NJ, No Founding Fathers? That's our new history Curriculum

The Pilgrims and the Mayflower also are excluded, as well as the word "war," which has been replaced with "conflict" in lessons about the early settlers, colonization and expansion.

Also gone are most references to the inhumane treatment many American soldiers endured in wars overseas during the 20th century. However, the standards specifically note that students should identify slavery, the Holocaust and modern Iraq as examples "i n which people have behaved in cruel and inhumane ways."

"New Jersey's current history standards, which also exclude most historical figures, were approved in 1996"

I'd really like to see some names here.

"Obviously, there are anti-patriotic forces at work at the New Jersey legislature."

He hit that nail right on the head.

"Some opponents said reciting the passage (from the Declaration of Independence) would do little to improve students' understanding of history."

On the contrary, they are afraid that it would teach them a little too much.

"Mr. Doolan said "If we get feedback from people who think we should include the names of
George Washington or Thomas Jefferson in the standards, then we'll do it."

Boy, is that big of them or what?
Why do they even bother to call it history if they arn't going to teach any?
Alghough I guess it does sound better than "PC conditioning" or "PC indoctrination".

I've already started the letter to my representative.

Probably won't do a whole lot of good, though.

Or am I being too pessimistic?

All you need to do is look at the history books that were in use when the American public schools were actually functional.

They are functional today, it's just that they have a different function.

I might also point out that I wasn't exactly given the whole story back when they were "functional" from a conservative viewpoint.

Is it time to form a Conservative or Constitutional Party?

Time will tell, I don't think I will be voting for republicans anymore.

There is/was a conservative party in NJ. Wonder what happened to it?

They may as well cut to the chase and teach Karl Marx. These dead white guys talked way too much about God, Freedom and Liberty.

Semper Fi.

"[The word] Pilgrim implies religion," said Brian Jones, vice president for Communications and Policy at the Education Leaders Council in Washington. "It's getting more difficult to talk about the Bible and the Puritans."

This is the true story; humanists must expunge God and his people from history.
Secular Humanism is a very intolerant religion!
At this rate America will be a third world power in a couple of generations.

I guarantee you that many conservative are definitely for absolishing govt. schools. They are nothing more than purveyors of relativism, atheism and revisionism - not to mention anti-americanism. That's way too many "isms" - what would the government do if ALL conservatives pulled their kids out of government schools in protest. It would not be feasible to arrest all the participating parents. At that point, if the schools wanted to survive, they would have to change their curriculum or be relegated to the lunatic fringe where they belong.

I agree with you. Already, America has lost its greatness. de Toqueville said, "America is great because she is good and when she ceases to be good she will cease to be great." This has already happened before our very eyes. Greatness is measured in moral values, not dollars or guns or crooked politicians or lame coalitions. Since all moral values flow from a Holy God, and since our govt. and institutions have rejected the Holy God, our nation is now officially immoral; and the immorality has been clearly manifest in 40 million dead babies, homosexual civil unions, euthanasia, historical revisionism, moral awfulness among the people, political corruption, and moral relativism.

Good question and good suggestion. Think you will get many conservatives to join in? Don't hold your breath waiting.

Another suggestion would be to get all conservative voters to vote against any candidate who doesn't advocate the dissolution of government schools. And then recall them if they don't deliver. Think that will fly either?

No it won't because mind-numbing apathy is now the order of the day. Most Americans (conservatives among them) care more about what movie is coming out this weekend than about their children's future. Good-bye sweet Republic...please just wait until I die before you roll over!

I agree, but it will affect my children and possible grandchildren no matter what.

Yes, and your point?

If a poster puts in NO keywords or the wrong ones not germane to the post, then I will have no idea if a link is up. I DID put the following words in the search engine BEFORE I posted: New Jersey, NJ, Washington, George Washington, Founding Fathers, each separately in the search engine and found nothing.

So, you better tell Jim Robinson that if he cares about his bandwidth, he should not allow posts without proper keywords and to update his search engine.

I suggest you go to those other posters and tell them to add proper key words so that I and others won't be in the same dilemma putting up the same article twice, thank you.

When I post, I really don't care about the size of the thread; however, you are right. The republican party is finished. This is just but one sad example. Last week one of our 5 temporary Governors, a republican, was ecstatic for signing a hate crimes bill.

Last night Bush did not seem to conservative. He never mentioned pro-life issues, gun issues, immigration issues, etc.

Replaced 'war' with 'conflict'? Are they going to teach about World Conflict I or II? The Civil Conflict? The U.S. Conflict Department? Indian Conflicters? Conflict crimes? Will the student talk about their favorite "Star Conflicts" characters? >>>

Never thought of that, I guess they will have to change the title to the movie. Isn't being PC revolting?

Some states like Virginia...also don't include the Pilgrims in their standards.

As I pointed out here, this statement if factually incorrect.

As I stated before, I visited the Berkeley plantation and talked with its present owner Mr. Jamison.

I know the first Thanksgiving was celebrated there.

But you are wrong about the facts that the pilgrims did leave England and the Netherlands because of religious freedom, you can't dispel that.

And you missed the point of the posting which had to do with the removal of the founding fathers, AKA "old white men" and political correctness in our schools by so-called republicans. The civil war ended a long time ago, most of us, as immigrant Europeans who came in the late 1880's-1920's, were not even here at the time, it's time to end the war.

But he did mention some statist and unconstitutional programs that he favors. I guess that's what conservatives have become?

The new poll numbers are out this morning and I'm guessing he could be elected King if he ran for it today. But hey, he ain't Clinton, and that's enough for most people on this site.
