Pope Leo XIV has issued a clarion call to Catholic politicians worldwide, urging them to align their actions with the Church’s teachings on the sanctity of life.
This new message follows on the heels of a recent pro-life message where the Pope emphasized the need to reject “voices of death” and embrace a culture of life.
Pope Leo firmly rejected the false notion of Catholic politicians saying they are “personally pro-life” but voting for abortion: “There is no division within the personality of a public figure: there is not on one side the politician, and on the other the Christian.”
“Rather, there is the politician who, under the gaze of God and of his conscience, lives out his commitments and his responsibilities in a Christian manner,” he said.
You are therefore called to strengthen yourselves in faith, to deepen your knowledge of doctrine—particularly of social doctrine—which Jesus taught to the world, and to put it into practice in the exercise of your responsibilities and in the drafting of laws. Its foundations are fundamentally in harmony with human nature, with the natural law that all can recognize, even non-Christians, even non-believers. You must not therefore fear to propose it and to defend it with conviction: it is a doctrine of salvation that seeks the good of every human being, the building of societies that are peaceful, harmonious, prosperous, and reconciled.
The Holy Father therefore told them: “The first—and the only—advice that I shall give you is this: unite yourselves ever more closely to Jesus, live from Him, and bear witness to Him.”
In “certain Western societies where Christ and His Church are marginalized, often ignored, and sometimes ridiculed,” he said, “only union with Jesus—Jesus crucified!—will give you the courage to suffer for His name.”

When he excommunicates Pelosi et al I’ll believe he’s for real.
Until then he is just mouthing words.
Give the guy a break.
This is the first time I can recall a pope address the issue of abortion so bluntly.
What’s the old saw? “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”
Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words.

I’m pretty sure Leo and Frank were peas in a pod.
Is that like a strongly worded letter?
How about an encyclical that states that any Catholic who is not pro-Life is excommunicated; any Catholic that does not agree that homosexuality and transgenderism is sinful behavior is excommunicated.
Clarion calls and strongly worded letters are performative at best. IMHO, if Pope Leo wants a church that believes the Lord wants it to follow holiness, then he needs to purge it of heretics and expect a smaller church.

“This is the first time I can recall a pope address the issue of abortion so bluntly.”
This is a real change from what I’d expect from Francis.
Perhaps, but you never heard the previous evil POS say anything remotely like that
Excommunications would be nice
It’s a start. Now excommunicate the evil Catholic democrat politicians.
“How about an encyclical that states that any Catholic who is not pro-Life is excommunicated”
Talk is cheap indeed
Try reading ‘Humanae Vitae’. Human Life. The encyclical published in the 1960s. pope Paul VI
To be publicly pro abortion, to promote it by personally enacting legislation while proclaiming to be Catholic excommunicates the person
The problem with discussing such things in a forum like this is that people demand and expect excommunication to be a trial and sentencing
It is. But not in court
To receive communion under such circumstances compounds the sin.
I’m not a theologian but it is basic Catholicism.
I’ve not met either man.
Praise God!
Yes, I add my praise to God! If he truly means what he said, He will start taking action, or it is is just a bunch of babbling nothing!!!!!
And it’s pretty sad that we are in that such a state that a statement like this coming from the pontiff is a pleasant surprise.
Pope Francis is dead.
Abortion advocacy is a tell tale sign of incivility totally discordant with the aims of our Constitution as clearly stated in the Preamble: “...for ourselves and our posterity.”
Abortion advocates can scream all they want, but they should *never* hold a place to shape public policy by law.
I heard about that, just pointing out the relationship that Newsom has with the highest levels of his church, meeting the Pope is common for democratic party leaders who are Catholic.
Isn't that already official doctrine? If not, correct me please.
