Who in your life "just left?" When the breathing of your spouse ceased, the beating heart in your womb stopped, or the beep of your grandmother’s monitor became a flat-lined tone, what happened in that moment?
And what will happen to you in yours? Barring the return of Christ, you will have one… a last breath, a final pulse. And… then what? What will we be after we die? What will happen? Answers vary.
Nothing, some people say. We will decay and or disintegrate. Death is a dead end. Our works and reputation might survive, but not us.
Or, we become part of the universe. Eternity absorbs us like a lake absorbs a raindrop. We return to what we were before we were what we are… we return to the cosmic consciousness of the universe.
Christianity, on the other hand, posits a new, startling idea. "Death has been swallowed up in victory" (1 Cor. 15:54 NIV).
This is the Christian hope. This hope is verified by the Easter miracle, that stunning moment we celebrate as Easter. Do you know this miracle?

My Mom passed away in 2011. Many years later while lying in bed I heard her calling out my name. ‘What!’ I said in a questioning annoyed way. She said ‘Don’t be like that!’. Then I woke up. That is my life beyond the living moment of note.
A blessed Easter to you too, luvie! Thanks for all you do here.
I’m not much of a woo woo kind of guy but I have had two visitations like that too. Nothing crazy. Just a simple looking over like “your room is a mess” and a simple reassurance that everything is just fine. And then nothing ever since.
P I N G
I was an atheist at the time. I'm riding a bike when I see Jesus sitting under a gazebo with a few other people . Being a wise guy like I was at the time I'm thinking people need Jesus like a fish needs a bicycle . The wheels are slightly warped so I roll to Jesus and ask what kind of tool I need . He says tool 181.
For many years this answer confused me. Then I had an epiphany. He meant turn your life around 180 degrees than go one more degree beyond that.
When my m-i-l passed in the hospital, she was barely conscious, but at the last second, looked up and lifted her hands up as if someone were reaching down to pull her up.
She did it twice, then put her arms down and breathed her last.
It still gives me goosebumps remembering it.
My dad, on the other hand, went to be with the Lord in a manner in keeping with his character back in 2019. He was home and my mom had just gone to lay down and rest after being with him for 12 hours straight after he came home from the hospital. He was chatting with my younger brother and he asked him how the Cubbies did. My brother said the Cubs won, and he said "Oh, that's good, that's good." Then he breathed his last. Yep, that was my dad. Always the diehard Cubs fan.
My best friend (not a believer) told me when his wife died (she was a believer) she was laying in a bed and suddenly said No! not yet...I have to get my coat. A few seconds later she said..Ok I’m ready now and she raised her arms up to take hold of who she was speaking to. Then she went comatose and took her last breath 12 hours later.
Our pastor sat at many deathbeds. He reported that many believers recognized Jesus coming to take them, as you described.
I hope you and yours are having a blessed Easter too, luvie!
A slightly different story: my mother had some kind of “event” that left her apparently alert but not responsive. She was awake, ate, seemed to notice what was going on around her, but didn’t talk or respond to anyone. She had been in the hospital for a week when the medicos told my brother he needed to find a place for her because they needed the bed. I was driving back to Illinois when my brother called and we talked about the next step. Placing mom in a nursing home was a repellent thought to both of us, yet he lacked the resources to care for her in his home. He hung up to return to her bedside and I prayed. I told God she had been a faithful servant all her life and I asked Him to release her and take her home. About 30 seconds after I said “amen” my brother called and told me that by the time he got back to her room she was dead.
That would have given me goosebumps, too! 😲

My 92-year-old grandmother had become feeble and seemed ready to go--but she hung on and on. I prayed for her release, but she continued hanging on and on. I asked God why, and back came His answer: I was the culprit. I wasn't really willing to let her go.
So I did, and off she went!
Thanks for the ping.
A very blessed Easter to you and yours, luvie.
You’re welcome. Thank you for your beautiful post…..that I saw after the ping.
