Poll: IF, and this is a BIG if...

Posted on 12/21/2001 6:52:48 PM PST by LSUsoph

Dick Cheney due to health reasons decides to withdrawl his name from the ticket in 2004 after a very successful term as Vice President. He figures he can still stay close to the President and advise him in any way possible, but not have to deal with the every day hustle of being the Vice-President of the country. So who would President Bush pick to be his new VP? I think Condi Rice would be a wonderful choice but I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South (Alabama). I also love Powell but would he and Pres Bush be able to work hand in hand as P-VP? Donald Rumsfeld is a terrific Sec of Defense and I think he would make a great President one day...maybe him being VP could lead us to 8 great years of a Rumsfeld Presidency after 8 great years of Bush. Other candidates that come to mind would be Tom Ridge, Liddy Dole, Ashcroft, and dare i say it...JOHN MCCAIN ( i know, i know, but i think the Bush-MCcain ticket would be a shoe in). My pick would have to be Rice, she is worth her weight in Gold. She is a genius, works well with Bush, and would really be great for the country. And what would the naysayers say after Bush nominates a black woman to be his right hand WOMman?? I think they would just have to throw up the white flag! GO DUBYA!

I sincerely wish I could agree with you, but like Martin Luther and the Catholic Church of the 16th century, there is just NO LOVE left between some of us third-party quixotics and the GOP.

I wish, I really do, I SO WISH the Repubs would get it right, but the folks who wield the power in the party seem impervious to any change other than a movement leftward. I mean no real personal disparagement but honestly, Trent Lott appears to be the most effete, helpless and useless "leader" I've ever seen. Maybe others know something about the man, but I would burst into some serious weeping if THAT very typical Republican was to lead ME into battle!

Would to God we had a Rush Limbaugh, an Alan Keyes, a Michael Medved, a Hugh Hewitt running for elective offices. Invariably, it seems the "sergeants" out in the field do their job getting the troops fired up and ready, but I look in vain to see a Republican leader (in office) with half the masculinity and purpose of these talk show hosts and commentators!

Ok, I take it back, Rummy and Cheney rock, 'tis true. But who else??

Well maybe next time we should hold our candidates to a higher standard by insisting that they choose a SIDE and quit running up the middle of the road...

On the other hand, splitting the Democrats in two is good. Nader may run for Prez again in '04.

Hey, I've got principles too !!!

Absolutely! So many REAL men, so little time! :-)

I'll have to confess, though, that the BEST man has been my dear husband of 34 years. I married him because of his rock-solid ethics, and he hasn't disappointed me after all these years.

That's because, as I said, the choice ISN'T between someone who only talks about abortion, leaving the world to go to hell in a handbasket and someone who is otherwise a cosmopolitan, geo-political whiz. There ARE conservatives who are both pro-life AND superb statesman.

My beef is that these types seldom get support. As a recent case in point, see Brett Schundler. He is capable, highly intelligent, articulate and staunchly pro-life.

Also, you and I differ on theological grounds. In my understanding of Scripture, it doesn't matter if you have a Ronald Reagan leader with the intelligence and acumen of Kissinger, if he supports chopping up humans in their mother's wombs, GOD WILL BRING THAT ONE DOWN. Some of us see not just threats without, but within.

Who ever he picks had better be great, because they will have to beat a Clinton/Daschle ticket. And that will be hard to do, considering Hitlery's popularity. (Oh God, I think I am going to be sick.)

It is quite impossible to reach people who are out of touch with reality. Look around at the arguments being offered by these people. They offer no facts, no logic, no tangible debate points. All you see is emotional statements. Emotional statements and personal attacks.

Hey PEE-CEE, reading your own posts again, huh???

Best choice for '04 VP if Cheney were to abdicate: John Kasich. Pro-life, great on everything else, and a great public speaker. More HERE

While certainly I would support a pro-life candidate.. I view the "except in cases of rape and incest" line to be a COMPROMISE.. if we are standing on the principle that "a baby is a baby is a baby" then killing the baby because he/she was concieved in a tragic scenario makes no sense and causes more problems than it solves..

Isn't it funny how moral arguments have become diminished to the point of being termed "emotional"? And here I thought I was being so cold and rational when I observe the command, "You shall not murder".
Call me emotional then!

LOL
