I think Cardinal Egan's words on September 11,2001,and continuing to yesterday have been vacuous and empty. I have longed for him to give something Catholic, substantive, comforting and true,at every opportunity he has had to publicly speak to America and have heard nothing but the same banal blah-blah.

That said,it would have been the height of insensitivity and un Christ-like behavior to launch into that diatribe about abortion. The Mass was offered for the departed souls, men and women, who are no longer with us and to provide solace, comfort and strength for those they left behind. To lose focus and switch over to other sorrows and pain would diminish the spiritual and human dignity of those for whom the Mass was offered.

In a sense it would be like telling the mother of a child, who was killed in Afghanistan,"I am sorry, but remember poor Mrs. Sullivan, she lost all five of her sons in World War II".It would have been cruel.

Sinkspur's comment about "a time and a place",is right on target. Now look what you people have done, you have put me in a position to agree with sinkspur,a place I never thought I'd be in.

He's not my cup of tea, but you and Duell seem to be quite alone in your desire to see abortion shoved in the faces of people on every occasion.

Why shouldn't it, innocents are being butchered by the millions?

<> I'd be willing to bet $1000.00 that LESS than 10% of your posts in Freeperville have addressed abortion. I guess you really aren't prolife, are you? <>

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in three different locations across this country, including right here in New York, by Mohammedan terrorists.

<> Pretty poor writing for a professional. Look at the sophomoric sentence construction.<>

And where was Egan when his church was desecrated on August 15?

The Catholic church teaches that Hell exists and it is occupied.

I believe in hell, but where is it written that it is occupied? "Visions" are not Catholic doctrine.

August 14. He was likely in his office. St. Patrick's is a tourist attraction. The only way to keep out publicity seekers like Anthony and Opie is to lock the Church except when Mass is being celebrated.

Read up on Fatima and then get back to me.

Visions are not doctrine. Got anything else?

Ha, Ha, very funny. I'm sure he was in his office, where else would he be?

Ok, do you like this better:

Why did not Cardinal Egan express any outrage over the desecration of his church? He was never seen after the event. He was quiet and seemed to do nothing; there were no press conferences, no rededication or blessing, no charges filed, no request for the FCC to investigate.

It seemed that Bill Donohue of the Catholic League led the charge where the Cat. League is not the official Church and the Cardinal is.

You have your answer.

As I said, Egan's not high on my list of exemplary churchmen. He's more of a CFO than a cleric.

I would guess he realized his credibility has been gravely damaged by revelations about his cover-ups.

Are you saying you don't believe the Blessed Mother?

Got anything besides the "visions" of three children?

Do you dispute the existence of Our Lady of Fatima or do you just dispute what the Mother of Christ said when she appeared?

I don't dispute the Mother of Christ. But, since her words were filtered by three children, I'd just like to see something from, say, St. Augustine, or Aquinas.

OK.

"That the saints may enjoy their beatitude and the grace of God more abundantly, they are permitted to see the punishment of the damned in hell." Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274 CE), Summa Theologica.

Who are the damned? Did Aquinas himself see them?
