Friday was rainy, and both my Sister and I had the day off. Both of us could use some exercise, so we went to the IKEA store for a 2-Mile "hike". (Neither of us actually bought anything, but if you walk the entire store, both floors, and take the stairs instead of the elevators, it's a good workout.) Our excursion reminded me of an incident that I shared many years ago, coincidentally, about TODAY'S Psalm! (You KNOW I don't believe in "coincidences", so here goes:)

Mom and Dad were in London and visited the British Museum. Suddenly, Dad, stopped in front of a big black rock and exclaimed, "That's IT! That's the Rosetta Stone!" Mom wasn't impressed, but to Dad, it was a pivotal moment. Right there in the middle of the British Museum, he passionately explained how the Rosetta Stone, written in three languages, was the key to unlocking centuries of Egyptian Hieroglyphics, and thus bringing to light thousands of years of history.

A few nights ago, the solution to "Final JEOPARDY" was "What is IKEA?". The clue referred to a business model that uses customer labor as part of its selling appeal.

Long Term readers of this thread may remember the series on "The Tabernacle, The Temple, and The Ark of the Covenant." It was, in fact the first series in the History of this Thread that I began to save in my Antique Mac Mini. (Now I save them all.) Anyway, you may remember the saga of the TV Table my sister bought from IKEA and the Cryptic Instructions that resulted in Disaster.

I'll recap for our New Prayer Warriors:

My Sister bought a TV table from IKEA. It was packed flat in a very heavy box, but she and her husband (who had Early-Onset Alzheimer's) managed to get it home. Naturally, her hubby couldn't help her assemble the item, but since it came with instructions, Sis figured she could do it herself.

The instructions, however, were not in English, Swedish, Japanese, or any other known language. Instead, it was a series of odd pictographs which were as obscure as Egyptian Hieroglyphics before the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. Weird stick figures engaged in cryptic activities, which in no way resembled assembling a TV table. (One figure looked like he had lightening bolts coming out of his butt, for example. Perhaps this was an admonition against injuring oneself by using poor body mechanics? Whatever.) Anyway, Sis tried following these incomprehensible "instructions" only to achieve a construct that looked as though it belonged in THE MUSEUM OF BAD ART rather than her living room. Sis gathered up the alleged TV Table and threw into the back of the car, and returned it to the store with no explanation necessary.

While illustrations are helpful in instruction, directions are more readily comprehended when given by the written word. The ability to provide clear, concise, instruction is a gift, and a good instruction manual is a treasure. A Manual for a Vintage Motorcycle or Car sells for BIG BUCKS on eBay.

Psalm 15 is a little Handbook for living a Peaceable Life. In clear, concise language, we are given instruction to eschew evil, to keep our promises, and to do good. These instructions have served us for millennia, and do not need to be translated into Hieroglyphics. God WANTS us to understand the Manual. It's no secret!
