Thanks - they are a bit exercised over there aren't they!

Exactly! And now the RATS will be all over whining! Bring up Lee and they ignore it!
There is a such a double standard at work in the press that it is hard to fathom! Ethics certainly was not part of the curriculum of some of the national reporters!

Promises kept means we conservatives will work our hearts out for this guy in 2004! :) A few weeks ago I said this was a litmus test for this Prez's relationship with us and we wanted him to prove he was different from his father. Well President Bush passed it with flying colors. Color me happy! I know now he's going to win a second term for sure. And congratulations to Otto Reich and Eugene Scalia on getting their well deserved positions in this Administration! :)

I wish you wouldn't go over there; you might catch something; like ignorance!

Thanks for that clarification. By using the "Acting" provision, clinton managed to use an even sleazier method than I thought for circumventing the Constitution.

I'm sure you're correct. It's just that I can't remember Slick making a recess appointment to the Judiciary. Maybe I'm wrong.

It's a provision in the US constitution under presidential powers. Since advice and consent is supposed to be a two-way street, the founders foresaw times when the legislative and executive would disagree. They gave the major power to the president when they added the recess appointment provision.

Do a little digging, get your facts straight, and you'll find Clinton's actions were quite different in both reasons and substance of action from President Bush's necessary stepping-in for the negligent behavior of the Daschle-hobbled Senate.

FILE--Otto Reich, head of the State Department's Office for Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean, is shown in this 1985 file photo. The Senate went on its holiday break without taking up President Bush's choice of Reich to be assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs and Bush said Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, he was considering making a recess appointment to install Reich before Congress returns on Jan. 23, 2002. FILE--Eugene Scalia, son of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, appears before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Capitol Hill in this Sept. 2, 2001 file photo. President Bush should bypass the Democrat-controlled Senate and seat two controversial appointees without senators' endorsement, a Republican senator said Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001. This is great. About a week ago, the NYT ran an editorial criticizing the Democrats about their tactics in this stuff. They don't approve (of course) of Scalia and Reich but they really didn't approve of Daschle and Dodd. Said they were totally out of line with these low-ball tactics. So, W's even got cover on the left for this one. Hee hee. Go W!

This makes my day! I watched the Scalia Senate hearing on C-SPAN and it was the worst example of American politics I have ever seen. Democrats b!tching about his stand on ergonomics even though legislation to enforce (and reinforce) the democrat position lost in the Senate by a wide margin.

Those folks got the cob way up there!
Funny reading, thanks for the link!

This isn't exactly correct. If the Senate really opposed these nominations they would have voted to reject them. The headline should actually read: "Circumventing a dormant Senate mired in self-imposed gridlock . . ."
Well said. :)
