The Pilgrims and the Mayflower also are excluded, as well as the word "war," which has been replaced with "conflict" in lessons about the early settlers, colonization and expansion.

Also gone are most references to the inhumane treatment many American soldiers endured in wars overseas during the 20th century. However, the standards specifically note that students should identify slavery, the Holocaust and modern Iraq as examples "in which people have behaved in cruel and inhumane ways."

Throughout history it is the victors that write history. It is the vanquished that have their history denied.

It is obvious from the above that we are losing the history battle unless we bypass the educational system. Unfortunately most "modern" parents shirk their responsibilities and allow the educational system to educate their children on the important matters. But what can we expect as each succeeding generation is "educated" (indoctrinated) by the current educational system. Socialist multiculturalism run amock

Time for conservatives to begin "guerilla education" and distribute comic books to the high schools that emphasize the history that is left out by the education commisars whose only interest is the mass production of willing socialist dupes. We must do this before it is too left and history is distorted and "revised" beyond recognition.

During Reconstruction in the South, the leadership of the KKK and the Democratic Party were nearly the same. When arrested, Klansmen used the standard cover story that they were actually a meeting of the local "Young Democrats Club." Remember, what you think you know is the product of what Democrat historians want you to know. For example, the movie "Birth of a Nation," which glorified the KKK, was based on a novel written by one of the college pals of Democrat Woodrow Wilson. The Emancipation Proclaation implemented a law which had just been passed, with all Republicans voting for it and all Democrats voting against. It's all there at www.republicanbasics.com.

This is no more than a Communist school in Russia or China. Thanks to the Clintons and Democrats this is what we get. This really all started in the 1960s under the Democrats and they have selectively put their people in place in the media and our educational facilities. Our history is no longer. In 20 years their will be only one heritage that is studied and it wont be of those who found this country.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin are not included in the revised version of the New Jersey Department of Education history standards

The more time goes by, I have to seriously wonder what is happening to this country. Why is the direct omission of the most important historical facts that deal with every aspect of our daily lives being left out of the most basic education? Things like the importance of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and their signifigance to our ideals as a nation are not subjects that can just be easily swept under the carpet without serious repercussions to our freedoms.

Also gone are most references to the inhumane treatment many American soldiers endured in wars overseas during the 20th century

And no doubt right along with it, all the battles they fought so hard and the reasons why. Even the simplest lessons on where we came from and what preceding generations struggled for are not taught. How can any nation not have an idea of where it is going without an idea of where it has been?

These arent minor issues. The tendency to overtly omit history and its importance, rather than a serious attempt at equity and balance, seem more like concessions to hateful minority pressure groups that seem to have an increasingly serious socio/political rift with the rest of the country.

As much as I dont like to say it, if the people that tax us for the education of our future generations refuse to listen to the voices of the taxed that are paying their salaries, sometimes I do tend to wonder every once in a while if it might be time for us to just pack up and start looking for the promised land again. This isnt representation, stuff like this has led to tyranny in every great nation that ever valued the welfare of its citizens.

Im sorry for my honesty, but this irks me a little.

It's really quite simple, the educational bureaucracy is not interested in "education". All they are about is indoctrination.

Oh, well then!! If it's at a website sponsored by the Republican party, it must be the inerrant word. The fact is that by 1868, Forrest disbanded the Klan for the exact reason that some of its members were becoming racist. The Klan that was started after that was during the lovely years of military rule that Yankees call Reconstruction

Some states like Virginia and Indiana also don't include the Pilgrims in their standards.

Virginia has reasons for not highlighting the pilgrims, it's because we were here first.

Jamestown 2007

America's First Official Thanksgiving - 1619

That's why Virginia doesn't emphasize the pilgirms, not some silly notion of political correctness.

We receive unsatisfactory eveluations, at least we do in NYC if we get caught. In NYC there are, as of now, no Social Studies Standards to speak of. The reson for this is that the educrats in the Board and the Union have not figured out a way to empty the subject of content.

All we are supposed to "teach" are some standardized writing skills that will reflect well when the kids take their Regents Exams. In the eighth grade I am supposed to spend my time giving writing projects, having the students spend class time rewriting these two or three times so that they may decorate my bulletin boards suitably linked to each writing standard which has been addressed.Content??? It doesn't exist, at least according to my superiors. Woe unto the teacher if his room does not meet standards, even if his students could argue the cases for Lincoln and Davis, even if they could identify the differences and similarities between open shores immigration of the 19th Century and today, and be able to conclude if a return to restrictions is needed or not. These skills and knowledge go unrewarded in NYC both for the students and the teacher.

because teachers will know they have to talk about the country's first president and the other Founding Fathers when the lesson on American history comes up.

However, when these current students become teachers, they WONT know to talk about the founding fathers, because nobody taught THEM about it.

"The new founding fathers are MLK Jr. and Malcolm X because they "founded" a nation of eqaulity. Just ask President Clinton. He speaks on this topic all the time."

Welcome to FR.com, Newbie...FYI, it is customary to follow statements like you mentioned above with "/sarcasm" unless you are serious so as to avoid the flames from folks who might mistakenly think you believe such Leftist bilge.

New Jersey's current history standards, which also exclude most historical figures,

How can you have history without historical figures? The Continental Army was led by a guy. Some other guy committed treason. Another guy said something about liberty or death before they hung him. The conflict lasted for a while. It was cold sometimes.

I've been through this before with a local teacher who decided to revise Civil War (whoops, the Slave Liberation Conflict) history. My daughter will learn. That's all there is to it.

Under certain circumstances, high tariffs may be essential to protect domestic industries under assault from foreign firms which are e.g. dumping. This does not make the Republican party the party of high tariffs.

Alter history to make it politcally correct and not offend. What BS. It is how we got here. Imagine what life now would be like if groups like the ACLU, NEA and NAACP existed back then.

You people HAVE to get serious about this stuff..it's plain and simple indocrination. Write your congessmen...send letters to your newspapers (although in NJ you don't have much of a chance of it being published), go to your school board meetings..what I'm trying to tell you is to fight this anyway you can. Posting on FR is good..but what is needed now is action..not venting.

Stuff like this is a pretty good indicator, at least to me of why private schools are a viable option to the public school system. Sure, your going to pay more, but it pays more dividends in terms of the educational value.

Nathan Bedford Forrest, who killed 32 U.S. soldiers, disbanded the Klan because it was becoming an insurgent group, which he opposed, not wanting to restart the Civil War. After that, the Klan was reborn in statewide organizations such as the White League and the Red Shirts, and the Democratic Party. The second KKK was not founded until 1915, after "Birth of a Nation." That Klan was disbanded in 1944. The third round of Klans sprang up in the 1970s.
