Veteran pollster and researcher George Barna is reporting that less than 2% of parents with children under the age of 13 have a “biblical worldview,” according to his new book Raising Spiritual Champions: Nurturing Your Child’s Heart, Mind and Soul, with the overwhelming number of parents reporting a “hodge-podge mixture of competing and often conflicting worldviews.”
In particular, he singles out uncommitted church-going Christian parents who have no plans or will to catechize their children, resulting in a “catastrophic decline in biblical worldview in America”
Barna explains:
Most parents, even born-again parents, do not really think the spiritual component of their child’s life is a big deal — at least not as big a deal as doing well in school, sports, or relationships. And even if they are focused on building their child’s biblical worldview, very few parents today — only 2 percent — possess a biblical worldview. They can’t give what they don’t have — and this creates a gaping spiritual vacuum as today’s parents are raising their children.”
Among other findings from Barna, only 1% of 13-14 year kids have a biblical worldview, with Barna noting:
“A majority of the youngest teens (61%) either believe Jesus Christ sinned while He was on Earth or hold open the possibility He did. Not even half (45%) believe that God created the universe. And an overwhelming majority believe that there are no absolute, objective truths.”
Barna defines “biblical worldview” as “believing that absolute moral truth exists; the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches; Satan is considered to be a real being or force, not merely symbolic; a person cannot earn their way into Heaven by trying to be good or do good works; Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today.”
Loss of religious belief is a hallmark of civilizational decline.
If true, makes sense where we are.
This would help explain the acceptance of queers and somehow believing one can change one’s child’s gender. We’ve had a good run, folks, but there is serious doubt of a recovery if those stats are correct.
The night is darkest just before the dawn.
“In particular, he singles out uncommitted church-going Christian parents who have no plans or will to catechize their children,”
What of people who are “Low Church Protestants” that don’t do catechisms?
I have a cat that absolutely convinces me of the existence of Satan.
Propaganda works.
Elite opinion spreads to the masses via the institutions the elites control.
Pray for the downfall of this Regime, and the evil elites that rule it.
We’ve seen what biblical parents do to their kids. Look no further then the duggar family.
Correct. Especially when that belief forms the very foundation of that civilization.
Some of these studies would not consider practical Catholics as having a Biblical worldview.
It is too late to worry about being in the majority. Raise your own children with the right priorities, and present the same to those in your life.
Trust God for the rest.
Another reason Satan is running wild right now.
“Biblical Worldview” == “Agreeing with George Barna”.
Seems more of a get the doctrine's right type quiz more than a poll about how many people are Christian.
While depending on his exact meaning, I think I agree with each one of his points--I could certainly imagine taking his quiz and because of wording coming up with an answer he finds wrong.
For example consider this one: "...and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today."
And now consider what Saint Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:4
Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.
Bottom line, this is kinda a fake-news poll.
bkmk
Yep, pretty much like my own take although you were far more succinct.
There is no contradiction, and only a false dilemma, for being the ruler of the universe is not contradicted by the devil being the god of this world. For the devil, who is on a leash so to speak, is only allowed to test man, providing the alternative to obeying God (without alternatives, the ability to make choices is effectively meaningless).
And as choices have consequences, good or evil, then one of the negative consequences is that of man, who was given the keys to the world so to speak, being its superintendent, gave a certain dominion to the devil.
Yet as said and seen in Job 1, the devil can only do what God allows, who does so as the only One who knows all that can be known, and acts in the light of that, including eternity, can and will make everything to ultimately work out for what is Good, with justice as well as mercy and grace.
See tag and be a recipient of the later, by the grace of God.
Which is tragic. NOTHING is more important than their child's spiritual life.
However, it is very easy to interpret them in a way that does contradict.
Thus the poll's data is bogus.
Yes, it is very easy to interpret very much of Scripture wrongly, however, while one may imagine that Scripture contradicts itself here (Jesus is Lord of all: Acts 10:37), yet my Scriptural interpretation is sound, as I can show at length, by the grace of God.
