The Censored Republic
Free Republic | Jim Robinson

Posted on 10/25/2001 8:59:47 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Ok, this is a free for all thread. Come in and take your best shots. I promise I won't delete it or get upset. Get it out of your systems and then we will see if we can solve the problems. There always several sides to any story and several possible solutions to any problem. I'd like to hear them all and I'd like to solve as many problems as we can and get this forum kicking socialist butt again instead of kicking each other. So, please anyone with a complaint or a problem or a possible solution, (moderators, posters, FAB, everyone) please chime in. Thanks, Jim

I'm addicted to FR and have a messy house and an underfed husband to prove it! One feature I would like is something that would allow me to read all threads posted on a certain day. If I am unable to access FR for whatever reason, it would be nice to read the articles I missed without having to continually hit the 'back' button.

More info on the front page would be good, but I doubt we will ever implement a banned persons list. Thansk

It might be good for a ban - e(?) to get an email saying that they got banned .

I got an e-mail. I also got a mesage on the reply page that said why.

FOX is reporting blah, blah, blah..... More to follow.... There is no information and mostly it is rumor or conjecture.

lolol...this isn't the fault of the poster, this is a very accurate translation of a "Fox News" report...one line, lots of hype, and very little substance....;)

With regard to how you've put the overall forum together, I have to say that I do appreciate it. Fact is, I don't bother watching the news any more... I come here, see what's happening around the world (sans CNN/ABC/CBS/NBC censoring), and I'm up to speed on things.

Very cool.

My one pet peeve, is that you allow the religious people continue a thread ad infinitum, where they debate whether Jesus had bad breath (after the last supper), the so-called proof of God (or conversely, the lack thereof), and so on... Endlessly debating something which can never be proven or disproven... But they're willing to debate endless, waste bandwidth, and flame anybody who has the balls to point out the lack of logic to pursuing such a debate.

My suggestion, to alleviate this facet of forum "moderation," would be to set aside a particular forum for those who wish to constantly debate the religious (or abortion, or flat-Earth, or whatever) aspects, without making the rest of us look at this, every time we hit the "Latest Posts" link...

I.e., a sub-forum, for those who wish to bash each other about the head, on their most favorite (or hated) subject...

OK, I'm done bitching... Thanks for the work you do, and doing this "bitch-session" thread.

FReegards to you, sir.

I'm all for that. If we never had another rumor posted here, I'd be happy.

That's no good, IMHO. There shouldn't be a cyber pillory for suspended posters. That sort of thing should be between Jim, John, and the individual.

I am not so concerned about why someone was banned. I trust Jim's opinion and discretion, but it would be nice to know how long they are out for. A simple list of who is banned and who is suspended would help.

BTW Thanks Jim and company for all you do.

I have one tiny suggestion. When responding to an article I use to be able to write "all" when sending a response out, now for some reason it wont let you do that. Most of my responses are meant to go out to everybody, typing(To:all) sure beats typing (To: "thirty different names")

Yeah! That comes in handy too when you want to alert others about a post...for example you could put in a "MUST READ!!!" in the "to" when you thought it was a great post..

Now that ain't fair. I think I've given you a reason everytime I've banned you. You just didn't like my reasons. Can't think of a single reason why I ever let you back in though. Enjoy.

Way too few threads get deleted.

And vanity posters should be hunted down and have their underwear set afire.

I'll chime in.
This forum needs to be "moderated" because it is one of the most potent voices of political thought on the internet. It therefore attracts scumbag Democrat operatives and liberal sympathizers who want nothing more than to discredit Free Republic and drag down the level of discourse. Some of these scumbags are extremely patient and crafty.

I have absolutely no problem with kicking off anybody who gives a moderator so much as a whiff of sympathizing with the liberal Democrat agenda of destroying the traditional American family unit and supporting big government socialism and all the mediocrity and sickness that comes with it. Identify the scumbags and kick them off. No problem here. I happen to think the moderators have been doing a good job.

Regards,
LH

We get tens of thousands of points of view here. The problem is some are a lot more pointed than others and still others are just plain dull.

What gives me a giggle is that threads that predict doom or American incompetance or inability seem to go on for HUNDREDS of replies, but threads that talk about our strengths or what we are doing right seem to die out after a few dozen replies.

If anyone wants to test my theory, try this -- post an article enumerating how the U.S. fouled up something in Afghanistan or is going to lose big if we put boots on the ground. Gar-an-tee, it will go on and on and on andonandonandon.

Next post a thread about why our strengths and their weaknesses indicate that we are going to beat the Taliban. Within 30 minutes -- gone. No more replies.

Must be something contrary about humans.

Oh, that little incident was piddly. I would not know what to do with myself if I couldn't visit with The Guild and check out rintense's daily dose of dubya! And the breaking news is the best. I don't have cable and I appreciate breaking news a great deal. I even like the unsubstantiated rumors, because a lot can be gleaned from rumors sometimes.

Maybe in the automated message that states a topic has been deleted, the moderater could have a selection of messages? Like

This thread has been deleted due to: Duplicate Posting
Or
This thread has been deleted due to: Security Concerns

This way, the person would know why, but not be able to respond and thus argue with the moderator.
