=====================================
BRADY E-ACTION RESPONSE NETWORK ALERT
=====================================

Issue: 17 - 11/8/2001

November 8, 2001

Dear Friends,

Regretfully, I must report to you that in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on America, we have been forced to make significant cut backs in our programs, threatening our ability to fight for a safer America.

As I'm sure you know, fundraising for just about every non-profit organization in the country has been seriously crippled as donors nationwide have mourned the loss of more than 6,000 precious lives and have rightly focused on helping the victims of the tragedy.

The Brady Campaign and Brady Center have not been exempt from this sharp downturn in contributions from the public. Consequently, our ability to meet the challenges before us has been severely curtailed. We desperately need your help now more than ever. Fortunately for us and for America, your gift can be worth 50 percent more, if given within the next 30 days.

A generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has issued a challenge to our members and supporters. For every dollar contributed, up to $200,000 in the next 30 days, a 50 percent match will be made. For example, a gift of $50 will be worth $75 with our donor's gift. Through this matching gift, your donation is worth more than ever. Please help us take advantage of this opportunity at this critical time when so much is at stake for our country.

Go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate today and make your gift worth even more!

There is compelling evidence that terrorists are stockpiling high-powered weapons and ammunition obtained from unregulated gun markets in this country, such as gun shows. These weapons can be used against Americans here at home, smuggled abroad and resold at a profit to buy materials for mass destruction.

In fact, the day before terrorist pilots were committing suicide by crashing jetliners into American buildings, Ali Boumelhem was being convicted in a Detroit courtroom of conspiring to illegally ship shotguns, assault weapons, ammunition and other items bought at Michigan gun shows to Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.

This is why the Brady Campaign is aggressively pushing for new legislation to add three gun safety measures to anti-terrorist efforts being undertaken by Congress and the Justice Department.

Gun Safety Measure #1: Comprehensive criminal background checks for absolutely all gun purchases, whether they are made at licensed gun dealers, gun shows, flea markets or through classified ads.

Gun Safety Measure #2: Permanent retention of all firearm sales records to ensure that law-enforcement officials can track terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.

Gun Safety Measure #3: Increase identity verification by requiring two forms of valid I.D. and proof of residency.

This is our immediate agenda, and I must tell you that that our financial shortfall is seriously jeopardizing our ability to meet this challenge. In fact, as a part of our forced downsizing and restructuring, we have been forced to lay off approximately 20 percent of our staff.

Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association, with its deep pockets, continues to try to exploit the September terrorist attacks as a reason to buy more guns. But, we cannot let the gun lobby win the day.

Please go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate now and give the most generous contribution you possibly can.

We cannot let the terrorists intimidate us, nor let the NRA and the gun industry win. We must move forward. And to do that, we are dependent upon you and all of our members and supporters. Thank you for your helping during these difficult times.

Warm Regards,

Sarah Brady
Chair

Funny how Sarah wants to take our guns away, while terrorists are buying 'em to use against us. FOAD, Sarah.

While it might be loads o' fun to go down there and tweak Sarah and the rest of those whiners, I suggest that Maryland and Virginia gun owners just ignore them. The Mini-moms are a dying organization. Sarah issues these fatwahs of hers and no one cares anymore. The Dems are starting to realize that gun control is achieving "third rail" status in American politics. For the media, this makes the Mini-moms a non-starter... That is unless our side goes down there and makes the story interesting again. Think twice about a counter-protest. Is it worth it if it brings out the media? Or would it not be better to let the Mini-moms sink into obscurity?

When did that happen? There were the only ones here in GA willing to fight against the NRA sponsored background check. The NRA has been pushing trigger lock bills here in GA. The NRA's slime in chief at the state level, Randy Kozuch put the word out two years ago that they wouldn't oppose the anti-gunners mandatory trigger lock bills if schools were allowed (allowed not compelled) to use their irrelevant Eddie Eagle program. Well the schools can use it now if they want. Anyway, the progun legislators found out about it and made such a public stink that the NRA had to back off and denied the whole thing happened.

I understand that there was a big shuffle in the GOA leadership in the last year, with Dennis Fusaro being fired for being too agressively pro-gun (ie he was taking on the NRA on some of their anti-gun legislation) so I guess what you say is likely - sad.

I guess I better go read my mail more carefully. I don't remember getting anything from the NRA that said, "In light of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, you better go buy more guns right now." To the best of my knowledge, people (including me) took it upon themselves to go do it. It's obvious that Sarah Brady assumes that people only act if a group they're affiliated with tells them to go do something. The Sarah Brady followers probably are like that but that doesn't mean everybody is.

I bought a Glock 9mm and it had nothing to do with the NRA although I now do consider joining.

Consider clicking here! ;^)

Good idea, we don't need to generate any publicity for the MMM idiots. The news will report that the big bad gun owners are picking on the poor little MMM/HCI groups. It's better to just leave them alone and let their group shrivel down to nothing.

The (conservative) one I work for had to lay off a bunch of people. It wasn't the terrorist stuff, though, it's just that the economy sucks and we are not particularly high-profile.

Gun Safety Measure #1: Point the weapon only at someone that threatens physical harm to you.

Gun Safety Measure #2: Take careful aim and smoothly squeeze the trigger. Don't jerk the weapon.

Gun Safety Measure #3: Repeat step two, until the attacker stops twitching.

Fusaro was the problem in Michigan.

As for the NRA, chances are the problems you have with them don't come from Fairfax, but your state director. We have Todd Adkins in Michigan, and no such problem here.

As for GOA, they fought the bill openly, said it 'wasn't good enough', lied when they said it wasn't shall issue, called two reps who are longtime friends gun grabbers, and lied when they said they were working on the bill with then senator David Jaye. I know who his staffer was then. He never talked to them.

They also complained about shall issue being registration, but that's irrelavent since all pistols in Michigan are already registered. Personally I think GOA was whining since they are not in the loop in Michigan.

If these dim bulbs want a safer America and they had two brain cells to rub together, they would understand that criminals DO NOT OBEY GUN LAWS in addition to property laws, murder laws, etc and so on...

Ah Sister Sarah, have you seen what these terrorists are using in the newscasts? AK-47s, RPGs and yes, stinger missles, GIVEN to them by other governments! Even your very own USofA. Not purchased but donated.

Why don't you lobby Congress and the Presidency to cease from these senseless and taxpayer subsidized acts of governmental insanity.

You can sell this crap to Soros and McKelvey but not the rest of us.

PS: Please tell me Sarah of the gun show where I can find these products so easily? Christmas is just around the corner ya know.

Think of it this way:
Would they simply ignore their enemies until they ceased to be a newsworthy factor?

Not on your life!
It is not only satisfying, it is mandatory that this trash be assertively kicked when down.
Otherwise, like the other terrorists the US is facing today, they will only rise up again when they feel the coast is clear.

They have never shown the least tendancy to become lenient in victory - don't expect them to be any more tolerant or rational the next time.

Good pt about the hunters and sportsman who think they arent
effected...in fact the .50 ban includes several cartridges
inclluding the BMG. That would be all the straight wall
.50s most commonly used by sportsmen (target shooting) and
hunters who prefer a large bore rifle.

So, the existing laws have obviously worked if this guy has been convicted. But we need more laws......

Makes sense to me...........fools exploiting the loss of 6000 folks to further their propoganda.

unregulated gun markets

Unregulated? These people must be living in some other country or maybe on another planet. The last time I looked, guns were the single MOST regulated items of commerce in the US. How many other manufactured products must have a complete paper trail from date of final manufacture right on up through the distribution chain to the 'end-user'? On top of that, the BATF manual of Firearm Regulations now comprises 350 pages and is growing every year. On top of that, EVERY state has its own rules and regulations and many do keep a permanent record of pistol and revolver buyers (like the great state of Californication). Indeed, all states have in place some sort of regulated transfer process that covers even private sales. Unregulated my butt. The regulation that these Enemies of Freedom want is the total ban on private ownership of arms, contrary to the Constitution and every 'law' of human survival ever written. The Brady Boob is either a moron or a paid stooge for the enemies of the Republic.

I believe the word for was accidently inserted as a typo.

A generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has issued a challenge to our members and supporters. For every dollar contributed, up to $200,000 in the next 30 days, a 50 percent match will be made.

Lessee, who would have the most to gain by having Americans disarmed and helpless before terrorist assaults in the years to come?

Who would also be wealthy enough to contribute in this major way to MMM?

And who would find it absolutely essential to keep their identity secret since their reputation is not the best these days...?

How about some protest signs with the evil one's picture indicating that he must be the anonymous donor?

An equivalent sum directed towards JPFO or Gun Owners of America would be OK, too. I like all three ;-)
