Pope Francis met with members of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on Thursday morning to discuss the importance of liturgical reform as a core feature of the broader “renewal of the Church.”
The address comes as the dicastery is meeting for its annual plenary assembly, which is addressing the “liturgical formation from Sacrosanctum Concilium to Desiderio Desideravi” for ordained ministers as well as “liturgical training courses for the people of God.”
The meeting will also seek to “provide bishops with practical suggestions for developing pastoral projects in their dioceses with the aim of putting into practice the reflections of the papal document,” a Feb. 5 press release from the dicastery stated.
Recalling that it has been 60 years since the promulgation of the Second Vatican Council’s seminal document on the liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, the pope stressed in his Feb. 8 address that liturgical reform underscored the council fathers’ objective of renewing the Church’s “fundamental dimensions” such as “spiritual, pastoral, ecumenical, and missionary” work.
“Without liturgical reform there is no reform of the Church,” the Pope said.
“A church that does not feel the passion for spiritual growth, that does not try to speak in an understandable way to the men and women of his time, that does not feel pain for the division between Christians, who does not tremble with the anxiety of announcing Christ to the people, is a sick Church, and these are the symptoms,” the Holy Father emphasized in his address.

Jorge the Hyporcrite has never has announced Christ to the non-Christians; he actually hides his pectoral cross when he's in their presence. And as far as pain for the division between Christians he discouraged the evangelical "bishop", Tony Palmer, from converting to Catholicism; and he has encouraged Lutherans to receive Holy Communion at Catholic Masses without them converting.

A return to ‘62, or ‘56 or ‘49 books IS the reform.
The Liturgy is the Deposit of Faith... that Bishop Strickland was removed for defending. The Bridegroom doesn’t change... why must His Bride?
Gets it right referencing us as “the people of G-d”.
We’re certainly not the people of this Commie Papa.
Frankie wants to rewrite the Bible? Izzat right?
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.”
- Revelations 22:18
Pope Benedict XVI correctly explained that the liturgy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, not political thing.
Now Pope Francis flips that and claims the liturgy is a political thing.
ebb tide is correct in noting that the Pope has abandoned his primary charge which is (from the Great Commission - Matt 28:18-20) to ‘go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Sone and the Holy Ghost’.
Pope Francis portrays less a holy man, and more a college frosh pranking the faculty. What a carp.
Reminds me of when Obozo said “fundamental transformation begins today” at his first inauguration.
You don’t “fundamentally transform” or “reform” something you love.
You “fundamentally transform” pr “reform” things you hate.
Meanwhile Catholic Charities USA is working 24/7 to get as many illegal immigrants into this country as they can.
If he wants “reform” he can begin by apologizing to Martin Luther and re-reading his theses to see if there is anything to be gleaned.
“Deform” is the most correct term.
On a scale of 1 to 10, my Bergoglio fatigue level is now at about a 12.
“Novo Ordo” was NEVER a Sacred Liturgy, there isn’t a single phrase asking for salvation in it, as compared to the Tridentine Mass, where there are several. The Mass of St. John Chrysostom is far more lovely and replete with pleas for salvation than both of the Latin Rites combined, a good reason that it’s over 1,600 year old and little changed.
Where is the Smite part RE: The Argentinian?
However one can easily attend the Mass of St. John Chrysotom, now more easily than the Tridentine Mass, without apostastizing from the Catholic Church as you have done.
Largely agreed, although I would drop the “the”.
Lovely tag line.
The only reform the RCC really needs right now is an actual Catholic in the chair of Peter.
Don't ever forget how the scumbag handled the death of Pope Benedict.
I laugh at Protestants who say the Catholic church needs a "new Luther". +Francis IS the "new Luther".
+Francis receiving a "blessing" from Argentine Protestants
I never thought of it like that. I guess he is. The original ML had the Churchs best interest at heart and he loved it (you may disagree), but Frankie does NOT love the Church and is a cancer on it.
