Catholic mass was in Latin from the beginning. When some recent pope switched to English, many people stopped doing to mass including me.

The Bible tells us that the sign marking the site where Jesus was crucified was written in “Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it.” John 19:20
The apostles spoke Aramaic, but Greek and Latin had currency throughout the Roman Empire. It’s highly likely that at least Peter would have had familiarity with Latin. Relocating to Rome, how could he not?
