The Pilgrims and the Mayflower also are excluded, as well as the word "war," which has been replaced with "conflict" in lessons about the early settlers, colonization and expansion.
Also gone are most references to the inhumane treatment many American soldiers endured in wars overseas during the 20th century. However, the standards specifically note that students should identify slavery, the Holocaust and modern Iraq as examples "in which people have behaved in cruel and inhumane ways."

It is obvious from the above that we are losing the history battle unless we bypass the educational system. Unfortunately most "modern" parents shirk their responsibilities and allow the educational system to educate their children on the important matters. But what can we expect as each succeeding generation is "educated" (indoctrinated) by the current educational system. Socialist multiculturalism run amock
Time for conservatives to begin "guerilla education" and distribute comic books to the high schools that emphasize the history that is left out by the education commisars whose only interest is the mass production of willing socialist dupes. We must do this before it is too left and history is distorted and "revised" beyond recognition.
It's also time for "How America was realy formed month" in October and "Real Historical American Figures Month" In July.
The more time goes by, I have to seriously wonder what is happening to this country. Why is the direct omission of the most important historical facts that deal with every aspect of our daily lives being left out of the most basic education? Things like the importance of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and their signifigance to our ideals as a nation are not subjects that can just be easily swept under the carpet without serious repercussions to our freedoms.
Also gone are most references to the inhumane treatment many American soldiers endured in wars overseas during the 20th century
And no doubt right along with it, all the battles they fought so hard and the reasons why. Even the simplest lessons on where we came from and what preceding generations struggled for are not taught. How can any nation not have an idea of where it is going without an idea of where it has been?
These arent minor issues. The tendency to overtly omit history and its importance, rather than a serious attempt at equity and balance, seem more like concessions to hateful minority pressure groups that seem to have an increasingly serious socio/political rift with the rest of the country.
As much as I dont like to say it, if the people that tax us for the education of our future generations refuse to listen to the voices of the taxed that are paying their salaries, sometimes I do tend to wonder every once in a while if it might be time for us to just pack up and start looking for the promised land again. This isnt representation, stuff like this has led to tyranny in every great nation that ever valued the welfare of its citizens.
Im sorry for my honesty, but this irks me a little.
Oh, well then!! If it's at a website sponsored by the Republican party, it must be the inerrant word. The fact is that by 1868, Forrest disbanded the Klan for the exact reason that some of its members were becoming racist. The Klan that was started after that was during the lovely years of military rule that Yankees call Reconstruction
Virginia has reasons for not highlighting the pilgrims, it's because we were here first.
America's First Official Thanksgiving - 1619
That's why Virginia doesn't emphasize the pilgirms, not some silly notion of political correctness.

All we are supposed to "teach" are some standardized writing skills that will reflect well when the kids take their Regents Exams. In the eighth grade I am supposed to spend my time giving writing projects, having the students spend class time rewriting these two or three times so that they may decorate my bulletin boards suitably linked to each writing standard which has been addressed.Content??? It doesn't exist, at least according to my superiors. Woe unto the teacher if his room does not meet standards, even if his students could argue the cases for Lincoln and Davis, even if they could identify the differences and similarities between open shores immigration of the 19th Century and today, and be able to conclude if a return to restrictions is needed or not. These skills and knowledge go unrewarded in NYC both for the students and the teacher.
Welcome to Communist bootcamp 101. And you dont even get a uniform.
Welcome to FR.com, Newbie...FYI, it is customary to follow statements like you mentioned above with "/sarcasm" unless you are serious so as to avoid the flames from folks who might mistakenly think you believe such Leftist bilge.

How can you have history without historical figures? The Continental Army was led by a guy. Some other guy committed treason. Another guy said something about liberty or death before they hung him. The conflict lasted for a while. It was cold sometimes.
I've been through this before with a local teacher who decided to revise Civil War (whoops, the Slave Liberation Conflict) history. My daughter will learn. That's all there is to it.
Stuff like this is a pretty good indicator, at least to me of why private schools are a viable option to the public school system. Sure, your going to pay more, but it pays more dividends in terms of the educational value.
