My dear beloved fellow FReepers, I need to say thank you so very very much for all your intercession and prayers, and please continue to lift my beloved husband and I up before Father God.
He is doing well despite medication changes, toggling with low BP issues.
Today, after noticing over the last few months that I’ve been encountering increasing amounts of nausea either in waves or prolonged strong events (I have an Medtronic ENTERRA II implant), and thinking over this same amount of time “Oh, I’ve eaten something that didn’t agree with me” or “maybe I’ve a stomach bug” or too tired / got too hot being outdoors, and the list went on.
We went to my gastroenterologist/ implant surgeon early this morning to find out, upon a programmer reading of my gastric implant, that it was “depleted”. The doctor showed it to both of us, looking very serious. So I said to my beloved, “Well, looks like I’m getting another ENTERRA II, Sweetpea.”
Doctor told me, “There are no more ENTERRA II’s. ENTERRA is in process of switching to ENTERRA III’s (Ascent), and there aren’t enough [batteries]. (the whole device has to be replaced-no recharge, already knew this part).
“There’s a shortage of the new model and we may be looking at a month before we can get you one. If I had one I would implant you today.”
So I asked again no more ENTERRA II? No more available?
“No. Have to wait until the new ENTERRA III (Ascent) is available, and as soon as I can get some shipped here you are at the top of the list.”
He then left the room. The nurse waited until the doctor and two interns left before approaching me. I could barely hold it together. We talked about my mortality. It was selfish I think with my beloved right there.
She went and got the doctor to reassure me further. But I still broke down after we’d left his office.
Dear Lord Jesus, please help Medtronic get millions of these devices built and tested and shipped out for all of us millions that need them. Please help me be strong for my beloved husband. He needs me so much. I need to be able to be there for him. He’s been there for me through thick and thin.

Oh, my dear, you certainly are dealing with a lot. Prayers for both of you.
Thus far I’m seeing two or maybe three things at play from about 30 minutes of researching this. The FDA hasn’t approved the new Ascent device for use yet and has it on some sort of provisional-type thing. (2) Severity of a backlog of production of the ENTERRA II, of which is being said there are no more of (no more being made, surgery patients right now that have their ‘name etched on the device’ are the last ones getting the last ones in existence). (3.) Medtronic / Enterra is encountering a bottleneck in which there is a lack of parts, materials, etc. to make the new devices.
My doctor said he spoke with a representative from Medtronic, I would guess over the phone. I don’t know if he’s escalated my case as urgent or life-threatening but it would’ve been prudent if he did as it is.
Came back and said, after my husband was pressing for a timeframe for a device availability for me, it may be in the span of a month but I’d be the first implanted on his list. He’d call the moment he had one. And I think he’s being honest with us.
Tomorrow I’ll go about making a reply post that gleans information from all the different queries I’ve put in about the whole thing, noting sources and dates, etc.
