Although I did search for this article, I just noticed that this was posted last week. I apologize, but I would still like to hear what others think of this book.

One of Buchanan's main theses is that the schools are polluting our children. Sadly, I've seen that it is true. Over and over I've had to correct my children when they come home spouting some nonsense. Year after year I have to send articles debunking subjects from Nuclear War to Global Warming. Is there any way out other than making our own way through private and home schooling?

Question for Pat:

What are you scared of? How is loosening of moral standards "De-westing" the west?

Buchanan reminds me of the salesman in The Music Man. He creates a horrific situation in peoples' minds and then offers himself as the saviour of the day.

Nearly Lost? Buchanan's an eternal optimist. They're already lost. Have been for about ten years now. Time to learn how to live with the new culture.

We can only save our country by having a CHRISTIAN SOLIDARITY! If Christians become a solid voting block as a group, no one will be able to control or manupilate this country!

How can we cultivate us agaist them mentality as others do? We need leadership who are Chritians, but not Jesus freeks! The fundamentalists type leadership can never get all the Christians together. We need a leadership that accept ANY Christian as equal. If he worship Mary, born again, handle snake, worship the Pope, wants to marry five wifes as the Morman teaches him,....ALL ARE BETTER THAN THE MOSLEMS! The Moslems are the enemies, and they multiply real fast! If they are left unchecked, they will convert some of us and have greater birthrate, and become majority soon. Look at what they did in Africa, and the Middle East, they concered, and forcibly converted thousands, and now, they dominate Africa.

I disagree totally. We are entering what some are beginning to call the "Post-PC Era," with people beginning to stand up and fight - successfully - against attacks on our culture. Note how the WTC firefighter statue hoo-ha is blowing up in the faces of the race-baiters; a couple of years ago they would have gotten away with it, with little more than meaningless grumbling on our side. But now it looks like our outrage is going to force them to back down and produce a statue that looks like the actual event.

I think Buchanan has a lot of interesting ideas and often makes you think, but his predictions rarely prove accurate.

Some people just go ballistic when Pat is right again. Just as he was right about illegal immigration, the recession, and foreign entanglements bringing war to our shores. By the way, Pat's thesis is the West has lost its will to live and is killing itself off by adopting the culture of death.

Even the GOP has caved (Book P 8 for those that lie without book citations )"By 2000, the adversary culture of the sixties had become our dominant culture, its victory conceded when the political base camp of traditionalism raised a white flag in Philadelphia. On the moral and social issues-the fight for the sanctity of human life and the return of God to the public square of this land we used to call "God's Country" - the Republican party raised its gloves and pleaded, "No mas. "

Buchanan is an optimist.

No, the fact that Pat is preaching his doom and gloom is scary. There's a lot of good in this country if you look for it. Pat's the typical washed up politican with ideas that never change who's crying Wolf, Wolf, Wolf. Then he thinks he can charge in on his white horse, run for office and save the day. He'll never be elected and he probably knows it. Sometimes I think it's the only way he and his sister can have incomes. The only good thing I'll credit him with is he destroyed the Reform Party.

For liberals, winning in the 60's meant losing for the next twenty years. For conservatives, winning in the 80's meant losing in the 90's. Winners get overconfident and demand too much. The "culture wars" are lost. The old armies break up. The memories of the old campaigns fade. But we may find some of the battles of that war nevertheless won, once we recognize that it's not Jerry Falwell's America of 1980 anymore. Total victory doesn't come in democratic politics. People want what they want and won't grant any party complete satisfaction. Patriotism comes back, morality and religion too. It just won't be in the exact form that one would have wished or hoped for or expected a generation ago. You lose to the soccer mom. Then she finds out you were right about some things (she'll never admit you were right about others). That's the way things go.

WHEN BUCHANAN TALKS, NOBODY LISTENS! lol

He has lost credibility since his Independent run. You might as well be quoting "BARNEY" the purple dinosaur.

I would submit that we need to pay attention more to our own children and our own responsibility to raise them correctly and less to debating public policy and looking to government to be the answer. The children will determine whether the country is saved or not.

Pat's central thesis, as I understand it, is that the United States came into being as the result of the efforts of a certain group of people that held a specific shared cultural background. The populations of the countries in that group are in decline, while the populations of the countries not in that group are increasing.

Pat believes that in order for the United States to survive as a nation, the majority of the citizens are going to have to have a certain viewpoint, and that the nations where the populations are on the increase do not provide their citizens with that viewpoint. Short of a massive program of education that will provide the large numbers of third-world citizens coming to the U.S. with that necessary viewpoint, the nation is doomed to die. The United States is a frame of mind, and that frame of mind is held by fewer and fewer citizens of this country.

Basically, Pat's preaching of the coming apostasy of the American point of view. To be an American, you have to think like an American.

Sounds eminently reasonable to me.

Buchanan's scare mongering completely ignores the fact that: (1) a new wave of minorities and immigrants have rescued this nation from financial and spiritual bankruptcy approximately every 40 years since its inception; (2) this nation is, and always has been, an amalgamation of different cultures and races, in order to become "one nation" (ever had Chinese food?); (3) what about the "death of the American Indian?"; and (4) Most immigrants do come here to become Americans, but are quickly reviled and rejected by many Americans, and made to feel unwelcome or unappreciated. This happened to the Irish, the Germans, the European Jews, the Italians, the Greeks, the Turks, the Chinese, the Indians, the French, the Mexicans, the South Americans, and just about everyone else.

Since my parents came over here on the Mayflower in 1637, (John & Dorothy of Ipswich, on "The Rose," April 8th, 1637) do I have the right to tell each and every person on this board, or Pat Buchanan, for that matter (whose family actually came here in the mid 1800s from Ireland and Scotland) to pack up and leave?

The fact of the matter is that every successive wave of immigrants has made me and my family, richer and more succesful, and has further entrenched us here in the USA.

If these immigrants didn't start coming since the 1600s, I have no doubt that this country would not be the international and domestic success story that it is today. No doubt whatsoever.

Amen.
