Circumventing Senate opposition,...Hmmmmm ...did AP EVER utilized this phrase in the Clinton recess appointments?
To: Howlin
Bush told Daschle on Inauguration Day, "Do not lie to me You're memory is flawless.
I wondered if the commend had to do with what the Democrats did to Bush Sr. They made a deal with him that if he "raised" taxes they would do something "....honorable" and they LIED to daddy, by not following through on their end of the bargain.
President Bush makes us PROUD!!!!!

You've been here long enough to have seen several stories on the use of recess appointments. Typically they are used for cases where a vacancie occurs late in a session or during the recess and because of the timing the Senate is not able to review and confirm or reject the appointment. In this case, the Senate had plenty of time to review the appointees but refused to do so out of partisan mean-spiritedness. (Borking the appointees would have been a bad idea because they were immensely qualified and the borking would have been flagrantly obvious partisan hate.) In response to the senate stonewalling, a recess appointment is very appropriate
You may recall x42 clinton used the recess appointment to install Bill Lann Lee to a civil rights position for several terms. The big difference between these two cases is that in the case of quota queen Lee, the Senate voted and REJECTED the appointment. clinton then used the recess appointment to install a rejected appointee in complete disregard for the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law. Naturally, the media gave him a complete pass on the issue.

I think he should do the same for EVERY nomminee that Daschle has BLOCKED !
ROTFL! Someone else suggested that the President should just go ahead, and appoint all the people to fill the vacant positions on another thread. (they were joking of course)Imagine that. How many is it? (170?) recess appointments. Could you just imagine!? ROTFL&L!

"Circumventing Senate opposition"How can it be labeled "Circumventing" when both of these nominee's would have been approved, but the RATS would not schedule the hearings.
Kudos to President Bush

"Why must I hold myself the higher standard I argued existed when Clinton made an end-run around the constitution?" Puh-leeeeeze! Are you really dense enough to equate this to what clinton did? When Bush uses a recess appointment to install someone that the Senate has already rejected then you can try using this argument. The democrat leadership in the senate refused to allow a vote on numerous GWB appointments during this session. The recess appointment was the appropriate response.

and, if so, should please post a thread of its own .
