Who cares? These people don't do anything but raise hell and then write reports about it.

They have no power and are simply an extension of the Democrat Party.

This farce is one ring of a three-ring circus.

How about the White House and Justice Department declaring that the commission is functioning illegally and refuse to recognize or enforce any of its pronouncements until the new member is seated.

I mean, it's not like the Civil Rights Commission has its own enforcement arm. Without the Justice Department doing its heavy lifting, it's toothless and powerless.

Cruz Reynoso! Boy, that's a name I haven't heard in years!

In 1986, Reynoso, Grodin and Rose Bird were voted off the California Supreme Court by an angry electorate. Grodin and Reynoso were dumped by a 2-1 margin, and Bird by 3-1.

Ahhh... one of those rare moments of clarity in California electoral politics. Tired of having our will pushed aside by an anti-death penalty court, we cleaned house on them. That was glorious... truly glorious.

Hey she is granted her commission fair and square as Queen of the Zulus and that is a lifetime appointment. Ha! Please don't tell me only one person out of millions in this country is eligible to be appointed to this fill the seats on the commission. Amend the law to state that one 6 year term is all one gets. End of story.

I have heard that it is Alfred A. Knopf that is publishing x42's book. The incestuous relationships among the Dems continue to appall me.

Nope, not humiliation. He is well aware of what is going on, and I think is to be commended for taking the position and sitting quietly while the Republicans tried to get Berry to see reason. All was recorded as proof of her malfeasance.

Berry was just dying for a big confrontation...she probably had reporters and cameras at the ready. Not much drama in what transpired, though. You KNOW she was wanting a big scene, because she told Al Gonzalez he would have to send federal marshals. That is what she wanted.

Instead, the Administration will move as quickly as possible using the law and the courts. She will not see it coming until its too late. Heheheh.

Why didn't the other three 'pubs walk out and refuse to participate in any votes/meetings with the ex-member still in the chamber?

the liberal wing of the dems is looking to manufacture an issue, create a scene

You nailed it !

They're thinking, "Let's create enough of a controversy here that they'll back down and we'll come out smelling like the victims. While they're fighting the war, we'll muscle in on more territory."

Democratic Reps. John Conyers of Michigan and Jerrold Nadler of New York wrote Berry on Thursday to say the law as amended in 1994 reflects her interpretation.

Then I guess that settles it.. That kinda sucks. I assumed it was the judiciary that interpreted the law.. Oh well, thanks for clarifying, Reps. Conyers & Nadler. </sarcasm

That was glorious... truly glorious.

It is also the story of how Gov. George Deukmejian, the California Republican Party and a team of very savvy political consultants took four very unruly PAC's, got them to merge and work together from one play book, and then manipulated the Los Angeles Times and the state's liberal establishment into making a series of egregious mistakes.

Someone ought to write a book.

January '04, Bush's last year in office.

May I correct you? I believe that is Bush's last year of his first term and he still will have 4 more years in office. :)

Grodin and Reynoso were dumped by a 2-1 margin, and Bird by 3-1.

I enjoyed being part of that effort.

W will handle this correctly and I predict the results will be quite satisfying.

Geez, I hope you're right, and I hope you know something. A person close to the Commission is a friend of mine, and I just sent off an e-mail, asking what help my friend expects from the administration. If I find out anything I'm free to pass along, I will. (That's not likely, by the way; I'm likely to be asked to keep mum.)

You raise a good point. I wonder if they need 4 or 5 members for a quorum. If 4, the 3 GOPers plus the new person could hold meetings without Berry. If 5 are needed, there is no quorum IF the 3 GOPer's walk out, since there are only 4 "legitimate" members left.

It's a moot point - Clinton's appointment specifically stated, in writing, that the term would expire on 11/29/01

But "Berry argued the documents are wrong and are trumped by federal law, which says new commissioners will fill a six-year term... AND Democratic Reps. John Conyers of Michigan and Jerrold Nadler of New York wrote Berry on Thursday to say the law as amended in 1994 reflects her interpretation".

I will try to get a copy of the amended law before I make my calls demanding BERRY also be removed. Thanks for the links JeanS.
