47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

There have been a number of movies about Jesus, most of them pretty terrible. However, when I was a little girl of nine, there was a really good one called "King of Kings" starring Jeffrey Hunter. Hunter played a particularly handsome Jesus, with striking blue eyes. I still remember sitting in the Theater and seeing a close-up of those blue eyes as "Jesus" came up out of the water after being baptized by John. Nobody knows what color eyes Jesus had, but Jeffrey Hunter's eyes were gorgeous.

Four years later, a perfectly awful Jesus Movie came out, called "The Greatest Story Ever Told". The role of Jesus was played by renowned Actor Max Von Sydow, whose portrayal seemed so awful to me that I disliked the actor for a long time. He was finally redeemed in my eyes when I saw him playing the Knight in"The Seventh Seal". That was in 1971, at a Film Retrospective at Boston College. "The Seventh Seal" is now considered a Film Classic and is taught in Film-making classes.

By far, the most ambitious Jesus Biography of the Era was "Jesus of Nazareth", a TV Mini-Series by Franco Zefirelli. I LOVED that one. However, there was a bit of a snag in that movie too, as Zefirelli used the same actress to play the Virgin Mary as he used to play Juliet in his beautiful adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". The actress appears in a brief nude scene which would be considered tame by today's standards, except that, at the time of the filming, she was rumored to be barely 16 years old. That's against the LAW. (It also didn't help that her last name was "Hussey"...YIKES!)

Jeffrey Hunter (The Blue-Eyed Jesus) was scheduled to be the Captain in a new Sci-Fi TV Series being shopped around the Networks, but there were no takers. Hunter declined working on a second pilot, and was replaced by Actor William Shatner as Captain Kirk. That was a shaky start to what became a Worldwide Franchise. The Pilot with Jeffery Hunter got chopped up and inserted into a Two-Part Episode, called "The Menagerie". It is considered one of the better episodes in the Original Series, but every time I watched it, all I could see was Jesus and His Blue Eyes coming up out of the water.

Actors take roles and reject them, based upon their own needs, the advice of their Agents, or they maybe just need the money. To some, it's just a job, but others throw themselves so deeply into the role that we might forget that they are "Acting". Then, afterwards, we may become prejudiced towards the Actor, based upon how well they portrayed the Character.

The better the Actor, the more Believable he or she is in the role.

Peter had a lot to overcome when The Holy Spirit called him to share the Good News with Cornelius. God used the Vision of seriously "unclean" animals to illustrate Peter's own prejudice. While the usual pigs and lobsters were against Peter's Religion, the Vision also contained some nasty, creepy crawly things that most of us would never even consider as food.

Peter had to be admonished that he had been looking at People in the same way some of us look at the prospect of "Eating Ze Bugs".

He may have even had good reason to feel that way. After all, he was Religious, he was living under Occupation, and he had experienced Oppression first hand. Why wouldn't he be prejudiced? These People weren't "Acting". They were really doing bad stuff.

Jeffrey Hunter, Max Von Sydow, and Olivia Hussey were all just playing roles, but I became prejudiced because they were such convincing actors.

I've mellowed a lot in the intervening years.
