My very talented nephew wanted to learn a Classic Rock Song on Guitar that had many, many chords, up the neck of the guitar. The song had originally been written in E minor, but the lead singer of the Eagles said it was too high to sing (it would have been easy in E minor to play though!). So the song was transposed to B minor, to accommodate the singer's voice. This made the 10 chords in the song much harder to play, necessitating what we call "Barre Chords", which contort the hand, and are difficult for a beginning guitarist. I drew the chords on a piece of paper, carefully drawing the strings and frets free-hand so that Josh could visualize the chords...and remember, there were ten of them.

The following week, Josh gave me a little present...a RULER!

As free as we are in Christ, He is our Ruler. He sets the Standard, and we walk humbly before Him. When we try to do it under our own power, the lines are not straight, and confusion results.

The last few Chapters of the Book of Job are a delight to read. Although I can detect a hint of sarcasm in God's monologue, it's completely justifiable. After all, Job and his "friends" have been bloviating about the very Nature of the Almighty, out of their own epistemology, for the last 37 chapters. They had been, in fact, trying to "measure" God, using their own "rulers".

In Graphic Design, we had a funny little ruler that had three sides, like a long triangle. This was for "specing type", an obsolete function which is now done by computer. There were six different scales on this "ruler" (called a "Scale" in the business), and the terms hearkened back to the days of lead type and printing presses. The old-fashioned Printer's Scale was similar to the opinions of Job and his "friends".

The Printer's Scale was a foot long, so you could still use it to measure feet. No matter what scale was printed on each of the six faces of the scale, it was STILL a foot long.

God uses His marvelous Creation to chastise Job and his "friends". He shows them through Nature that HE is the Standard, The Ultimate Ruler, and The Omnipotent One.

It doesn't matter what scale you try to use to measure Him, He will Always be Who He Is.

Prayer For Wisdom For Our Rulers

Heavenly Father, we know that You are the Lord and God Who appoints and removes those in authority. Father, we bring before You our own nations and pray that You would raise up and put down those men and women in our own nation that will further Your plans and purposes in our nation and throughout the wider international perspective.

Give wisdom we pray, to all those that You have appointed to be the governors and rulers of our own nation in particular and throughout the whole world in general. Give us wisdom to understand the times in which we live, and prepare us for all that we may have to face in the in foreseeable future.

Loving Lord, we know that there are many places of darkness and wickedness. Many nations that have adopted an anti-God agenda and that many of Your children are living in nations that are facing severe persecution and dangers. Thank You, that He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world, and we pray for all our brothers and sisters throughout the nations that are facing any from or persecution, because of the faith in Jesus Christ. Give them courage and uphold each one with the power of You might right hand.

Lord, we know that the nations in general and the leaders that You have placed in control are for the most part turning their backs on the true and living Way, and progressing the people in their lands down a path towards Your wrath and their destruction.

Look down in pity on all peoples throughout the nations. Search the hearts of all people we pray, and draw those that are seeking You into a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pity the people of the nations, and we pray that despite the mounting grief and tragedy in so many places on earth, that Your will be done, and that You would save many people form the jaws of death and destruction by the might of Your power. Lord, You are our God and we trust You. Shall not the God of all the world do right? Yes indeed, praise Your holy name, amen.
