On tonight's Special Report with Brit Hume, (hosted by Jim Angle this evening), at the close of the show when they normally have some funny video clip, they showed President Bush and the First Lady on their way to Marine One to leave for Camp David for the weekend. Jim said "You will see the president notice something unusual on his way to Marine One".
As the video starts, the First Lady is leading the way into the helicopter with the spaniel dog on the leash, and the president is right behind her with the Scotty on the leash.
As the First Lady entered the chopper, the Marine at the gangway saluted and held his salute. The scottie the president was walking decided it wanted to squat right when he got to steps. The president pulled on its' leash, but the stubborn scottie persisted in squatting. The president bent down and scooped up the pooch and entered Marine One. After he entered the Marine cut his salute and returned to the position of attention.
Moments later the president reemerged from the helicopter and out onto the steps. The Marine was standing at attention, head and eyes straight ahead. The president leaned over and tapped him on the left arm. The startled Marine turned his body toward the president and received his returned salute!
I was so impressed by this true act of respect for our military people by our president! He really does get it. Most any other person of his staure would have just continued his journey, disregarding the neglected return salute. Not George W. Bush. He is earning the respect of the military community, not expecting it - as most would.
Semper Fi!
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
Note: my son, Kevin, called last week from his home in West Palm Beach, saying he had taken Susan and their boys to a Christian Concert in the area, and how great it was.
Related Michael Smith was one of the performers, and he testified GWB had invited him to have lunch at the While House with him.
Said during the TWO HOURS he was there, GWB talked nonstop about Jesus Christ and God...
As you and I know, he reads (and comprehends!) the Bible and has Bible study and prayer routinely with a group in the WH, despite the naysayers who think it is for show like his predecessors.
How blessed we are to have a leader like this - at a time like this!!....
No Gore...No More!!
Thank You, Lord...
And thank-you! for the 'ping'....!!
What a difference a year makes!
Oh! So glad to hear your son's report from Michael Smith!
Yes, I would expect what he reports to be exactly right and true! How much we must be sure that we continue to pray for President Bush and America! Isn't God gracious? No matter how much God's enemies spew fumes and fury, He is in control! There's a verse in our church choir's Christmas music that says, quoting from scripture, "Why do the nations imagine vain and foolish things?" ......... I think about those nations around the world led by people who daily work against God. It is indeed a blessing today to be able to have a leader who is seeking God's help daily and who knows Jesus Christ and is in a relationship with his Living Lord walking daily with Him!
Pray that God will give our President more strength to meet every challenge - and wisdom - and, especially, discernment - to be able to know and effectively deal with those still in our government's bureaucracies who are working at this minute to undermine our war on terror and to bring destruction to President Bush and to our country! And, yes, for protection of President and Mrs. Bush, VP Cheney and Mrs. Cheney, and all those on his team - ESPECIALLY OUR MILITARY! WHEW! A lot of praying to do! But that's ok - our President - and our military - and our nation are worth it! Thank God!
AYE AYE, SIR !
GUNG HO, SIR !
SEMPER FI, SIR !
If that sounds absurd, then you know what you sound like.
This will not do! As I lace up my shoe, And sip first cup of brew, I call ACLU!!!!!!
The sweet aroma of liberty in Afghanistan, Rain and snow in California, Zinni in Israel, Sharon in Washington . . . Surely God might be saying, "It's about time?!"
