Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 19

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King

28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38  “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b]
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Holy Name!
How Glorious,
How Hallowed,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise For You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are Worthy,
And You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!
WE Thank You For Your Holy Word,
Even When it Doesn't Seem to fit in with our finite way of thinking,
even if it "rubs us the wrong way",
even if it "doesn't seen fair".
For Your Ways are so above our ways, who can fathom it?

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

As I searched for images to illustrate Today's Thread, I came across quite a few that showed Jesus weeping over the City of Jerusalem. Many of the paintings use the vantage point of the Mount of Olives, which is the perfect place from which to view the City. I used up a whole roll of High-Speed Ektachrome standing in that one spot. When I developed the slides, all 36 of them were basically the same, dominated by the Golden Dome of the Rock. That wasn't there when Jesus wept over the city. Instead, it was the Second Temple, which had been greatly enlarged and "improved" by Herod. One wonders how much of an improvement Herod's renovation was, as no amount of huge, beautifully cut stones can equal the Glory of God, especially if there is corruption inside the architect's heart. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful building.

The Dome of the Rock was built by the Umayyad Caliphate (Islamic) almost 700 years after Jesus wept over the City

I had a bit of a laugh when I saw so many paintings of Jesus weeping over Jerusalem, showing the Dome of the Rock instead of a representation of Herod's Temple. Was the artist ignorant of History, or maybe making a profound statement of irony?

After all, Jesus could see the future. He knew that, barely 40 years after the day he stood on that mountain and wept, Roman Soldiers would totally destroy Herod's Temple, leaving "not one stone upon another".

Now the following is an apocryphal story, and I don't remember where I heard it, but it is a good illustration of the fulfillment of Jesus's Prophecy:

Like Solomon's Temple, Herod's temple had inside walls that were sheathed in gold. Gold is malleable, and can be hammered very thin, but it would still take a lot of gold to do that. The current Dome of the Rock has a thin layer of gold on it as well, so it CAN be done. When the soldiers came in, they took all the furnishings and treasures away. This is depicted on The Arch of Titus in Rome. Then, they set fire to the Temple. The gold on the walls melted and ran down between the stones of the main structure of the building. The soldiers dismantled the entire building to dig out the gold, this leaving "not one stone upon the other" and fulfilling the prophecy of Jesus.

Whether or not this story is true, the only Herodian stones left on top of one another are those that make up The Western Wall, one of the holiest places in Judaism. These are not Temple Walls, but part of the Retaining Wall around the Temple Area. It used to be called The "Wailing Wall" because it was where Pious Jewish People wept over the Destruction of The Temple and Jerusalem.

Looking out from the Mount of Olives, nearly 40 years ago, I understood completely why Jesus Wept.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Joining in prayer. God bless.

(I would love to go to Israel and walk the same places as Jesus did. Alas!)

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 147

1 Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God;
for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the broken-hearted,
and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The Lord lifts up the downtrodden;
he casts the wicked to the ground.

7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
make melody to our God on the lyre.
8 He covers the heavens with clouds,
prepares rain for the earth,
makes grass grow on the hills.
9 He gives to the animals their food,
and to the young ravens when they cry.
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner;*
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.

12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For he strengthens the bars of your gates;
he blesses your children within you.
14 He grants peace* within your borders;
he fills you with the finest of wheat.
15 He sends out his command to the earth;
his word runs swiftly.
16 He gives snow like wool;
he scatters frost like ashes.
17 He hurls down hail like crumbs—
who can stand before his cold?
18 He sends out his word, and melts them;
he makes his wind blow, and the waters flow.
19 He declares his word to Jacob,
his statutes and ordinances to Israel.
20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation;
they do not know his ordinances.
Praise the Lord!
