Known as the U.S.A. Patriot Act, the law empowers the government to shift the primary mission of the FBI from solving crimes to gathering domestic intelligence. In addition, the Treasury Department has been charged with building a financial intelligence-gathering system whose data can be accessed by the CIA
Most significantly, the CIA will have the authority for the first time to influence FBI surveillance operations inside the United States and to obtain evidence gathered by federal grand juries and criminal wiretaps.

The original article was entitled "An Intelligence Giant in the Making" with subtitle "Anti-Terrorism Law Likely to Bring Domestic Apparatus of Unprecedented Scope".
Due to the legal situation between the FreeRepublic and the Washington Post, only an excerpt of the article is posted here. The complete article can be found on Drudge or at the Washington Post web site.

The CIA should not become involved in domestic law enforcement involving US citizens by having access to grand jury info and wiretaps on US citizens. There is tremendous potential for political abuse in this. This is another sign of a growing police state. These provisons will probably never be recinded once the war on terrorism is over.
Are these new tools for an AntiChrist to run his world government and subjugate the American people?

Are these new tools for an AntiChrist to run his world government and subjugate the American people? Now there is a credibility building argument.

Funny, there was an article posted maybe an hour ago entitled 'You Worry Me'. It was from some mid-western woman to the general Muslim population in America. Many posters were gleefully agreeing.
I have got to say though that there is something ominous that worries me much more than Muslim families in our presence. It's this dark cloud of authoritarian presence that is descending upon us at an unprecedented velocity. This worries me. I hope that once the chill of 'terrorist' attack thaws on this land, we don't find that another critical battle has been lost while we were wincing.

You may not desire to read my question about the AntiChrist, but the article I posted is completely credible.
It is a credible fact that many responsible US citizens do not find all the provisions of the new law to be wise regardless of whether or not you agree with their views or mine.
I have many Texas friends asscociated with the Baylor and Dallas seminaries who share my concerns about the AntiChrist and some of the provisions in the new bill. They like me are conservative Republicans and Christians and they have high credibility in their communities. They like me do not agree with everything Bush says and does.

It might stand to reason that a reference to an AntiChrist would represent an unknown. I do not believe in an AntiChrist per say, but I do believe that your comment does apply to this unknown entity. By the way things are looking, either way it's pretty scary.
I hope that those who are indulging in this orgy of blind patriotism don't get tricked into an unquestioning trust bond with the government. The point is, you may not be in bed with who you thought (take it from me, I learned this trick in college ;))

Interesting link, my Friend, but to say that the CIA knew Terrorist Attacks would be inevitable and to say our Federal Guv'ment knew that Osama bin Laden's errand-boys would be hijacking four planes and flying them into the WTC, the Pentagon, and some other unknown target on 9/11/01 are two entirely different things, IMHO.
As for the desire of the CIA to get themselves unprecedented Powers to overrun our Civil Liberties, I share your concern and look to assist any efforts to overturn this UNCONSTITUTIONAL legislation.

The PATRIOT ACT???
Talk about adding insult to injury...
The name alone is a slap in the face.
Although it looks as though a lot of people, who should know better, are falling for it.

The PATRIOT ACT??? It does remind me of George Orwell's
Ministry of Truth (The propaganda department)
in the book 1984.

Exactly my thought when I read this.
I find it disgusting that they are so blatant about it.
And that nobody (other than places like FR) will call them on it.

`(5) the term `domestic terrorism' means activities that-- `(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
`(B) appear to be intended--
`(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
`(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
_______________________________________________________
This is a broad definition of domestic terrorism. If a politician "feels" intmidated by a group that is exposing corruption, then that group can be labeled as domestic terrorists. What happens if the information on FR intimidates a politician?

What we need is someone new heading up this agency, like, RUDY!

Several years back a poster screennamed NDCORUP was in the habit of calling the CIA "Maggots". Got a lot of folks upset that he would attack a patriotic group like that. He was especially harsh about the Mena/CIA ties.
The only one who expressed agreement with him on the maggot issue was Michael Rivero.
They're both banned now. But they were right.
