There always several sides to any story and several possible solutions to any problem. Well, we agreed with your first sentiments about the article in question. We deleted it. Then we had second thoughts and for the sake of free speech reinstated the article. Unfortunately, there were already a hundred or so replies posted to the article by the time we deleted it. And, also unfortunately, the new program deletes every reply individually when a thread is pulled. When we reinstated the thread, the program did not reinstate each individual reply. John will work on the program to fix this when he gets time. In the meantime, we will not be able to reinstate individual replies once deleted and we will not be able to fully reinstate pulled threads. The moderators did not purposely delete those individual replies. Hope that is clearer than mud.

I read it, and I've been thinking about it. I can see both sides. The only thing that seems strongly on your side is that he was not just a citizen but paid member of law enforcement, on the job. If he had a contract not to reveal information, then you did the right thing. BUT, you could not know that AND it would not be your job to prevent his free speech anyway. It's totally his responsibility.

Had he been just everyday Joe, getting off a plane, he would have no responsibilty to keep quiet; just his own judgement. This was a police action, not a military one. The same rules don't and should not apply. I strongly believe that Americans keep this a wonderful country, that's why we have government in the sunshine.

Arator actually tried his own website at one time. Even while he was flaming JR for banning him (for the 300th time), his own site policy was that you had to be of the same political beliefs as him to be given posting priviledges. That sure made for some very stimulating conversations; watching three people tell each other FR sucks for 30 minutes.

Instead of a shut down of the moderator system I propose to let the biggest whiners of censorship moderate this forum. If you think you can handle the complaints then talk to Jim, apply for the job. I've also noticed FR is missing some stories, which means there's a larger hole in the poster's coverage. It might simply because of the 'anthrax' noise in the media and that distraction. It seems, sometimes, like little else is going on. What can Freepers do to improve the quality of this site?
