Sunday Mass Sermon- Are We Saved By Faith Alone?
Word on Fire Ministry ^ | 9.10.23 | Bishop Robert Barron

Posted on 09/10/2023 7:50:37 PM PDT by MurphsLaw

Todays Sermon pulls from the 2nd Reading
of today from Romans.
The Sermon highlights the "Love side" of St. Paul's
Gospel he preached.
A contentious topic, to be sure.

Anyone who chooses to believe they are free to not obey God's laws, has chosen poorly.

Anyone who chooses to believe they are forced to obey God's laws to make it to heaven, has chosen poorly.

Forced? Where did you ever get that idea from? Christians keep God’s commandments because they love him.

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

Hmmm, written in the Gospel of John, TO THE JEWS. Guess that doesn’t apply to us. (Of course it applies to us. To say otherwise would be ridiculous).

In the NEW COVENANT, Christ puts his laws into our hearts and minds. Why don’t you ponder that.

——>Phil, it was written to JEWS!

How many LITERAL Jews observe communion, and specifically the Lord’s Supper? Elsie, do you observe Communion? ARE YOU A LITERAL JEW?

The GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST and the NEW COVENANT first went to the Jew. They rejected it. Now those in Christ are heirs to the promises.....WHAT PROMISES? Those made to LITERAL ISRAEL.

Galatians 3:27For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.…

The church is a CONTINUATION of literal Israel, in the spiritual sense...”Spiritual Israel”

The Israel of God

Abraham’s offspring/the seed of Abraham and heirs according to the promise

The true circumcision

Not all who are descended from Israel, are Israel.

For he is not a real Jew who is one outwardly. He is a Jew who is one INWARDLY.

How about if I read the ENTIRE Hebrews 8 and 10?

Still written to Jews; isn't it.

The New Covenant is literally the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Someone would have to be spiritually blind not to recognize that.

Same applies to the church being a continuation of literal Israel. Paul makes that point very clear , and I made it very clear to you.

I suggest that you stop going to communion. It won’t be of any benefit to you anyway, since you deny Christ’s New Covenant, which his blood is representative of. I’m totally serious about that Elsie. A Christian who takes communion without knowing why? Not recommended.

You say the New Covenant is for the literal, unbelieving Jew, and doesn’t apply to those in Christ? Christ says otherwise. I will have to go with Christ on this one. Sorry Elsie.

No, not necessary. It’s enough that you made yourself very clear that you will not be a part of Christ’s New Covenant. That’s all I need to know about you. It actually speaks volumes.

——>Then you will not be asking me any more questions; right?

Like I said, you’ve made yourself crystal clear in your denial of Christ’s blood in His New Covenant. More of your shape-shifting, vague, non-answer, answers would serve no beneficial purpose for either of us. I don’t see the point. Those who claim to “believe” in Christ, yet deny His NEW COVENANT, are going to fall the hardest in the end. They won’t believe what’s happening to them, even when it’s happening. God will proclaim “I never knew you, depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. In God’s people are His laws. They keep them out of love. This is how God knows his people. Ratified by the LITERAL blood of Christ, denied by those who profess Christ the hardest. UnBELIEVABLE denial. The Jews have nothing on them, as they both deny the Gospel.

Hebrews 8:10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Carrying on a conversation with someone who denies and shape-shifts the literal word of Christ, was my mistake. I should have known when you kept dodging point-blank questions. Lesson learned.

Lookie, not one question to you in this whole post.

No more QUESTIONS to you, per your request.

Sounds like a game. Let me give it a try.

Those who deny Christ in His NEW COVENANT, won’t be in _ _ _ _ _ _. (6 letters and rhymes with leaven)

Oh foolish Galatians...

15Brothers, let me put this in human terms. Even a human covenant, once it is ratified, cannot be canceled or amended. 16The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ.

You STILL haven’t figured out who the House of Israel is, under the New Covenant.

The House of Israel:

Rom. 4:8-13

8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

It is the faithful that are the House of Israel. The circumcised Jews thought they were so special that all the rest of mankind was cursed, and not to be considered equal to them. The message that John and Christ brought in the fullness of time during the first century A.D. was that the faithful, those who followed after our heavenly Father were of the House of Israel.

The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish BELIEVERS... i.e Christians.

A New Covenant With the House of Israel: Understanding Hebrews 8:1-13
https://www.clr4u.org/writings/essays/a-new-covenant-with-the-house-of-israel/

All of this brings us back to Hebrews 8, which, by citing from Jeremiah 30-33, not only unveils the indissoluble link between OTKP and the New Covenant, but also enables us to see that all OTKP is fulfilled among the New Covenant people of God, the Church.

How exactly does it do this? To find out, we must ask ourselves, “To whom is the writer writing?” The answer is obvious: He is writing to first-century Christians; to the human parties of the New Covenant in Christ; to members of his Body, the Church. Yes, in all likelihood, most of them were ethnic Jews, though we cannot rule out the possibility that some of them—especially those with previous involvement in Judaism—were Gentiles. But for the writer of the epistle, the ethnic background of his audience was of relatively little importance. His real concern was that certain Christian people were seriously contemplating a return to Judaism.

Now, in addressing these Christians, the writer cites Jeremiah 31:31-34, and clearly does so on the assumption that Jeremiah was speaking about them; about the people of the New Covenant; about the Church. This implies that Jeremiah 31:31-34—and all the OTKP prophecies in its immediate vicinity—are fulfilled in the Church. Moreover, it also implies that dozens of other OTKP’s in the prophetic cannon must also be fulfilled in the Church, for as we have just seen, they bear a compelling family resemblance to Jeremiah’s. Thus, by applying Jeremiah 31:31-34 to the Christian Church of his day, the writer to the Hebrews strongly suggests—and clearly assumes —that all OTKP is fulfilled under the New Covenant among the New Covenant people of God, the Church.

Objecting to this weighty conclusion, some may ask, “But when Jeremiah says that God will effect a New Covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, is he not speaking exclusively of ethnic Jews?” As we saw earlier in our journey, the NT replies decisively: No, he is not. He is speaking of those who are Jews inwardly; of those whose praise (Hebrew judah) is not from man, but from God (Romans 2:29); of those who are the sons of Abraham by faith in Christ (Romans 4:16); of the (elect) children of the promise (Rom. 9:6-8); of the true circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, and who put no confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3; Colossians 2:11); of those who “hold fast” to Christ until the end, and so “prevail with God” in order to inherit eternal life (Genesis 32:28; Hebrews 3:14, 4:14, 6:18, 10:23; Revelation 3:21). Yes, some of these believers are Jews according to the flesh, while others are Gentiles according to the flesh. But in God’s sight, their physical descent counts for nothing. What counts is a new spiritual creation resulting in faith in Christ (Galatians 6:14-16). These “new creatures in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:17) are the eschatological Israel of God, the eschatological Judah of God, and the eschatological race, nation, and people of God (1 Peter 2:10). It is of these, and these alone, that Jeremiah and the other prophets wrote in OTKP. 2,3

We conclude, then, that Hebrews 8 is indeed a NT text of vast eschatological importance, seeing that it declares the eternal obsolescence of all OT institutions, rules out prophetic literalism, and stands as an open invitation to Christians everywhere, that they may—and should—use the New Covenant

By your own conclusions, the NEW COVENANT, ratified by the blood of Christ, doesn’t include you, Elsie. You weren’t called. You weren’t promised eternal inheritance. Too bad for you.

In name only are you a Christian. The NEW COVENANT seals the deal, LITERALLY, with the blood of Christ. Lots of INO Christians like to claim that they are included under the NEW COVENANT (unlike you, claiming you are not), yet, they conveniently forget the part about laws, written in the mind and heart.

11 But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, 12 and he entered once for all into the most holy place not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himself secured eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciences from dead works to worship the living God. 15 And so he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, since he died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant (Hebrews 9:11-15).
