[Ron] Paul Raises $6 Million in 24-Hour Effort [December 16, 2007]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.

Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.

At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.

Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.

Of course by Soros, you silly fellow! In fact, Ron Paul is Soros. Actually, Soros is a shapeshifting reptilian from the hollow Earth and Ron Paul is one of the forms he takes. Hillary is another form, as are John Lithgow and the Quaker Oats guy. What we all need to is build concrete bunkers and hide in them with guns and stocked canned goods until the spaceship comes to save us. /s

***soon-to-be-law S1959***

S1959 (thought crimes) will end up shutting down all kinds of websites. Based on the interpretation of the language it can include FR as well. Especially if Hillary wins.

For some reason, a lot of people are cheering for this bill.

It should be fought just as hard as we fought the amnesty bill.

No way I’d ever vote for Paul but you have to give his staff/campaign credit for doing a great job.

More poetry! Oh joy!

A FReeper named End Times Crusader
Was a Paul-phobe of the lowest nadir
For no good reason at all
He just hated Ron Paul
And would have voted against him for Nader.

I disagree with his foreign policy...and even if all of America reverted to the 20’s mentality of ‘nothing is wrong at our borders then we’re okay’...I would still not support him.

CableNewsJunkie2: Is it a bad thing to have a truly conservative candidate that is able to garner support from all over the political spectrum? Isn’t that how you’re supposed to win elections? By taking votes away from the other guy?

ConservativeJen: Of the 3 Congressmen who I like (Tancredo, Hunter, and Paul) it seems Paul has the best chance to win. He has also shown he can draw support from independents, new voters, and dems so he would stomp all over Hillary

Exactly. I also like Hunter and Tancredo, and I feel the same way as you. Paul is the only one who can beat Hillary, precisely because he draws support from all those you mentioned. Definitely none of the establishment candidates can do that. And if one of them gets the nomination, say hello to president Hildabeast.

You have a better memory than most of those anti-Paul posters here, rineaux.

I wonder how many of the newbies are aware that a sizable number of FReepers opposed the PATRIOT Act when it went through Congress without a single member having read the whole thing?

For all I know, some of them may still post here.

“Hmm, I guess you’re right that Reagan wasn’t perfect in his foreign policy”

And you think Ron P would do better than Reagan in the early 80’s (with his current policy)?

This proves the McLame panic about campaign fundraising is bogus.

This guy is raising million$, but he still won't win the White House.

He will, however, be laughing his libertarian ass off all the way to the bank at the mini-Quixotes who throw money his way.

I’m not sure what you are saying here. That policing the world is a good thing? The fact of the matter is, the primary reason the USSR collapsed was because its own economic flaws. Our military interventions in places like Korea, Vietnam, and Grenada did not help these matters.

If FDR was so adamant about going into WWII, it’s interesting that he had to wait for Pearl Harbor to get the support and still had to wait for Germany and Italy to declare war on the US and for Congress to then declare war on them. That’s the constitutional way to go about it. How different things are now, when Congress washes its hands of military responsabilities. Paul would make Congress actually declare war before he, as Commander-in-Cheif, went to war. But he would not encourage unnecessary interventions in the internal affairs of other nations. What is wrong with that?

It’s one thing to crow a little bit, but if you want to win over voters from other candidates, you probably shouldn’t be demeaning or insulting to them.

Seeing as how he would be similar to Reagan in building a strong national defense to ensure the USSR didn’t try to attack us, I think his presidency, like Reagan’s, would have likely ended with the collapse of Soviet Union. In both cases it was more a matter of waiting them out, while making sure we weren’t weak defense-wise. That is primarily what we did and what I believe Paul would have done.

Today, there was a Tea Party at the Santa Monica pier (California) for Ron Paul. The organizer thought, Tuesday before last, that there would be about 100-125 people. Then the word came to him last Tuesday that there were buses coming in from Santa Barbara, Ventura County, and Riverside - so he figured about 500 people would be there. Instead of 500, about 1,000 people marched from Reed Park in Santa Monica, through the 3rd Street Promenade, to the Santa Monica pier.

Featured speakers were G. Edward Griffin, author of “Creature from Jekyll Island” (about the establishment of the Federal Reserve), and Dan Sheehy, author of “Fighting Illegal Immigration Anarchy.” There were other speakers and after each one spoke, a symbolic crate emblazoned with IRS, FED RESERVE, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, WELFARE STATE, WARFARE STATE, etc., was thrown off the pier.

I should mention that, close to the pier, there is a memorial for every U.S. serviceman killed in the Middle East since the war against terrorism began. Every day this memorial is set up early in the morning and taken down at sundown as the City of Santa Monica won’t allow it on the beach over night.

Most of the 1,000 people went down to the memorial site and, with a fife and drum corp. of three men dressed in Rev. War attire, a short memorial service for the fallen was held.

Then we went back up the steps to the pier and the end of the pier. There were video recorders everywhere but not one member of the MSM was there.

In all, the number of people could be divided into thirds: 1/3 age 18-35; 1/3 35-55; and 1/3 55 and up. I recognized a lot of my friends whom I know are rock-solid conservatives. Funny, George Soros never appeared. Perhaps Soros knew that he would have been thrown off the pier, too.

The chants of “RON PAUL!” and “FREEDOM” were thunderous. The responses to speakers’ questions were equally thunderous. Everyone was there to take back our country and restore the Constitution as the law of the land instead of unconstitutional executive orders, presidential directives, and signing statements. No one wants a CFR-annointed drone, e.g., Guiliani, Romney, McCain, Thompson, Huckabee (why do you think his numbers have risen recently?), Hillary, Obama, Dodd, and Biden.

Ron Paul is the real deal and his record of consistency - spanning four decades - in the U.S. Congress is why supporters love him. Interesting, too, is the fact that people all over the world love him and wish that they had a man of Ron Paul’s character in their country for whom they could vote. Ron Paul’s name has struck a chord for freedom, prosperity, and peace worldwide.

For those who really like to check things out for themselves, go to YouTube.com and read the comments from Germans, Aussies, Brits, etc., who love Ron Paul. Go to MeetUp.com and find out where the MeetUp groups for Ron Paul are in foreign countries. Take a look at the graphs that show how many MeetUp groups there are in this country for Ron Paul. If all the other candidates were put together, their MeetUp groups would be less than half of Ron Paul’s.

Did I mention that there was going to be a big Ron Paul Tea Party in Strasbourg, France? People there are protesting international government interfering in their lives. (Brussels, for instance, has seven governments!)

Yes, Ron Paul’s message of freedom, peace, and prosperity has caught the attention of the world and struck fire in their hearts. Wasn’t it George Washington who said, “Liberty, once it catches hold, is a fast-growing plant.”

GO RON PAUL!!

As a servicemember, I can’t agree with Ron Paul’s foreign policy ideas. As for the rest, I agree completely. Ofcourse, you are right, his campaign staff seems to be doing a very good job. Too bad Hunter doesn’t have them working for him.

Uh, FYI, it was Ron Paul who led the Texas delegation to the Republican National Convention to nominate Ronald Reagan as President.

Ever heard of Afganistan...that little hub where the Russians failed to hold. You don’t think we had some involvement in keeping them from winning, did ya?

December 1979 – February 1989 (We played a huge role)

Of coarse there economics was a significant part, but indirect wars involve a lot financing. We had the dough...they didn’t. Instead of prolonging their envitable fall, and possibly furthering the chance of direct conflict...we starved them faster.

“If FDR was so adamant about going into WWII, it’s interesting that he had to wait for Pearl Harbor to get the support and still had to wait for Germany and Italy to declare war on the US and for Congress to then declare war on them.”

FDR’s constituency was ignorant, and they thought if they would just leave the world alone...it would be better for them. The vast majority of america held those stupid opinions. YES STUPID!

“That’s the constitutional way to go about it. How different things are now, when Congress washes its hands of military responsabilities. In declaring war, yes, you have to get approval. Now I would prefer it to be the clear cut way.

I did NOT prefer our entrance in to Iraq. Does that surprise you? Did you think I was just another ‘Yeah for the war’ kind of guy?

Doesn’t mean I don’t support it now, though. I never follow the polls. Polls are for fools. The public tends to be wrong, anyways.

Refer to ‘Art of Contrary Thinking’...tells you how wrong the masses usually are.

It never ceases to amaze me how the general FR opinion on media polls flip-flops depending on whether or not they support our particular point of view.

Let’s see...Paul’s raised tons and tons and tons of money from 100,000+ individuals in small donations, he wins most the straw polls, web polls, debate polls, has larger rallies than anyone, and more grassroots effort on the ground than anyone. He’s relatively low in most of the MSM’s “scientific” telaphone polls (though he’s going up even in them now, especially in the early states). Well the MSM’s polls must be right; they never lie nor distort. Who are you going to believe, Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch or your lying eyes?

If Ron Paul did Reagan’s tenure (or Reagan followed Ron Paul’s philosophy), Russia would probably dominate the Middle East.
