On Saturday, at the age of 39, that became a reality.

At an ordination Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, Brewer became the 136th priest now assigned in the 12-county Roman Catholic Diocese.

"This assembly is made up of people far and near. The common thread is their value of and association with Mark," said the Bishop Matthew H. Clark, who presided over the ceremony.

“He is very gifted,” Latus said.

His faith commitment must be very strong. Perhaps he will replace Clark as bishop someday.

Brewer was greeted with an ovation that Clark said was longer than any he had seen at an ordination.

And it will be even louder on that day when he replaces the bozo bishop of this diocese.

Dear NYer,

"His faith commitment must be very strong. Perhaps he will replace Clark as bishop someday."

One may rightly be concerned about this priest in that much of his priestly formation was at the American College of Louvain, and the Theological College in Washington, DC.

Okay ... I'm game! Why should we be concerned. I found the following information about the college. Is there something wrong with this picture?

From its foundation to the present day, the college has given four archbishops to the hierarchy of the Church: Charles John Seghere (Oregon City), d. 1886; Francis Janssens (New Orleans), d. 1897; P. W. Riordan (San Francisco); B. Orth (Victoria, B.C.); and eleven bishops, namely: A. Junger (Nesqually), d 1895, J. Lemmens (Vancouver Island), d. 1897 J. B. Brondel (Helena), d. 1903; A. J. Glorieux (Boise); C. P. Maes (Covington); J. L. Spalding (Peoria); A. Van de Vyver (Richmond); T. Meersehaert (Oklahoma), J. J. O'Connor (Newark); Wm. Stang (Fall River); Joseph J. Fox (Green Bay). It has sent 661 priests to America, 506 of whom are living and who are distributed as follows in the various provinces: Baltimore, 25; Boston, 36; Chicago, 69, Cincinnati, 122; Dubuque, 19; Milwaukee, 31; New Orleans, 65; New York, 61; Oregon City, 68; Philadelphia, 25; St. Louis, 74; St. Paul, 20; San Francisco, 4; Santa Fe, 23; Victoria, B.C., 16; Port of Spain, 4. There were 72 students entered on the rolls of the college in 1906; 62 in advanced or elementary theology, and 10 in philosophy.

Dear NYer,

The American College of Louvain did not receive favorable mention in Michael Rose's book. In fact, it came in for some significant criticism. The folks at the American College of Louvain have been fighting back at Mr. Rose, but this hasn't helped their cause, in that it has only raised more negatives about them.

I believe that there are something like four theology students currently enrolled at this school. I've read that this is because nearly no bishops in the United States are willing to send men there anymore.

As well, the Theological College doesn't do well in Mr. Rose's book, being known by many as the "Theological Closet". You can guess the meaning.

My own experiences with folks from TC were not encouraging, though that was a long time ago.

Correction: the school, in 2001/2002, had seven theology students, and four pre-theology students, in spite of the fact that it is meant to be available to all the bishops of the United States.

By contrast, the North American College in Rome, also available to US bishops, has a about 175 seminarians.

Wonderful that this one person was ordained. But what about the Arch/diocese that have been praying hours of Adoration 24/7 and are ordaining 7 to 10 this June?

Also, is this bishop reaping what has been sown in his diocese? I noticed it wasn't Hubbard, but you know what I mean.
