And where was Egan when his church was desecrated on August 15? August 14. He was likely in his office. St. Patrick's is a tourist attraction. The only way to keep out publicity seekers like Anthony and Opie is to lock the Church except when Mass is being celebrated.

Why did not Cardinal Egan express any outrage over the desecration of his church? He was never seen after the event. He was quiet and seemed to do nothing; there were no press conferences, no rededication or blessing, no charges filed, no request for the FCC to investigate.
It seemed that Bill Donohue of the Catholic League led the charge where the Cat. League is not the official Church and the Cardinal is.
