The Polish Parliament looks set to debate a proposal to ban the Sacrament of Confession for those under 18 years of age.
The move follows the submission of a petition to the Sejm, Poland’s lower House of Parliament, in October 2024. The petition has gathered around 13,000 signatures. A similar petition was presented to the Polish Parliament in 2023, but it was rejected because it did not meet the necessary conditions for admission, reports the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe). The latest petition attempt “met the formal requirements”, it adds.
OIDAC Europe notes that the petition describes the Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation as a “traumatic event” that “prematurely confronts minors with the concepts of good and evil”. The petition also accuses priests of lacking the psychological training to administer the sacrament to children.
The attempt to impose State regulations on Church practices, in a country where 72 per cent of the 38 million population is Catholic, revives dark memories for a nation that last year celebrated 35 years of freedom from communist rule.
Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki of Poznań compared the petition’s proposal to Soviet-era repression, recalling that under the communist regime, “it was also said that children should not be baptised or go to church until they are 18 years old”.
He added: “Only then can they come and confess – those who can withstand the anticlerical pressure, of course. These are old communist moves, supported by dubious psychology.”
Poland’s former communist regime also sought to undermine the Church by banning religious education in schools, rewriting Poland’s Catholic history, and suppressing youth organisations like Caritas, which were either shut down or replaced with state-controlled alternatives. Young people who received the sacraments were deliberately marginalised in schools and denied opportunities.
However, despite decades.......

What their position on transitioning minor children? I suspect their hypocrisy here is very very very high
John Paul II would be horrified at what has become of his country.
US and German influence is poisoning the country, they are doing what the Soviets couldn’t.
Poland is an outlier in Europe. The globalist need to deconstruct it to make it more compliant to the WEF. Stuff like family, church, migration, public health policies, and taxation. You know, everything in your life.
Poland can’t be bribed, like Ukraine and the rest of Europe. They have pride in their country and their liberties.
Fine with me.
My mother said 100 times a day, “you’re going to hell for that,” and “God will punish you for that”, “You have to go to confession for that”. So all I knew was that God was a nasty old man in the sky who hated me.
I’m still not religious. No one should be so mean to children
Age 7 (with proper instruction) is the right age to start Confession—both Orthodox and Catholic!
If children reach 18 without Sacraments of Confession and Communion, they will leave the Church!
+1
“prematurely confronts minors with the concepts of good and evil”?
Can anybody explain what this might mean?
Are they outing clergy as pedophiles?
Christianity and Judaism are wonderful religions but also they have very, very hard lessons to teach and learn.
It is difficult to be a good parent who passes on the hard lessons, but remember that a lot of the horror of the modern world is a direct result of parents and relatives who DID NOT pass on all the difficult lessons of Christianity or Judaism to their children and students.
These uneducated ones roam the earth acting frightfully and mercilessly, making hell on earth.
No wonder the pagans in the EU want to suppress the truth of good and evil.
Most persons go through a period where they depart from the lessons of their youth, maybe licking the wounds they got from being punished, maybe excessively.
Many will sort it out and return to the faith of their youth. Especially when their own mortality approaches, or when life deals them tough circumstances.
As I said elsewhere, the lessons of good and evil are hard to learn, but they are the truth, and are ultimately wonderful and very good.
“With properinstruction.”
Sister Rita-Claire said that to me after Vatican II. She would wear a skirt and stockings.
What? Childhood is when focus on telling the truth (even when only to oneself) is the most needed! .
The Bishops are listening to the wrong group of people.
This is what you get when you elect a leftist government, whether nation, or, inside our country, such as when the last part of the Virginia and New York legislatures turned Democrat: they’re not shy about using their power, and they go pedal to the metal
God still hates you BTW
“What their position on transitioning minor children? I suspect their hypocrisy here is very very very high”
One thing for sure: If they aren’t cutting off dicks yet, they had BETTER START SOON. One of the ‘rules’ of joining the EU, and if they don’t listen, they’ll get the Romanian/Hungarian treatment, or even the Slovakia treatment (6 bullets). The EU doesn’t mess around.
