I don't know how true this is, but it's a neat story.

It is true that St. Boniface personally destroyed an Oak sacred to the Norse gods. In Saxony, if memory serves.

Oaks are not used as Christmas trees. Evergreens are used as Christmas trees because of the symbolism of being “alive” in winter.

If Jesus were a tree, would he not be an Oak or a Bristle Cone Pine?

Thor did not have an Oak Tree. The Norse god's world tree , "Yggdrasil, " is a white ash.
Boniface destroyed the wrong tree.

I regard many of these stories as possible but not likely. The commercial aspects of Christmas (a holiday neither Jesus nor the Disciples endorsed) leaves one suspect on all motives for their continuance. If someone finds enjoyment in their belief system, good for them. Peace be unto you.

Yes.....but I have not seen them in my ash groves here on our woodlot
I have an isolated population of white ash, theres very little of it within 50 miles or so. I am hoping the ash borer ( from Chyna) somehow passes us by.
My trees here are huge, 36 inches in diameter on the stump.

I just read that history.com link.Modern history as a discipline is a joke so I can believe those ridiculous ideas are being taught.
December 25th as the date of Jesus birth had to do with the idea that the conception of Jesus occurred nine months before the date for his death . It was a very early choice as the date. The Bible says that Jesus was born in the winter (shepherds in the fields outside Jerusalem) so it's plausible. BTW both historians and theologians should wander over to the agriculture departments if they have simple questions like when would a shepherd be in the fields in given areas.

I lost one a few years back.
I sure wish Chestnuts were ubiquitous still.

Every couple of years, they think they’ve produced a blight-resistant chestnut. It hasn’t happened yet.
