Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

John 2

Jesus Clears the Temple Courts

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c]

18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”

19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”

20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
You Alone are LORD,
You Alone are Sovereign.
You Are The Desire of All Nations!
Nations hunger for Glory, But You Own it All.
You Own All The Gold and Silver that are the Standards of Nations' Economies,
That Back Exploration and Commerce,
And Caused Rivalries and Conflict throughout History.
And Yet, what is it that the Nations really desire?
Without You, the Nations are Just a drop in the Bucket.
For unless YOU build the House, they that labor on it work in vain.
Blessed is the Nation whose God is Yahweh.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

By now, you all know that we are taking this thread through the Gospels in order, story by story rather than by "Chapters". This is the first time in the life of this Thread, although I have gone through the Gospel of John once before. That's why some of the stories are familiar. I am hoping to go through the Book of Acts next, so we can hear the rest of Dr. Luke's Story. After that, if you like, we can continue with the rest of the New Testament. Let me know what you want to see in the future.

If you ever have a chance to go to Jerusalem, I highly recommend the Robinson Archaeological Park. It is located at the Southwest Corner of the Temple Mount, outside the Retaining Wall, and is fascinating. It was just being unearthed 40 years ago when I visited, but now there is so much more to see.It has a direct connection to Today's Scripture reading. Here is what I wrote about it a few years ago:

The Tour group had all gone home, but Hubby and I were still in Jerusalem. We had seen the Churches, Visited the Western Wall, Walked the Via Dolorosa, Worshiped and Prayed together with our group, and Celebrated The Feast of Tabernacles. (We also prayed for the USA to move its Embassy to Jerusalem, and THAT prayer has been answered 34 YEARS later!). Anyway we were now alone in Jerusalem with no guide, no schedule, and very little money.

I am really into Biblical Archaeology so I dragged Hubby to a dig where we could tour for free. Three dollars got us a personal guide to the site, which was on the south side (in: direct sunshine) of the Wall around the Temple Mount. The dig was very well-ordered, with careful reconstruction clearly marked so anyone could tell what was new and what was original. The Archaeologists had uncovered a beautiful marble staircase that spread the length of the wall. Around it, they found several Mikvaot (Ritual Baths) and the remains of what looked like shops or booths. She explained to us that only perfect animals were acceptable for sacrifice, so, for people coming from afar, a perfect, already authorized animal could be purchased right there on the spot. That was a good thing, because, imagine bringing your own from afar and then having it be rejected!

Now, people came from everywhere, with their own region's currency jingling in their pockets. The vendors selling the animals couldn't be expected to know all the currency, so there were money changers who, for a fee, would change the foreign money into the Shekel of The Sanctuary. This also was a good, convenient thing for worshipers. The Archaeologist stated that RIGHT WHERE WE WERE STANDING, they found bunches and piles of coins...all foreign and mixed together. They were scattered everywhere in that particular area.

Hubby and I gave each other a look. Oh My...were we standing on the very place where Jesus had tipped over the table of a Money Changer who was overcharging the worshipers, skimming off the top, profiteering from people's faith, and just being a thief right in the midst of the House of God?

Just. WOW!

In my humble opinion that was one of the best "Sites" on the Entire Tour...the one that WASN'T in the Brochure.

Several years ago, a certain Pop Singer (named after Jesus's Mother, you know who I mean) decided she wanted to dabble into Jewish Mysticism, a study called "Kabbalah". This is not Mainstream Judaism, but is considered a Secret Art. We have similar dark writings in Christianity and we are supposed to leave them alone. It is, however, a free country, so whatever floats her boat. Anyway, one of the superstitions associated with Kabbalah is a Red String worn on the wrist for "protection". For years, Madonna sported a Red String on her wrist, and a lot of her fans did too.

Imagine my horror when I found out recently that there are street hawkers hovering around the Western Wall Plaza selling Red Strings at exorbitant prices to unsuspecting Tourists. They weren't there in 1984 when I prayed at the Wall, so this must be just since Madonna popularized the Red String. It has come to the point that Tour Guides have to warn people about "The Red String Guys". I am not Jewish, but I think this is very sad. Since access to the Temple Mount is very restricted to Non-Muslims, the Western Wall is the closest that Jewish People can get to the Original Temple.

Anyway, there are no "Red String Guys" at Robinson's Archaeological Park, because it is in Direct Sunlight, and to the ignorant, is just a pile of rocks.

But those Rocks SING OUT.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 145

Praise. Of David.

1 I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless you,
and praise your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall laud your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
5 On the glorious splendour of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
6 The might of your awesome deeds shall be proclaimed,
and I will declare your greatness.
7 They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness,
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,
and tell of your power,
12 to make known to all people your* mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendour of your* kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.*
14 The Lord upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
16 You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfils the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name for ever and ever.
