The contrast yet similarity with Judas and Peter is insightful for ALL of us.
Yes, Judas betrayed Jesus. That was bad.
In a different way, Peter betrayed Jesus.
Both Apostles were upset about their action.
Judas took that anxiety and responded by “atoning for his sin” by retuning the coins.
Peter wept bitterly.
Judas hanged himself.
Jesus Resurrected meets Peter again, and (we presume) is forgiven.
I suspect, Judas isn’t in Heaven…BUT, it is arguable that had Judas not killed himself, Jesus would have forgiven him.
The lesson for us, is that as long as you are breathing, you are never too far gone for Our Lord’s forgiveness IF YOU WANT IT AND YOU ARE SORRY.
Well argued, Bob.
In these two sinners the Gospel writers portray effectively the dilemma every person faces: in whom will you trust?
IMHO, while Judas may have felt bad about what he had done, his actions did not show that he had true repentance. True and heartfelt repentance, brought forgiveness and restoration of Peter by Jesus.
Well said.
I agree with you, Alba. My reading of the Gospels, and of Acts 1:18, suggests that the authors intended that we draw that inference.
‘Cursed is He who hangs from a Tree.’
.
The Good Theif took a better Twist.
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
Well thought out. I agree . Thanks for sharing it.
Bible, paintings, poetry....we have everything on these threads....love Frost.

Not sure it’s relevant but it rhymes.
i could argue that judas was the first martyr for Christ.
knowing he did wrong, but suffering from the sin of self- condemnation.
God knows the heart of man... Judas was playing a major role in the expression of free will.
i expect to see judas walking the golden streets... if but from afar and if i can see over the wall.
Scripture argues otherwise.
Mathew 26:24-25
24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
would the resurrection have happened if Judas did not betray Christ?
i guess this is one of those answers that await.
Of course, the resurrection would have happened even if Jesus died of natural causes. The resurrection is a result of the nature of Jesus being God and man and free from all sin, not because of the way he was killed.
God allowed the passion and crucifixion to show us how much He was willing to suffer for us (how much He loves us). And in doing so He saved many more souls from perdition (but not Judas).
God’s love extends to Judas.
I am sure.
be well. be safe.
