Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Exodus 4:1-9

Signs for Moses

4 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”

2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”

“A staff,” he replied.

3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”

Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

6 Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[a]—it had become as white as snow.

7 “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.

8 Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. 9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.”

Oh LORD, Our God!
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,
How Perfect You Are!
My Heart is Overwhelmed With Your Glory,
Your Magnificence, and Your Power!
When I think of how Awesome You Are,
Of How You Transcend Time and Space,
Of How You Created Everything That Is and Ever Was,
Of How You Tell History From The Beginning to The End
and The End to The Beginning,
Of How You Give us a Glimpse into Your Infinite Mind
through Your Holy and Unchangeable Word,
How You Are Faithful To Your Promises Even When We Fall Away,
And How You Fulfill Every Jot and Tittle of Your Precepts,
When we ourselves fall so short of the target,
I just have to stop everything,
And say, "How Great and AWESOME YOU ARE!"

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

I used to love rugged hiking. My dear husband, however, hated it. So I often put on my hiking boots, grabbed my water bottle and hiked alone. (Now, of course, I take my dog). I especially liked to explore trails on which I had never walked, and usually would find a surprise at the end. When we went to Hawaii, I was often rewarded with a secret beach surrounded by cliffs, or a sparkling little waterfall in the rain forest.

As exquisitely clean the streams and waterfalls of Hawaii look, they have a hidden danger. The disease Leptospirosis lurks in these crystal streams, because feral goats and pigs roam the rain-forest and pee in the water. While my dog gets an annual vaccination against this nasty bacteria, I do NOT. The Park Rangers and Trail Guides of Hawaii (especially Kauai, the "Wettest Place on Earth") are adamant about bringing one's own water on the Trail. We can't have the Tourists dropping dead from Leptospirosis, now can we?

Ironically, leptospirosis is considered a "Blood Infection".

Both the Bible and History Books tell us that the Nile was the Life Blood of the Egyptian Civilization. Every Year the Rains and Melting Snows from the Mountains of Africa would send a raging flood northward to the Nile Delta, inundating the Land and depositing a new layer of fertile soil. If this Flood didn't happen, or if it was insufficient, it was a disaster. A whole branch of Ancient Egyptian Religion was about ensuring these Yearly Floods. Different gods and goddesses, with the heads of various Nile Creatures, helped the situation along, as long as they weren't in a bad mood. A whole System of Sacrifices and Propitiations, presided over by teams of priests and priestesses, were responsible for keeping these deities happy.

There were even Water Stations along the Nile, with measuring gauges to track the ebb and flow of the River. Even Pharaoh was considered a "god" and it was HIS JOB to keep the Nile happy.

Now, even a good Inundation, abundant and on-time, would be worthless if the water was poison. And that was to be a Sign, and also the First Plague, if Pharaoh won't:

LET MY PEOPLE GO!
