Lobbying Day in Albany..this coming Tuesday

Dear Friend of New Yorks Hospitality Industry

IT'S TIME TO TAKE ACTION TO AMEND THE SMOKING BAN!

URTO, along with the New York Nightlife Association, The Empire State Restaurant & Tavern Association and the Amusement and Music Operators of America, is inviting you to attend "Lobby Day" in Albany next Tuesday, June 8th, to help us lobby the state legislature for a reasonable amendment to last year's statewide smoking ban.

Legislation has been introduced in both the Assembly and Senate to allow smoking once again in bars, clubs and taverns that install state-of-the-art air filtration systems. We think this is a very reasonable compromise to the ban, since it will only impact bars and clubs - the establishments that got hit the hardest by the ban - yet will still keep the air inside clean, since the air filtration devices will only be approved by the State if they meet very strict Health Department standards for clean air.

There is a REAL CHANCE to pass the Meier-Destito Amendment - THIS YEAR!!

The time to act on this legislation is NOW!!!

The legislature is planning to wrap up their legislative session on June 22, so we only have a few short weeks left to let them know how bad this ban has been for our business. We need owners, employees, customers, suppliers up to come up to Albany next Tuesday to let our representatives know how important it is that they amend the smoking ban before they come home to seek re-election.

We will be gathering in Albany next Tuesday, June 8th at 10:00 AM. Our plan is that we will be congregating in the Assembly Parlor, which is Rm. 306 of the State Capitol. The Capitol is on State Street between S. Swan Street and Eagle Street.

If you are planning on attending, please RSVP by sending me an email at Brian.nolan@urandto.com or calling me at 212-557-5200 and I will update you on our schedule for the day.

Again, this is our last chance to amend the smoking ban this year. We need to see you up in Albany next week! Car-pools are available. Thanks again for your help.

Sincerely,

Brian Nolan

Exec Director

Hey, that's fantastic! Good luck my friend! Just one last question- is it a democrat in office now or a republican that's not going to run any more?

That is not what bothers me though. What bothers me is that when I speak my mind and it is not the same view as the posters on this thread, I am excessively chastised. I have been a strong advocate for conservative causes, including going as far as leading counter protest against hippies when they had a 5:1 advantage against us- but I say one thing about the dangers of smoking and I get ganged up on. There is a difference between debate and personal attacks. If anyone would like to do either, send me mail through FR Mail, but after this week, I have finals to study for...

Don't you DARE try to be the martyr here.  I will post in here what you sent to me in FReep mail!  Personal attacks???  Ganged up on???? YOU started this my young friend.  If ANYone was ganged up on, it was YOU.  I didn't start this.  YOU did.

you have got to be kidding me! I thought I was here talking with another adult, but I guess not. I thought that I was one of the youngest here on FR (i'm 17). Smoking killed my grandfather- is that not proof enough?! I was being calm and reserved before, but why don't I let it all out. Just the other day, smoking was linked to more types of cancer. Smoking is not good for you. Do you not see that? There is a reason why they say "Don't Smoke" and guess what- it is GRIMEY and GROSS. Thetruth.com's aggenda? to OPEN YOUR EYES. Talking about mental size, i've been trying to start a debate and you just keep going after me personally! If you think that second hand smoke does not kill, then you sure as hell are going to be in for a big surprise one day.

Lastly, believe me, it is not thetruth.com that swayed me for crap. I have been doing research on this for the past 2 years- I have not found one good thing about smoking. By the way, thetruth.com, they have on their resources page, research done by universities and government agencies, and docs from the ACTUAL COMPANIES stating how bad it is! If you would like, I would be more than happy to send you a research paper that i did where i got an A+, and you can look at my sources at the end and see for yourself.

Are you so closed minded? If so, I feel sorry for you.

Excuse me, but the truth.com sucks the big one!  You are easily swayed.  You believe what someone writes that YOU agree with.

Wow- basically what I was saying before- and the example of my dislike for smoking. I'm not trying to be a martyr- I was trying to stop some sort of debate going on with others and me before it got to the point where I would have to answer so many e-mails. Being that it is very hard to express emotions online without the use of emotion faces, I think it is easy to see how someone might misunderstand the mood being set by posters.

I was going to just let this all go, that is why I sent that stuff to you through Freep Mail, I didn't want to get into some big thing with all the people on this thread. I even said that if anyone wanted to DRAG THIS ON to e-mail me through freep mail.

By the way, the 2nd thing in red that I wrote was a spin off of your "Are you easily swayed? Do you believe everything you read? If so, I feel sorry for you" that you sent me in freep mail.

The whole point of what I said in my post was to set differences aside being that even if we don't agree on somethings, we agree on most, and would be more effective if we were not feuding like this.

To close this thing, I will let it out: I don't think smoking is good for you. Just note that I never said anything about how I felt on the law (just on smoking in general!)... If people don't agree here, that is fine, it's a free country. We can agree to disagree, because if we like it or not, I don't think that either of us are going to be changing our minds any time soon. What's been said, has been said, and what's done is done; It might not be easy now, but I say lets put this behind us and work togelther to help re-elect our president.

Thankyou, I found it with the info you gave me.
I also found out today that a friend of mine, a former town councilman from Grand Island
wants to challange Hoyt in the democrat primary.
I will be meeting him shortly for a discussion of upcoming events.
It is going to be an interesting election season.

In other action, Conservatives endorsed County Legislator Mark J.F. Schroeder, a Democrat seeking the Assembly seat being vacated by Brian M. Higgins of Buffalo;

Rus Thompson, a registered Conservative from Grand Island, against incumbent Democratic Assemblyman Sam Hoyt of Buffalo.

The party also endorsed for re-election these incumbents: State Sen. William T. Stachowski, D-Buffalo; State Sen. Dale M. Volker, R-Depew; State Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-Williamsville; Assemblywoman Sandra Lee Wirth, R-Elma; Assemblyman Paul A. Tokasz, D-Cheektowaga; and Assemblyman James P. Hayes, R-Williamsville.

Mayor, just something that might be of help to you. the dem's have something called "21st century democrats" where they give money to lower office democrats to get a grass roots thing going, you might want to check the RNC to see if there is something like that so it can help you out.

Too bad that some politicians can't seem to figure that out, haha.

The lawmakers have their "own" agenda, which isn't good for the constituents. I found that out long ago. Once in office, they do what they want to do! :(

"I would be more than happy to send you a research paper that i did where i got an A+, and you can look at my sources at the end and see for yourself."

It's easy to get an A+ when you support the indoctrination center's agenda. Something every "conservative" teen should be proud of!
