[Catholic Caucus] New 🌈 Cardinal: "Church Was Unjust Against Adulterers" - "Only Polygamy Is Adultery"

Prohibiting divorced people who live in adultery from sacrilegiously grabbing Communion is "a huge, enormous injustice," homosexual activist Jean-Paul Vesco, Bishop of Algiers and since Saturday a Cardinal, believes.

He admitted to LifeSiteNews.com (December 12) that "it is the position of the Church" that such adulterers are indeed adulterers: "If you don't come out of this sin of adultery, well, you can't receive the sacraments."

"But for me, adultery is when you have two people in your life at the same time."

And: "To say adultery in all situations was something that was not true or just. When you have a person who has - as I had recently - a person who was widowed, who after a while remarried to a person who was divorced: because in her life, she's not an adulterer, neither one nor the other is an adulterer."

Cardinal Vesco, referring to Francis’ document Amoris Laetitia, calls such a sinful life "love". He believes that the Church "can not afford" to defend marriage:

"And so it was simply good that the Pope gave Amoris Laetitia, which says to look at people's situations, to discern, and then, in the face of this to reconcile these people with the Church, to bring them back into the body of the Church.”

Cardinal Vesco considers a divorced marriage "an accident in life".

Situational ethics in this instance is the camel’s nose under the doctrinal tent.

Exceptions are supposed to prove the rule, not consume it. If this Cardinal’s logic is allowed to hold sway, the rule against adultery can’t help but eventually be obliterated. And probably in what will seem like no time flat.

That’s not the point. The issue is whether divorce and remarriage are always adultery. The Greek Orthodox approach differs from the Catholic one. The Greek Orthodox allow up to three remarriages after divorces. The Catholics allow none, unless both parties have Catholic annulments (decrees of nullification), in which case, since they are seen as never validly married, there is no limit, and they can remarry.

The point is not wokeness as you indicated. Catholic teaching forbids remarriage if divorced. Greek Orthodox allows it up to three times (where you wrote that you attend). Catholic teaching allows for annulment (with no set limit as to number of times) and then remarriage. There was discussion, anticipation, and disagreement as to whether Catholic and Orthodox reconciliation attempts would bridge this practical pastoral gap. Catholic already allow married priests who come in from other Catholic rites or convert from Protestant faith communities.
