TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - New information was released Monday about the Amish family involved in two deadly drownings over the weekend.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell described this as a “spiritual delusion” which left dead the father and 4-year-old son.
The victims have been identified as Marcus J. Miller, 45, and Vincen Miller, 4.
The mother, 40, has been hospitalized for mental health treatment.
Campbell said she is expected to be formally charged Tuesday with aggravated murder.
The situation happened over the course of Saturday and Sunday while the family camped at Atwood Lake.
Campbell said around 1 a.m. Saturday, the husband and wife, who believed God was speaking to them, went to the dock and jumped in the water.
The sheriff said they were carrying out tasks to try and prove their faith to God.
Once they returned to the campgrounds, Marcus reportedly told his wife he was going back to the lake.
According to Campbell, a witness spotted him along the dock at 6:30 a.m. Crews later recovered his body nearby.
Then around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Campbell said the mother placed her 4-year-old on the golf cart and began to drive recklessly.
That’s when Campbell said she returned to the dock and drowned her son, which she later admitted to deputies.
After that, the mother is accused of forcing her remaining children in the lake at different times.

sounds like they were drugged.
In a golf cart?
This doesn’t sound like real Amish to me: “ the mother placed her 4-year-old on the golf cart and began to drive recklessly”.
Probably a horse-drawn golf cart.
sounds like they were drugged.

That’s what I was thinking too.
There’s something strange about this story.
I wonder what the toxicology and blood tests will reveal.
In Ohio, THC is legal, and you can actually accidentally buy THC infused beverages if you don’t read the labeling.
I know some people would scoff at this theory, but for someone with zero experience and tolerance for THC (such as some Amish, for example), it can really mess with your head.
in a golfcart? This doesn’t sound Amish to me. Maybe former Amish.
Depending on the Bishop’s orders the wheels of the vehicle have significance. The Amish are often not allowed to operate any vehicle with rubber wheels. The golf cart, having battery power would likely be okay. Something seriously mysterious with this Amish family.
Yeah. Normally they drive Escalades.
Father and son - not witches.
But mom...

I had no idea such drinks were on the market. Do you know the names of such products? That is really scary and yes I could agree they might have been drugged.
“...while the family camped...”
Amish go camping?
Horse drawn golf cart...................
GMTA!..............
Both Mennonites and Amish in Ohio and Indiana.
Went to school with them in SW Indiana and now I buy food from them in NW Ohio :)
I was at local hospital (Western Pa.) a few weeks ago, and a young Amish man was there also waiting for a test.
Saw a busload walking around Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park this Summer.
Thank God you made it out ok. They sound deranged. Drugging and drowning. Yieks!
