Faithful Catholics have been saddened by the allegations — most recently suggested by Vice President JD Vance — that their Church has been complicit in creating the humanitarian crisis at the border. Vance pointed out that the Catholic Church has received over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants. Much of that money has been spent on providing transportation and housing for newly arrived illegal immigrants and helping to resettle them from the border to the interior of the country.
As a Catholic family, we had always believed in the mission of Catholic Charities to help families in need, provide support for women experiencing crisis pregnancies, facilitate adoption and foster parenting, feed the hungry and house the homeless — and welcome refugees fleeing persecution. Created in 1910, on the campus of Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Catholic Charities was launched to provide a centralized anti-poverty effort of individual parishes and dioceses in strengthening families and encouraging moral behavior as an important way to address poverty.
This noble goal began to change in the 1960s when Catholic Charities began to shift its focus from personal responsibility and individual behavior to blaming capitalism for poverty and crime. The Catholic agency began to look to the government’s emerging welfare state to solve all social problems.

I have been saying this about US Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities for years.
I had an acquaintance in the ‘eighties who worked for Catholic Charities. Her entire job was bringing in and settling “refugees.”
Doing it for free is “charity.”
Being paid millions of dollars by the US feral government to bring in invaders and get them set up on government assistance is not “charity.”
That’s a business.
Let’s hope that someone with the stature of Vance can bring some sanity to an organization that has been feeding at the government trough for decades conducting a money making business while undermining national security under the guise of doing Christian benevolence.
It looks like Catholic immigration services have been doing the same dirty work as the Lutheran and Episcopal services.
All illegals out!
The golden rule states that those who provide the gold make the rules so Catholic Charities is loaded with Leftists Obama operatives who push Obamas vision of a fundamentally changed (ie destroyed ) America.
They need to be defunded and go back to their original mission of faith based charity.
Bush Jr fought for religious organizations to receive government money and as soon as they took that money they were beholden to the federal government. I’m sure they justified bending a little bit here and there until they were bent totally over because the money became more important than the goal.
The same could beside about the Red Cross(SF earthquake)’89.
United Way. Executives lavish lifestyles.
AARP-Lefties who care little about the younger generations after a lifetime of building up their own wealth.
Blacks Lives Matter-heh heh.
As a resident of Albany, NY in the early oughts and working in local media, I have first hand knowledge that Catholic Charities was a criminal enterprise then.
All they did was import illegals and collect the taxpayer money for doing so.
If they ever had a soul it was lost at least 20 years ago.
Oh that reminds me .... one of my sisters fell ill with leukemia in the ‘70’s. As good Catholics, my parents applied to some grant program for financial aid from Catholic Charities. My father made something like $7.00 over the limit.
However, at Christmas, 3 weeks after Patty died, Catholic Charities did show up at the house unannounced with a bag full of crap toys. Broken, missing parts, every one. The doll they tried to give me had a cracked face.
Nice people.
Red Cross. :/
After Hurricane Irene in Waterford NY, they showed up all helpful like, dragging TV cameras behind them.
They gave flooded-out residents a quart of bleach, a cheap plastic bucket, and a dollar store rag mop. Seriously. That was it. Big help.
I discourage anyone from donating anything to them.
Catholic Charities was corrupt lonnggggggg before Bath House Barry got to DC.
*** “aughts”
If they’re doing ‘God’s work’....they can do it on their dime. Betcha they don’t.
The same goes for The American Red Cross, The United Way, The ASPCA, PETA and, yes, even The Clinton Foundation.
As you know, the Hendershott article references this one from a quarter-century ago, which I post for archival purposes: https://www.city-journal.org/article/how-catholic-charities-lost-its-soul
I’m not Catholic, but I remember when the Pope was Catholic.
It happened long before him.
He took to to a whole different level.

My Parish in Central Ohio was assigned to be a go-to for Latinos a couple of years ago. The Spanish Mass on Sunday is held after the two traditional English Masses in the morning.
What wads my shorts is the Missalette in the pews is bilingual. That’s OK, but the cover titling is published in Spanish with Englsh secondary.
Hard for me to see the electronic marquee in the parking lot displayed bilingual.
Parish member since 1968. A bit tough to swallow
