06:57 PST WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush has invoked executive privilege for the first time to keep Congress from seeing documents of prosecutors' decision-making in cases ranging from decades-old Boston murders to the Clinton-era fund-raising probe, The Associated Press has learned.

Here is the reason I believe Bush is doing this for the right reason and not to misuse it.

Aware the White House was considering such a new policy, members of Congress have raised concerns that it will hinder lawmakers from giving proper oversight to federal prosecutions, noting scandals in the past would never have been exposed if Congress had been kept from sensitive documents.

If members of Congress don't like it, that tell's you something. If having access to these documents allowed exposure of scandals by Congress, why do scandals have to be exposed by everyone else but Congress? And why when Congress has full access to these scandals, do they go stick their head in the sand ??????

I have a feeling the words "giving proper oversight" means deciding what they want to keep buried to cover their own asses!

Larry already had someone at the DOJ tell him that Dubbya would thwart his efforts.

Frankly, I think the Pres. is kicking himself by doing this.
Covering up the FBI's and Reno's mistakes is not the proper way to go,
and will have serious repercussions in the future, like when the world finds out who did FL800.

So much criminal malfeasance has occurred over the last eight years, that coupled with the criminal activites prior to it, that accurate attacking of the crimes and problems are currently impossible. the Congress and the various agencies have been staffed with Democratic-fanatics that would do anything to further their cause.

Bush realizes that some action must occur and occur NOW to correct many wrongs, and to (like Regan did in the early 1980's) to bring back American Pride, Civility, and Honor. It is a tough job. But it can be done.

But accomplishing this task requires a realistic apprasial of who your allies are and who are you enemies. he has, I am sure, Correctly identified whom he can trust and whom he cannot. I don't think that he want's retribution for past crimes (as many democrats fear), but rather to totally clean up the system.

Look at how he is doing it.

Is there any public proclamations of this? No. It is all being done strategically and tactically. He had constructed a plan and is now working the plan. Don't be so fearful fellow freepers...

Hmmm... I'm not sure what all would be meant by "prosecutorial decision-making documents", but it sounds like transcripts and minutes from meetings with legal counsel. So, then to be fair: does congress release information of this kind when THEY are getting confidential counsel? Methinks not.

Thank you! This seems more in keeping with this administration's policies and character than the supposition that President Bush is purposefully covering up Clinton's crimes. It would be terrible for people like Waxman or Conyers to have access to that information. They would do their best to assure that Clinton would never go to trial. I agree with you that this will stop the liberal media from spinning the case out of control.

Two Possibilities There may be those in congress that may be the suspects or in bed with the suspects. Remember earlier leaks??? Just after 9-11. That leak may be excuse no person can overcome. PLUS on T V last week Clinton's first CIA director Woolsey stated flatly that we had access to Osama's cell phone calls THEN that was leaked and the PRESS went with it???? Not a big story then BUT what if no leak???????????????????????

One may agree or disagree with Bush's decision, but there is a qualitative difference between invoking executive privilege in a case where the President has been accused of malfeasance, and invoking it in cases not involving the President personally. The attempt to equate this with the actions of Nixon or Clinton is a smear.
