
*West_Virginia
*Wisconsin
*Wyoming
*Washington_DC
Unless it's going to cause some horrific database problems, this should make it a little easier to keep up on issues concerning your state.
So let me make sure I understand this right. I've just "pinged" every FReeper that flies the Texas flag??
. . .uh-oh! I'm in trouble now. . .
"Don't mess with Texas!" 8^)
We North Carolina FReepers will certainly use it.
Didn't see it. It saves a lot of time remembering how to spell it.
I think *North_Carolina will be a lot easier for most to remember.
