On tonight's Special Report with Brit Hume, (hosted by Jim Angle this evening), at the close of the show when they normally have some funny video clip, they showed President Bush and the First Lady on their way to Marine One to leave for Camp David for the weekend. Jim said "You will see the president notice something unusual on his way to Marine One".
As the video starts, the First Lady is leading the way into the helicopter with the spaniel dog on the leash, and the president is right behind her with the Scotty on the leash.
As the First Lady entered the chopper, the Marine at the gangway saluted and held his salute. The scottie the president was walking decided it wanted to squat right when he got to steps. The president pulled on its' leash, but the stubborn scottie persisted in squatting. The president bent down and scooped up the pooch and entered Marine One. After he entered the Marine cut his salute and returned to the position of attention.
Moments later the president reemerged from the helicopter and out onto the steps. The Marine was standing at attention, head and eyes straight ahead. The president leaned over and tapped him on the left arm. The startled Marine turned his body toward the president and received his returned salute!
I was so impressed by this true act of respect for our military people by our president! He really does get it. Most any other person of his staure would have just continued his journey, disregarding the neglected return salute. Not George W. Bush. He is earning the respect of the military community, not expecting it - as most would.
Those of us who watch and wait take heart, processing all these events.
May our eyes and hearts be focused upon Him and our prayers reach His ears as a sweet sound!
Thanks, Phil...
Episodes like this always remind me of the famous disgusting photo of the Clintonistas walking off the golf course to get onto the President's helicopter and the Marine standing there essentially saluting a golf bag. (Think any of those Clinton clowns would ever return a salute, lol?)
Things have definitely changed for the (far) better.

What a difference a year makes!
Yes, what a difference a year makes! Last year the weekend before Thanksgiving, I was up and at 'em against Gorons and their election heist attempt! I saw a post on FR about rally's all over the country, and got the scoop on the rally in Jacksonville on Saturday Nov 18th. A week before was My first FReep at the Veterans' Day parade in downtown Jacksonville. It was envigorating on Veterans Day so I knew I had to make the upcoming rally!
As I arrived at the designated site, the FREEDOM FOUNTAIN at Friendship Park, across the beautiful St John's river from the Jacksonville Landing, I was alone except for my 70 year old neighbor, who arrived shortly after me. I asked people when they arrived if they knew the organizer, and no one seemed to know who he was or better yet, WHERE he was!
So, I relied on my Marine Corps training and TOOK CHARGE! Soon we had about 40 patriots there armed with Bush/Cheney signs, American flags and poster board signs calling Gore a theif! We assembled and marched to and fro as the TV cameras taped it all. A still photographer kept snapping pictures as we marched along chanting "Stop the recount - Gore is a thief!" He asked my name when we finished and I thought nothing of it, as they had done the same thing a week before and nothing was in the paper.
The next morning, I went out to get newspaper from the driveway and as I tossed it on the patio table I could not beleive my eyes - there on the front page, above the fold was this HUGE picture of our rally / protest demonstration!
I was astounded! Then I found the same picture in the on-line version of the Florda Times-Union and asked another FReeper for help to get it posted. Before long, FReeper Fred Mertz FReep mailed me and said that same picture was on his newspaper in Fort Knox, Kentucky! I would later find out the picture was published all over the country!
I am really pleased that the country stood it's ground and now George W. Bush is the Commander-In-Chief!! (I can't even envision Al Gore leading the country after the attacks - we would all be speaking Arabic by now!!)
So, a year later, after our country was attacked by some really dumb terrorists, we are in much better shape as a nation united and 100% behind our president and our military - Let's roll!!

We did the same thing in Houston in a freezing rain.
It was a bad hair day for me so I wouldn't let 'em take my picture.

Thank you again for the picture and the post Norb.
Y'know, he is a SOCIALIST. But he's a good guy. Seriously.. . .about President Bush, then what the he** do you expect?
And then your response:
You idiots crack me up. I woke up this morning wondering what country I was in.Huh? Funny, when you responded to this article saying Bush is a Socialist, my first thought was
No, doubt you wonder what country you are in. . .
Sorry for my delay in replying, but my AT&T Broadband service was interrupted due to the Excite@home bankruptcy. I'm doing all this from my work computer today. . .
In BKO's book, "THE FINAL DAYS", chapter three, "A vietman memorial", page 29, paragraph two and three...
" 'Clinton's military salute [was hard] to fix,' recalled George Stephanopolous. 'Sheepish at first, he seemed to be working out his internal conflicts every time he tentantively raised his hand. The tops of his finger would furtively touch his slightly bowed head, as if he were being caught at something he wasn't supposed to do.' (bibliographical note; Stephanopolous, All Too Human)
Some even noticed that when Clinton was president, marine guards failed to execute a right face to stand facing his back as he walked away. The marines somehow relearned this maneuver on January 20, 2001, when the new commander-in-chief, President George W. Bush, took office."
This President has class and respect from our soldiers and it's great to see!

...and if it isn't mutual, it isn't respectful.
I believe Dubya's ratings are high partly because he is scandal free, it's not just about the war. You'll never hear this revelation on the alphabet networks.
