...It is worth recalling St. Paul’s words that “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). Thus, the Church is truly universal and eternal and favors no state or nation over another out of principle...
I recall visiting Rome’s Great Synagogue... The synagogue’s museum exhibit details the two-thousand-year history of the Eternal City’s Jewish community; we learn, for instance, that it was not Hitler nor Mussolini but Pope Paul IV who established Rome’s first ghetto. Yet the exhibit features a video on loop in which the late grand rabbi of Rome Elio Toaff praises St. John Paul II for becoming the first pontiff to make an official synagogue visit there in 1986...
As described in Darcy O’Brien’s book The Hidden Pope, John Paul worked behind the scenes with his dear Jewish childhood friend from Poland, Jerzy Kluger, providentially a resident of Rome since after the war, to establish diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Israel in 1993.
This does not mean, however, that since 1993 the Church has been unapologetically pro-Israel...
In the Catholic just war theory, there is no room for justifying terrorism. As John Paul II said on the World Day of Peace in 2002, shortly after 9/11: “Terrorism is built on contempt for human life. For this reason, not only does it commit intolerable crimes, but because it resorts to terror as a political and military means it is itself a true crime against humanity.”
Thus, Israel had the right to defend itself against Hamas. Yet it is difficult to accept Israel’s response to Hamas’ crime as appropriate. First... proportionality is a key aspect of Catholic just war theory...

Wars began lasting forever when the phrase "appropriate response" became the norm.
Israel is on the front lines of Islam’s war against civilization.

No wonder democrats love the Catholic vote, and usually get it.
The Catholic Church’s Just War theory: The bear ate one of my children so I will eat the bear’s cub. For every one of my children that get mauled and eaten I will eat a bear cub.
Antipope Leo and his band of communist bishop should STFU.
Protect the Innocent.
If your country savagely attacks Civilians on 10/7, and you cheer, and hide the murderers, you ain’t Innocent anymore.
Eliminate the Threat.
Never Again starts now.
Yet the Catholic Church instigated numerous Crusades. Phukin hypocrites.
I taught the Law of Armed Conflict for 30 years in the Air Force. The concept of proportionality only works if the opposing forces both have it as a foundational precept. Cowardly attacks (see “terrorism”) deserve an overwhelming, crushing response.

If you are one of the 2 million Christians living in Lebanon, chances are you’re going to have Muslim including terrorist neighbors in your building, in your hospital, school, market, street. So as if oppression from Hezbollah is not enough, now your babies are considered dispensable ‘human shields” by Bibi’s army?
catholicism is truly 'universal' they even built a temple to the serpent at their 'holy see'. By the way Paul's distinction was 'in Christ'.
Very well said in that context, BenLurkin. It would do us well to be on board with that.

Only for those who can’t seem to grasp what’s at stake and fail to appreciate a nation fighting not only for its own survival against violent Islamic jihadism, but standing on the front lines against that jihadism attempting destroy the world. It’s also difficult to grasp for those who hate Jews so much they can’t think straight.
After Sep 11 (medical condition kept me from joining, like it did when I was a teenager) I couldn't stand the concept that we should restrain ourselves from being the big guy fighting back too hard on little Afghanistan. We should have done like my grandparents' generation did to Japan after being attacked: hit them hard, then harder, then harder until they unconditionally surrendered.
IMHO it's the main reason that Japan had a huge culture change and is nothing like the warring cult they were before.

600 years is a long time to hold a grudge, but grudges are common and numerous throughout the “Holy Land,” in my experience.
The USA should just work with the Israeli government to make Israel a “Protectorate nation of the United States of America.” That way our relationship will be clear and codified for all to see.
Condi stirring the pot some more.
Maybe they shouldn’t have started or partaken in something they can’t finish or want to whine about those they attacked retaliating.
I remember this ... wonder how much $$$$ Francis was paid?
