What is NEW in the New Covenant?

A biblical covenant is the legal establishment of a relationship between God and His people. God takes the initiative, institutes this relationship, and secures it. His covenants are based on His love, grace, and faithfulness, and they are rooted in His eternal covenant— established within the Trinity before the foundation of the world—which was to save humankind in case they would fall into sin (Eph. 1:3, 4; 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2; 1 Pet. 1:20; Rev. 13:8).1

The author of Hebrews, commonly thought to be the apostle Paul, distinguishes between the “first” and the “new” covenants; he states that if nothing had been “deficient” or “inadequate” with the first one, the “second” or “new” would not have been needed. Paul discusses the new covenant in the setting of Christ’s ministry in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest, in comparison to sanctuary services in the earthly tabernacle with the animal sacrifices and the Levitical priesthood. He speaks about the “better covenant” (Heb. 7:22; 8:6) and says this better covenant is the “new covenant” (Heb. 8:8; 9:15; 12:24; [see also Luke 22:20; 1 Cor. 11:25; 2 Cor. 3:6], or the “second” one [Heb. 8:7]). The key adjective “better” is a comparative of “good”; thus, Paul compares the first covenant, which was “good,” to the new covenant, which is “better.”

…At the core of the new covenant occurs the special statement, “I will be their God, and they will be my people" (see Rev. 21:3). This covenant formula describes God’s intimate relationship with His people and invites you to enter into this close covenantal fellowship with Him, which will continue for eternity

Right, but they were non-Biblical. The article was referring to the New Testament era.

Many like the old covenant even though they can’t keep it.

A deep personal relationship, calling him Father, wanting His will done, is a scary adventure. Means you are not in control.

Over the years on FR, the consensus seems to be that the New Covenant doesn’t apply to Christians. Initially made with the “House of Israel”, then rejected by them, now applies to all in Christ Jesus. You would think that no Christian in their right mind would deny being under the New Covenant of Jesus Christ, but they do. Or, they say they are, but not the one foretold in Jeremiah 31, then Hebrews 8 and 10. Then what is the New Covenant they claim to be under, sealed with the blood of Christ? What’s the reason for their denial? If they admit to the New Covenant foretold in Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 8 and 10, they then need to explain the following...

“I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts”

Hebrews 8:10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

Youtuber Robert Breaker claims he is, quoting Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 8 and 10, yet he REFUSES to discuss the laws put into mind and written on hearts. Why do you suppose that is?

It’s so interesting. The new Covenant is older than the old covenant.

There is nothing wrong with God’s law and commandments, the problem was with the people. God said I will find a people and write my laws on their heart!

The Jews had been in Egyptian bondage for 400 years. That’s why they forgot the Sabbath, and God’s moral laws. God makes a covenant with them and they fail.

The Problem was with them.....not the 10 commandments. God doesn’t change his morals.

This new covenant grace no law theology is new, and has led to everything from the secret rapture to preterism, futurism, they don’t know who the great religious counterfeit is, they think Israel as a nation is still relevant in prophecy........and they don’t recognize the Sabbath or keep Sunday......

Jeremiah 31: 31Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people

The new covenant was made with Israel and Judah. The church is grafted in.

Vespa, you are absolutely correct. God’s people obey His commandments. All others shouldn’t count on spending Eternity with Christ.

“This content of the new covenant was nothing new; it was only the renewed appeal to internalize God’s law, thus underscoring the continuity of this covenant. This is exactly what Jesus was doing in the Sermon on the Mount when He explained the true meaning of the Old Testament’s teachings (Matt. 5:17–48).”

Here’s a nice summation from the internet...copilot answer

Gentiles are grafted into the vine of Christ when they believe in Him and become born again. This was God’s plan to have both natural branches and branches that were grafted into Him, the vine. God turned to the gentiles and decided to include them or engraft them into the vine after the Jews rejected Jesus as their messiah. Paul speaks of how the branch grafted in (Gentiles) will gain its life from the root of the tree. Gentiles are like branches of a wild olive tree made to be part of a cultivated olive tree.

More of a codicil than a “new” covenant.

It’s a new stage in the same agreement after conditions precedent were met, where the obligations are different, expanding the parties bound.

God’s internalized laws in our minds and hearts, Even with help from the Holy Spirit? Christ says we can.

Yet the SDA’s weren’t grafted into the tree until 1863?

The SDA are a broken off diseased limb that

1. believes in a different Jesus than Christianity, like the Mohammedans, Mormons and especially the Jehovah’s witnesses with whom the Adventists share the belief that Jesus is the angel Michael.

2. Believes that Sstan takes on the sins of the world

3. Believes that Jesus entered the holy of holiest in heaven only in 1945

4. Has a false prophet, Ellen G W6as their founder. False prophet with false prophecies, she was from Satan, making the SDA group a Luciferan non-Christian religion

Catholics deny that they are under the New Covenant of Jesus Christ. Same for most Evangelicals. That is a fact. Both also believe that Christ becomes a ventriloquist when He uses the voice of a created angel (Michael) in raising the dead at His second coming, DENYING clear teaching in John 5 and 1 Thess 4 to the opposite.

The bible identifies the Papacy as the Little Horn, Antichrist, Man of Sin, Son of Perdition, and 1st beast of Revelation 13. Over hundreds of years, every single Reformer saw it, RIGHT FROM THE BIBLE.
