I think it was introduced by German immigrants in the 1800's. Tejanos just took it to a whole new level. There are quite a few German colonies (towns) in Texas...like Fredrickburg, Comfort, Ingrahm, Shiner, New Braunfels, etc. You have to go to Texas sometime and see it. Stay in San Antonio...along the Riverwalk of course...then drive to Fredricksburg and indulge on all things German. It will blow you away.
Well, as you should now know -- it sure as hell beats the alternative!
Enjoy it, relish it, cherish it.......getting MUCH older and enjoying your family is the goal.....
Hang in there partner...
You'll also start feeling much more normal as they back you off the drugs... I suffered more from the drugs than the attack and hospital stay.
Semper Fi
Quite right. Derek Trucks is a name that should be on a top 100 list of Rock guitarists for sure.
Here's a sample of my favorite Tejano singer Pete Astudillo. He really mixes it up with all types of music. This one has the classic cumbia beat with the accordian in the background. Man...I have to figure out how to post audio files. I think Tejano music is amazing. Sometimes it sounds German, sometimes it sounds Spanish, and sometimes it's almost Arabic. I think it is one of the most romantic genre of music out there. All songs in Tejano music require you to dance close to your partner, or at least hold them in an intimate way.
Or Rick Derringer or Johnny Winter!! But Tommy Iommi?? Bwahahahahaha!!
I'm not sure about the Spanish, but I do know the French have probably been assimilated somewhat...I think after they lifted themselves up out of the fetal position they took on the accordian.
Pretty tough to outdo Rick Derringer with "Edgar" Winter at the Whiskey a go go when he rails "Back in the USA"!
However, his greatest work as Rick Derringer was in his producing.
Hard to believe he was only 16 when he did "Hang on Sloopy" with the McCoys when he was still known as Rick Zerringer!
Uh-huh. For kids who think a guitar is a prop in a hair-and-make-up-band lifestyle.
I remember one time looking at that rag, and there was a "guest tutorial" from some be-permed girly-man who had "discovered" that -- holy smokes! -- you could play the "blues" (relative minor pentatonic) scale in positions other than the first. I mean, like, there's notes in this scale, dude, and if you, like, think, there are notes in that scale all over the, like, neck. (Except he did it with a lot of John "F" Kerry expletives).
I thought, "how extraordinary, Holmes" and resolved not to buy that again. Mind you, if it gets kids interested in playing music it's got some good in it; the talented ones will grow out of their guitar-strap-at-full-extension phase, and one in ten thousand of the untalented ones will be on the cover of the magazine in a few years, given the right hairdo....
