OK. I agree with you that ‘soon’ has baggage on it. I remember in the 50s and 60s that rock was the Devil’s music and a sure sign of the end. And AIDS was God’s curse on homosexuals in the 80s and a sure sign of the end. And a day was like 1000 years, and Jesus came at the beginning of the first millennium so the sixth day would certainly end before the end of the second millennium, and on and on.
He’s coming soon, for sure. But soon on His calendar, not ours. That could be before before I finish typing out this sentence and it could be in centuries.
But don’t scoff. And especially if you’re not scoffing, don’t do stupid things like stop paying your mortgage or sell everything you own. What good is the money or property going to do you or anyone else if it’s soon? Shows how foolish the Millerites were. Don’t scoff.

I’m in a book club at church, and the current book is a discussion of “hymn stories” — the history of certain hymns, the authors, etc.
One woman strongly objects to the hymns about enthusiasm surrounding Jesus “coming again”. “It may be today.” “Glad day!” “Jesus may come today.” Etc.
She thinks we shouldn’t be looking forward to Him coming soon because there still are so many still unsaved.
OTOH, she’s “Reformed”/Cavin (5 points), and is 100% on board with “the elect”. I’d think she’d have faith that if only the elect will be saved, then God knows when the time is.
Confused. Amused (sort of).

One thing is SURE. Within 130 years, each and every person on earth today will come face to face with Jesus. That is 'soon'!
Our life here is short. Eternity is long.

The only "soon" that matters is the end of our lives (which comes all too soon) when each of us will meet the Lord and be given our final reward--good or bad. Most of us have no idea when that will be, and none of us know when he will come for the Second and last time. Always be ready. If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.
