The Parable of The Prodigal Son, Judaism and Christianity
There are many links from the TANAKH to the Brit Chadashah, for example…
Psalms 77:15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
A certain man had two sons…
Sons of Jacob, Jews, sons of Joseph, Christians (Moshiach ben Joseph). More examples later...
And now, the parable of the prodigal son.
Luke 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his Father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my Father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my Father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his Father. But when he was yet a great way off, his Father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the Father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy Father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his Father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his Father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Clearly you can see them both. The older brother is Judaism, never left the Father, the younger, Christianity, ran off with Jezebel.
Christianity in the prophets
Jeremiah 16:19 YHVH, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
20 Shall a man make ELoHIM unto himself, and they are no ELoHIM?
21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is YHVH.
Inherited lies, where to begin?
Lie # 1, the big one...
The Greek New Testament
Question: Why would the Jewish Messiah publish his documents in Greek?
That concept is complete and utter nonsense!
Zephaniah 3:9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of YHVH, to serve him with one consent.
And that language is Hebrew!
The works of Yeshua and his Talmidim were originally written in Hebrew and later translated into Greek with the Hebrew hidden away.
Why the Greek version? I’ll give you a hint, if you wanted to create a new religion…
And if any of you are basing any kind of prophesy on the Greek, well you’ve left yourself behind.
The Hebrew Matthew is proof of the original Hebrew.
See: Hebrew Matthew, The Gold Standard

Foundation:
The Torah clearly states not to add to His words or subtract, so what did the translators do? Both, and they didn’t waste any time. Immediately after the genealogies.
From: Hebrew Matthew
Matthew 1:16 Jacob begot Joseph. This Joseph was the husband of Mary (the mother of Yeshua) who is called the Messiah, that is, Moshiach.
17 (So all the generations from Abraham unto David were fourteen generations and from David unto the Babylonian exile were fourteen generations and from the Babylonian exile unto Jesus were fourteen generations. 18 The birth of Jesus was in this way:) It came to pass when his mother was betrothed to Joseph, before he knew her, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
19 Joseph was a righteous man and did not wish to dwell with her nor to expose her by bringing her to shame or to bind her over to death. He rather wished to conceal her. 20 While he thought on this matter in his heart, behold an angel appeared unto him in a dream and said: Joseph son of David do not fear to take your wife Mary because she is pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
21 She will bear a son and you will call his name Yeshua because he will save my people from their sins. 22 All this was to complete what was written by the prophet according to YHVH:
23 Behold the young woman is conceiving and will bear a son and you will call his name Emmanuel, that is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph awoke from his sleep, did according to all which the angel of YHVH commanded him, and took his wife.
25 But he did not know her until she bore her firstborn son and he called his name Yeshua.
Moshiach ben Joseph, clear enough. And this line…
19 Joseph was a righteous man and did not wish to dwell with her nor to expose her by bringing her to shame or to bind her over to death. He rather wished to conceal her.
This is a direct link to this section from the Torah.
Genesis 38:24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
But, Joseph was a righteous man, Joseph was a tzadik!
Moshiach ben Joseph indeed…

When you compare the Hebrew Matthew with the Greek there are many instances where is shows Yeshua’s words were edited and anyone who would do that wouldn’t have any problem with editing Paul’s words or anyone else for that matter.
For example:
KJV
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the Torah, till all things be accomplished.
Hebrew Matthew
Matthew 5:17 At that time Yeshua said to his disciples: Do not think that I came to annul the Torah, but to fulfill it.
18 Truly I say to you that until heaven and earth (depart) not one letter or dot shall be abolished from the Torah or the Prophets, because all will be fulfilled.
You can keep the ‘jot or tittle’ whatever they are!
Do not subtract!
Matthew (from the Greek)
6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Hebrew Matthew
6:25 Therefore I say to you: do not be anxious for the food for your souls nor for the clothing for your body, because the soul is more precious than food and the body than clothing.
26 Behold the birds of the sky which sow not nor reap nor gather into barns, but your exalted Father feeds (them). Are you not more precious than they? 27 Who among you of those who are anxious is able to add to his height one cubit?
28 If this is the case, why are you anxious for clothes? Behold the lilies of Sharon, that is, "Gilyon," (in growing they neither spin nor weave).
29 But I say to you that King Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like these.
This sentence ‘Behold the lilies of Sharon’ points directly to Shir HaSharim!
חֲבַצֶּלֶת הַשָּׁרוֹן lilies of Sharon, same words!
Song of Songs שִׁיר הַשִּׁירִים
2:1 I am a lily of Sharon, A rose of the valleys.
אֲנִי חֲבַצֶּלֶת הַשָּׁרוֹן שׁוֹשַׁנַּת הָעֲמָקִים ׃
Do not add nor diminish!
Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of YHVH ELoHCM which I command you.
Another problem with the Greek NT is miss-interpretations.
And the whopper is from John.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
The correct translation would read, ‘Except a man be born from above,’ and Yeshua clarifies it a few sentences later.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Born from above, spirit and born of water, below. As above, so below.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
As above, so below…
Run over to blueletterbible.org and see the Greek for yourself.
Which means that Evangelical Christianity is a cult, a large cult but a cult nonetheless.
What some confuse with the ‘born again’ non-experience is the forgiveness of sins.
Luke 5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
And I’m not making light of the experience, it’s awesome!
A bunch of us went to a meeting (decades ago I can’t recall) and brought my friends sister Mary with us. After the event she went up for prayer. When she came back she was all lit up and she said, ‘I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.’ And that my friends is unmistakable! And very awesome, and after all, isn’t that’s what its all about?
Now, The Two Witness Rule.
Matthew 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
John 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
The words of Yeshua.
YHVH has two witnesses, heaven and earth.
See: Deuteronomy 4:25-26, 30:19-20.
There are many examples in the New Testament that fail the two witness rule and not only that but they contradict the words of the prophets of YHVH from the TANAKH.
For example.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Take note, there is no second witness for this statement!
There are however many examples of, well see for yourself.
Joel 3:4 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of YHVH come.
5 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of YHVH shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as YHVH hath said, and in the remnant whom YHVH shall call.
Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith YHVH that created the heavens; ELoHIM himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am YHVH; and there is none else.
45:19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I YHVH speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a EL that cannot save.
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? Have not I YHVH? and there is no ELoHIM else beside me; a just EL and no Savior other than me.
22 Turn to me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am EL, and there is none else.
23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24 Surely, shall one say, in YHVH have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
25 In YHVH shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
Hosea 13:4 Yet I am YHVH ELoHYC from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no ELoHIM but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
Micah 4:5 For all people will walk every one in the name of his ELoHAY, and we will walk in the name of YHVH ELoHaNU for ever and ever.
I’m with Micah and Hosea and Isaiah and Joel and…
And don’t get me started with Paul’s so called writings. For the record I do not think Paul wrote some things that are attributed to him.
And! If he is responsible for those writings I will say this, Paul started out killing Christians and he never stopped!p>
In some orthodox families if a member converts to Christianity they hold a funeral for them, which dovetails perfectly with the Fathers statement in the parable of the prodigal son.
...And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
How to return to the Father…
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Proverbs 3:1 My son, forget not my Torah; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 3:2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee…
...3:18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her.
The Torah is the tree of life, so read it and do what it says!
Isaiah 2:14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHVH, as the waters cover the seabed.
Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHVH, as the waters cover the seabed.
Proverbs 4:18 The path of the righteous is like the glow of sunlight, growing brighter until high noon.

Proverbs 21:13 Whoso stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
Matthew 15:21 Then Yeshua went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she cries after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Yeshua didn’t even hear this woman, then his Talmidim brought her to his attention and then, oh my, I can see him locking eyes with her, summed her up and called her a dog. Not because of her appearance (although there is a lot of crossover) but of her treatment of the poor.
Jeremiah 17:13 O YHVH, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken YHVH, the fountain of living waters.
John 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what says thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
Ouch! And clear enough.
Now onto one of my favorites.
Psalm 49:3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Matthew 13:1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the seaside.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
The key word from Tehillim (Psalms) is the word ‘harp’ and it is...
Strongs #3658 Kaf, Nun Vav Reish Kinnowr which is the root of the word Kinneret, aka, the sea of Galilee. Bingo!
There’s lots more no doubt but for now…

According to Gemini, The claim that the New Testament was originally written in Hebrew—and that its translation into Greek was part of a historical “bait and switch”—is a popular fringe theory, but it directly contradicts the consensus of historical and linguistic scholarship.
**The Scholarly Consensus on New Testament Greek**
* **Written in Koine Greek:** Mainstream historians, textual critics, and biblical scholars agree that the New Testament books were originally composed in Koine Greek (the common lingua franca of the Mediterranean during the 1st century).
* **Manuscript Evidence:** Out of more than 5,000 surviving ancient Greek manuscripts, the earliest manuscript fragments (dating to the 2nd century) are in Greek. No ancient Hebrew original manuscripts of New Testament books exist.
* **Septuagint Usage:** The New Testament authors regularly quote the *Septuagint* (the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament) directly, rather than translating from the Hebrew Scriptures on the fly.
**Understanding George Howard’s “Hebrew Matthew”**
Scholar George Howard published an analysis of a Hebrew manuscript of Matthew found embedded within a 14th-century Jewish anti-Christian polemical text called *Touchstone* (*Even Bohan*), written by Shem-Tob ben Isaac ben Shaprut.
* **Howard’s Hypothesis:** Howard argued that Shem-Tob’s 14th-century Hebrew text was not a translation from Greek or Latin, but rather preserved a corrupted version of an ancient Hebrew Gospel of Matthew.
* **The Academic Rejection:** The vast majority of textual critics rejected Howard’s hypothesis. Analysis shows that the Hebrew text in *Even Bohan* contains medieval Hebrew syntax, rabbinic idioms, and errors clearly derived from translating the Latin Vulgate or Greek texts into Hebrew during the Middle Ages.
While Jesus and his immediate followers spoke Aramaic and Hebrew daily, the books of the New Testament were composed in Greek to spread their message across the wider Roman world. Howard’s work remains an intriguing piece of medieval textual history, but it is not evidence of a hidden 1st-century Hebrew original.
“Clearly you can see them both. The older brother is Judaism, never left the Father, the younger, Christianity, ran off with Jezebel.”
interesting interpretation, but, chuckle, “clearly” the wayward, profligate younger son in the parable is blessed by the Father far and away above the elder!
humm. seems the God of the Bible always blesses the *repentant* younger son over the do-gooding elder no matter how foolish and sinful his life choices. certainly the older son in the parable felt that strongly. what’s with that?
Oy vey, how much error -- you compeltely ignore the textual context of Luke 15. Jesus directs this parable at the Pharisees and scribes (the older brother) who were grumbling because Jesus was eating with tax collectors and sinners (the younger brother).
The text very clearly says the younger son spent his money on "loose living" (Greek: zōn asōtōs). --> no Jezebel
Furthermore, the younger son repents and is restored to the Father. If you, Tzaphon, think that Christianity is the younger son, the parable actually states that the Father has clothed Christianity in the "best robe" and the ring of authority, while the older brother stands outside, angry and refusing to join the feast.
Oy Vey once more - 'Jesus publish'??
As the Messiah is the "light to the nations" (Isaiah 49:6), His gospel must reach the nations. The Apostles wrote in Greek to evangelize the known world. Koine Greek was the lingua franca of the 1st-century Mediterranean, including Judea and the Galilee. The vast majority of Jews in the diaspora spoke Greek. This is precisely why the Septuagint (LXX)—the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures—was created by Jewish scholars 250 years before Christ!
Greek was used as far afield as Tajikistan/Afghanistan which had Greek cities, down to northern India while in southern India people traded with Greek speakers and there are Greek coins found in Kerala -- at the other end you had Greek speakers in Sicily and Marseilles and thanks to the Roman empire into Portugal and Britan
you claiming a Hebrew-only revelation ignores the linguistic reality of 1st-century Judaism and limits the God of the Universe to a localized language.
the BOOK of Deuteronomy says not to add to the BOOK OF DEUTERONOMY. not to close scripture permanently after the Torah - unless you also reject the prophets and the writings.
you refer to George Howard and Nehemia Gordon, who rely on the Shem-Tob Hebrew Matthew -- that AIN'T a 1st-century text. It is an appendix to a 14th-century anti-Christian polemical treatise called the Eben Bohan that was written by a Spanish rabbi named Shem-Tob ben Isaac Ibn Shaprut. Shem-Tob was accusing the Greek text (which dates to the 1st century) of being a corruption based on a medieval Hebrew translation written 1,300 years later.
Here is a fine example of CIRCULAR REASONING -- the original text in Greek of Matt 6:28 reads krina tou agrou (κρίνα τοῦ ἀγροῦ), which translates exactly to "lilies of the field."
The only reason it reads "lilies of Sharon" (חֲבַצֶּלֶת הַשָּׁרוֹן) in the text you refer to is because the 14th-century translator Shem-Tob chose to use the phrase from Song of Songs 2:1 when translating the Greek into Hebrew!
you are is using a 14th-century Jewish translator's stylistic choice to "prove" the first century Greek text of Matthew is a corruption. This is linguistically bankrupt on the part of your post
Deuteronomy 4:2 commands Israel not to add to the Torah (the Law of Moses).
So does that mean that you, Tzaphon, have tossed out the Prophets (Nevi'im) and the Writings (Ketuvim), which were added centuries later??

These are leading Jewish academics (with the exception of Bart Ehrman) - look at Orthodox Jewish scholars like Daniel Boyarin at UC Berkeley, or Rabbi Shaye J.D. Cohen at Harvard. They explicitly confirm that Rabbinic Judaism—the system of rabbis, synagogues, and the Talmud—did not exist prior to 70 |AD

on what point exactly do you think that Abraham, Moses and Isaiah would differ from what I wrote?
You do realize that today’s “Judaism” is Rabbinical Judaism - which arose from the Pharisee sect of 2nd temple Judaism — or do you disagree with that?
You do realize that today’s “Christianity” is Jesus-movement Judaism - which is/was a sect of 2nd temple Judaism — or do you disagree with that?
You do realize that the Babylonian talmud was finalized centuries AFTER the Christian canon was defined by Jerome in the 4th century — or do you disagree with that?
An interesting post. Thanks. But other than as a mental exercise, it’s not an issue for me.
No original Gospel accounts written in Hebrew? Hmmmm. What happened to James, the brother of Jesus? If he was killed by the authorities for his belief, surely the authorities in Jerusalem would have preserved any and all writings of James, correct?* In the Temple, perhaps? What happened to the Temple and all those Temple documents?
Suppose there were other Hebrew documents lying secretly here and there around Jerusalem for 20 years or more. What happened to Jerusalem? Oh, the Romans did damage it a bit, too.
There would have been other problems for the survivability of Hebrew documents. I’m OK with the notion that we are lucky to have what survived.
* I see that needs an //Off Sarc, but I don’t know where to put it. I can also see that after a hundred years of AI, people may be saying, “If Americans had this wonderful Constitution thing, where is it?”

+++++++++
The prodigal son was the topic last Sunday at our church. Pastor brought up the lost coin and the lost sheep too. With the coin and the sheep, someone went looking / searching to make restoration. This is where the prodigal son is different. Who went looking for the younger son? It really was the older son’s responsibility to lookout for the younger brother (you are your brothers keeper). Ultimately it was Jesus that came into the world to search for the lost soul (younger brother). Never thought about the message in this way.
