The Censored Republic
Free Republic | Jim Robinson

Posted on 10/25/2001 8:59:47 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Ok, this is a free for all thread. Come in and take your best shots. I promise I won't delete it or get upset. Get it out of your systems and then we will see if we can solve the problems. There always several sides to any story and several possible solutions to any problem. I'd like to hear them all and I'd like to solve as many problems as we can and get this forum kicking socialist butt again instead of kicking each other. So, please anyone with a complaint or a problem or a possible solution, (moderators, posters, FAB, everyone) please chime in. Thanks, Jim

Dittos on all the compliments on the forum. It's better than ever.

To repeat my recent suggestion, it would be good if an automatic notification could be FReep-mailed to the poster when an article is removed. The moderators could have a form with checkboxes to efficiently handle the most common situations (duplicate post, profanity, violence, loose lips, etc.) - and a textbox for a brief explanation of unusual situations.

The moderators are doing a good job, but the tools they use could be improved to give some feedback when an article must be removed. And hopefully, that would reduce the number of "Why Was My Article Deleted?" and "I Was Censored!" posts.

Mr. Robinson: My dad got me hooked on last year, and I am thankful to have a place to come after a long hard day at the office

to "listen" to others talk about their lives & their country. Honestly, I get most of my news source from your site, and it's great.

My very favorite daily post is the "Day in the life of Bush" photographs, and I use them to send to all my friends.

I weep a lot while in FR, listening, viewing, thinking...

Thank you for your good work.

Multiple posts in breaking news do need to be pulled, but too often the best of the multiple threads are pulled. Perhaps the moderator could link these pulled threads.

Since 9-11 the networks are showing their true colors. Now is the time for FR to shine. Keep up the good work this site is the best. Thanks Jim.

Leave all the fucking shit posted right where it gets loaded. Do it without an annoucement so all the limpwristed dicks won't know to go into hiding that week.

You know, it's hard to get the Little People too interested in complying with a "NO profanity" rule when A MODERATOR comes along and posts something like this.

Blatant hypocricy on the part of the moderator staff is a sure-fire way to cause major dissent on the part of FR members.

When I reply to a post from somewhere mid-thread, is it really necessary that FR then leap me to the end of the thread and force me to manually go back to where I was reading?

Just hit your back button a few times and you'll be right back where you were.

With my first post on FR I was promptly given the title "liar" and accused of "spreading rumors". I was a "newbie" and therefore was obviously a "disruptor".

Imagine my shock when once again I was called a "disruptor" and put in my place by an old timer. I was asked publicly and Freepmailed numerous times about "who were you before"

While I don't scare easily and wasn't planning on going anywhere I did get a Freepmail explaining the disruptor accusations.

Okay, I think this may have gotten the bitterness out of my system. I have never been to FR before under another name. My father recommended this place to me and I have been visiting ever since. Please, don't keep asking me. Have somebody run my IP or whatever it takes.

There is a thread in regard to "search" . As I understand it the changes are to improve performance and much of the function of search is imbedded in the Bump list register.

Don't know why,but w/ the new format, using Netscape 4.73, I have to reset my "open in new window" preference each and every time I return to the site.

Your problem is obvious.

You're using Netscape.

One problem with Arator is that he gratuitously flamed the management publically. That is poor manners, unless done in a very composed and thoughtful way. When I have a gripe, as I have had a time or two or three, I have freepmailed, and received courteous responses, some with which I agree, and some not. Good manners should be fostered around here, even as they may be losing traction elsewhere. They are the lubricant and the glue that is essential to a useful dialogue among those who disagree in the public square. Without it, things degenerate rapidly, and any useful educative or informational function is lost in all the sound and fury.

Censorship of grassroots generated info on troop movements and other militarily sensitive information is a reasonable and prudent measure. Censorship of news and commentary already in the public domain and available to anyone everywhere but FR, on the other hand, only limits the information available to FReepers without any benefit accruing to national security. Censorship of news and commentary critical of our government is nothing other than fascism on the march and is unworthy of an American political news forum.

WELLLLLLL, PRECIOUS, TREASURED JIM (& JOHN),

MOSTLY, THE FIRST 1,000 THINGS I'd prefer to say would be:

THANKS
THANKS!
THANKS!!
THANKS!!!
etc.

And greatly improving health, satisfaction, fulfillment and joy in your life and relationships for your sacrificial service to the U.S. of A and to all of us.

FOR, SURE, FOR SURE, FOR SURE.

############################

Thanks also for this chance to try and clear the air but more importantly, to try and reach a better, more viable and productive solution to a matter that concerns me a fair amount.

I've been a concervative all my life. I was a conservative in grade school and only became more so. I voted for Barry Goldwater.

I fiercely support and stand for the values I understand you set up FR to be about. I always have. Don't expect to change.

Yet, I've sometimes been accused of being disruptive. . . . primarily because someone else got their knickers in a twist over some issue or way I presented an issue. . . even though I've been trying hard to be charitable and polite and I think MOSTLY succeeding.

The major problem seems to be the audacity I have to believe that Christian prophecy has a very viable if not important place in discussing government, the current news and protecting the sort of USofA the founding fathers thought they were setting up for all posterity.

All manner of OUTLANDISH ideas, positions, docs, opinions stated in almost all manner of outrageous ways can be shared on FR BUT THAT ONE. WHY? What's the big deal? It is but ONE aspect, perspective, point of view etc. Either it has some viability or it doesn't. But it's perfectly reasonable, and seemingly well within the goals of FR to discuss such--AT LEAST FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SUCH VALUES AND CONVICTIONS--of which there are many on FR--most of them silent because they don't prefer to be raged at by those screaming about tin-foil hats.

Personally, I think the whole area of Christian prophecy is still a chaotic grab bag. It's sometimes hard to filter out the signal from the noise for those of us familiar with it. ALL THE BETTER TO BRING SUCH TO THE WISE, STERN, SHARP PEOPLE AT FR--toss it about and see what survives. I don't expect those of opposing viewpoints or even nonChristians for that matter--to offer great enlightenment on a sort of in-house Christian issue.

But there are Believers hereon who have a lot of perceptiveness AND THE PERSPECTIVE OF FR THAT I THINK IS PRICELESS TO BRING TO BEAR ON SUCH INPUTS, ISSUES, PERSPECTIVES. Why shouldn't we--even I--for that matter--why shouldn't we have the opportunity to do that?

Personally, I think the next 3-6 months will present a whole new ball game on whether and what kind etc. of Christian prophecy can have anything to add to the discussion of USA and world issues in the news of keen interest to FR or not. I believe the better ones will have much import to contribute to the discussion. But we shall see. Why not have the dialogue on FR for whatever benefit MIGHT occur??? A LOT WORSE ROUTINELY GOES ON AT FR without great damage to any of us or to the country or to FR.

Personally, I even like it when contrary types throw potshots that require me to consider an aspect or issue I hadn't thought of before IF THEY ARE WILLING TO DO IT WITH AT LEAST A SHRED OF MUTUAL RESPECT instead of outright haughty hostility. But I'm willing to ignore most whatever nonsense I need to ignore to achieve the above goals.

It would be nice if there were a venue on FR; a category, something--where such posts could be presented. THOSE INCLINED, INTERESTED TO DIALOGUE PEACEABLY, MUTUALLY RESPECTFULLY WOULD BE WELCOME. Those getting hostile and irate could be warned and as a last resort--kept out of THAT venue; thread. NO need to ban wholesale, on my account.

BUT ALSO, NO NEED TO PREVENT SUCH DIALOGUE JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR RIGID, NARROW SENSIBILITIES (as they scream about rigidity and narrowness!!!).

At some point, it just seems like there's something very intellectually dishonest about a very conservative set of Christians who WHOLESALE support the U.S. of A surviving in something like the Constitution etc. set it up to survive--something's intellectually dishonest about preventing such a group discussing Christian prophetic documents about core issues related to that survaival--vs globalism, vs terrorists, vs whatever.

If any other perspective etc. that remotely hinted at conservatism and even just a hint of support of FR values were SIMILARLY BANNED--the outrage on FR would be defeaning and long lasting. But the constituency of which I'm a part of loathes to make such noises; is often gunshy to begin with and often are unable and/or unwilling to even begin to stand up to the shrillness those hostile to our persuasions are seemingly compulsively given in to.

It just seems to me, Jim, that there has to be at least 4-8 OTHER VIABLE solutions than totally banning such. I just don't understand even the logic of that.

It seems to me that even if you had some pique at God, or even at Christians, or even at Charismatic/prophecy believing Christians--that on the OUTSIDE CHANCE that something they were into COULD POSSIBLY END UP contributing to the protection, survival, enhancement of a more conservatively constructed U.S. of A.--then I'd think your better self would bend over backwards making such a group; such a dialogue--MORE THAN WELCOME, SUPPORTED AND ENCOURAGED. I can't understand the logic of anything otherwise.

And silence on your part doesn't help explain it or resolve it a bit--except in resolving it like a meat axe resolve's a chicken's anxiety. I am MOST thankful for this thread and the hope of something coming of it.

AGAIN, MY GREATEST DESIRE IS TO THANK YOU AND SUPPORT YOU AND FR. It just seems like there ought to be SOME WAY, and some PLACE at FR for such perspectives and issues to be part of the PROTECTING AND IMPROVING THE US dialogue.

THANKS TONS FOR FR. COMFORT, HEALTH AND JOY TO YOU. SINCERELY,

I'm sorry, you must not have made it past my first sentence. I understand completely. In fact, I've pulled posts after reading just the first two words. Problem is, I then had to spend thirty more minutes soothing an injured ego because he claimed I pulled his post because of content, not profanity.

I guess my point has already been lost on some.
