A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to a Christmas Contest

There will be SEVEN prizes!!
P.S. Six are spoken for.
1
2
3
A 2004 Republican National Committee Wall Calendar, Each Page Containing a Beautiful Photograph of Our President!
4
5
6
A 2004 Quilt Engangement Calendar!!

It's about time we give Christmas tips to the hostesses around here.   Each of the five regular hostesses -- Billie, Mama_bear, Dansangel, Dutchess, and Aquamarine -- will receive one of the gifts pictured above (unless they prefer of course not to trust an erratic judge like me with their snail mail address, hee hee!).

But hmm, they've all been so good this year.  Who should get which gift??  Play Santa the best and divvy up the gifts and you'll win a special prize! And yes hostesses *are* qualified to enter the contest win the surprise gift too. Of course, a holiday contest thread wouldn't be complete without silly rules, so here are mine:

THE RULES

You know how wonderful our hostesses are
And you know how hard they work.
So pony up your Christmas tip
And don't be a stingy jerk.

Above you see six pictured toys
And your only job is a piece of cake:
Write a poem of that explains
Which gift each hostess should take.

Explain in your poem -- which need not rhyme
Why which hostess should get which toy.
If your poem is the best you'll win for yourself
A surprise which will bring much joy.

To do well in this contest it will help to have read
Some of the threads of this year.
So you'll know, e.g., which hostess loves quilts
And whose hot for George W. in flight gear.

But if you don't know, that's no excuse
Not to offer a poem of praise.
It's Christmas time and well we all know
How much our hostesses deserve a raise.

As you can see from this poem my standards are low
Regarding both meter and rhyme,
But one key to winning is to be sure to enter
By 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

They've worked so hard all year long
And given you color, and graphics, and fun, and great joy.
Please help play Santa for our lovely sistahs
And you'll win a precious toy!

Now some of you may see six gifts
And think that I'm the sixth
But guess again and think real hard
About who else should be on your list!

There's another who appears more often
And delights you with his prose
He should get a gift too and which one
You'll also decide in your lovely poem.

Good luck and have fun and my final advice
Is go for it and be sincere
It's the thought that counts, not how "good" your poem
Just share with us your good cheer!

oh wow, that was just, um, lol, *interesting* -- it's exactly the sort of poetry I'd write if I were running around all day and my MOm was looking over my shoulder!

Of course, as I've always mentioned, I give *great* preference to hostess poetry here. so . . . um, even then, um, lol, ok, I'm not saying anything. hee hee. You get a doll just 'cause. Let me figure out which one, honey.

Time to make the donuts -- oops, I mean do the judging. This is great wine I'm drinking. Hiccup.

Hi, Syncro!

No, haven't had one since Senor Frog's last February. Sounds really good though. LOL.

You are so cute, wolfie! I think you have all of the hostesses pegged pretty well. :-)

I can tell you are feeling better and that makes my fuzzy heart smile.

Christmas tips to the hostesses -- most appropriate. Thanks for helping to do just that. Of course, I think my poem was the most brilliant, but I was disqualified due to my drinking problem, but that's all under a court-ordered seal and I can't get into the details.

Gee, I wished I'd ordered more George W. -- shoulda figured those would be most popular. Well, I gave them out in the order they were spoken for. You'll note that St.Louie1 is on the list even though he didn't have a poem! Well, chalk that up to my drinking problem or lovely picture-qua-poem of the hostess/wolves. JulieRNR21 and Dixe Sass did great poems! As did dansangel, but since she was getting a covetted George W. doll, I figured she'd let me off the hook. Chalk it up to my penchant to be decidedly whimiscal in the judging, so that people will know that I don't think too hard about this and winning/losing doesn't really mean anything.

What means a lot to me -- and it really does, guys -- is the kindness you've shown the hostesses today. It's a lot of work to put a thread and you guys were a great, grateful team today with the poetry. Thanks to each of you so much for playing. May the love of Christ live in each of your hearts this Christmas.

Finally, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm going to give Aqua and Dutchess the option of trading in their Rumsfelds for George W's if they wish -- I can give the Rumsfelds to others for xmas -- providing they're willing to wait an extra couple of weeks to get their George Ws. Your option. I really shoulda ordered more of the George Ws and I'm really thinking I want one of the Rummys for myself, so if either or both of you want to "trade up" the executive chain of command, just Freepmail me so.

Happy holidays and if you're a winner, do give me your snailmail privately because I actually DO give out these gifts.

Yes, Julie was definitely a winner here. If I didn't have extra prizes to give out (due to Billie's demurement), it would have been tricky choosing between her and Dixie Sass.

I'm sorry Pip. You had a great entry too, but, y'know, having won last year, I kinda wanted to spread the wealth. Terribly socialist of me, I know, tsk tsk. But I comfort myself in the knowledge that the new hobbit movie is out so you will indeed have a blessed holiday season! {{{Pippin}}} Thanks so much for playing.

A reprise of jwfiv's lovely poem:

Miss Freezie, your rhyme is for a reason,
and it's perfect for the season.

Quite a task you've given us
as we cruise through Freeperville in our Magic Bus.

Pippin's list is very fine,
The Thin Man's thick with sugar and brine.

His discriminating way will never vex,
'tis love he gives, just ask LadyX.

Miss Dansy's own was very bold,
it shows a brave heart that'll never grow old.

All our Hostesses deserve the best, and that's my wish, from way out West.

About the gifts, I haven't much clue,
but one doll, I know, should go to you know who.

Miss Coulter would love a date with John Huang2.

Freezie threw a party
To pass out Christmas gifts.
Whodda thunk she'd get it right,
With all the wine she drunk.

Merry Christmas FReezie!

WOW, Free....How exciting to get your FReepmail that I'd won a prize.....and it is just what I need....a new engagement calendar for 2004!

I really had fun writing that 'poem' that didn't rhyme! lucky for me... I attended a luncheon today and heard a Chorus sing the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' and that inspired me to use that theme for the 'poem'!

With Warm Wishes from Florida to all my Finest Freeper FRiends, Julie
