John Wesley on the Ten Commandments including the Sabbath. (sorry folks, he believed in the Sabbath none of this new stuff)

The sabbath begun in the finishing of the work of creation; so will the everlasting sabbath in the finishing of the work of providence and redemption; and we observe the weekly sabbath in expectation of that, as well as in remembrance of the former, in both conforming ourselves to him we worship. He hath himself blessed the sabbath day and sanctified it. He hath put an honour upon it; it is holy to the Lord, and honourable; and he hath put blessings into it which he hath encouraged us to expect from him in the religious observation of that day. Let us not profane, dishonour, and level that with common time, which God's blessing hath thus dignified and distinguished.

Based on the quote above, looks like the great Protestant Reformer didn't play the "law is fulfilled so we can abandon it" game. Wesley knew the difference between the moral law and the ceremonial laws and he knew when the Sabbath was "made"..before sin! For all time. He would laugh at today's evangelicals who make it an issue with the "law" when it's really about the Sabbath in the law. They ain't kidding no one but themselves with their picky choosey laws like abortion, homosexuality, etc. Get outta here.

We regularly get cult members here who try to use FR to promote their cult.

Which Sabbath did he refer to, then? Saturday (the biblical Sabbath) or Sunday, the modern day Sabbath?

I believe that the seventh day is the day of rest. I don’t see how Sunday replaces that. That doesn’t mean that we can’t worship on Sunday.

>>>Which Sabbath did he refer to, then? Saturday (the biblical Sabbath) or Sunday, the modern day Sabbath?>>>

Well, I believe he kept the Sunday Sabbath. But the point is, he didn’t throw out the ten commandments because of the Sabbath. Today’s evangelicals have thrown out the ten commandments to get out from under the 4th commandment. That is why Christians no longer even keep Sunday as the Lord’s day holy.

The Protestants of old kept the wrong day, many did, but in the right way. And I believe God honored that. The restoration of the Bible sabbath is an end time repair of the breach. See Isaiah. Today’s evangelicals have to say Jesus “fulfilled the law” to get out from under the Sabbath. They have to rewrite scripture to say “think not I have come to destroy the law but I have come to “destroy” the law.” See, in their scenario....he did destroy the law!

But it’s not really about the law, it’s about the Sabbath. So they don’t keep Sunday anymore because they know it’s not the Bible. I give it to Rome.....she’s honest about who changed it, not the Bible, and she says it is still to be kept as the Lord’s day. At least she’s honest.

Today’s evangelicals are in denial and caught up in the false left behind belief. A secret rapture, Israel, etc. No Protestants like Wesley ever believed that nonsense.

You can go to church anytime. There is no rule saying that you can’t go to church anytime you want to.

In Russian, Saturday is called Sabbath and Sunday is called Resurrection.

Oh Goody. I wondered when our resident SDA troll would show up to post another useless daily Religion thread only for flame and insult purposes.

Me Three.

And I remember how useless, pointless and vitriolic they became. So much so that the moderators began zotting those fanatic trolls who kept posting and posting that garbage.

Time for a repeat.

Sabbath is not just a day of the week. It is a state of worship/mind: A day set aside to worship God.

These days, some people have to observe their Sabbath on Wednesday.

What if time travel was a thing?

And seven thousand years was the setting?

And the sons of Eli were somehow involved?

It is Important to know that throughout his life, Wesley remained within the established Church of England, insisting that the Methodist movement lay well within its tradition.

That was only one degree of separation from the Roman Catholic Church.   Why should anyone have questioned his belief regarding keeping the Sabbath holy?

>>>And seven thousand years was the setting?>>>.

I don’t know but I do know 7 is a number of completion in the Bible. We are in the 7th millenium. I see prophecy fulfilled all around me including the Sabbath repair. More and more are accepting the Sabbath around the world. It’s exciting to watch. Revelation 12:17 is clear. Satan hates the commandments of God and in context, those are the ten commandments because the 4th commandment exposes the counterfeit and atheism. 2 birds with on stone......Jesus is the creator and Jesus made the Sabbath and he’s the authority.

You kiddin. Look around you here. Today’s evangelicals have nailed the Ten Commandments to the cross to get out from the Sabbath. It’s new theology that protestants like Wesley would have laughed at. He understood the difference between the law written by Moses in the book and the Moral law written by God himself in stone. That’s my point in all this.

Seems few if any of today’s evangelicals know anything about Protestant Reformation theology which upheld ALL ten of the ten commandments.....as Wesley did.

Ya.

I logged back to the site and was going to amend my post when I saw your reply.

The setting would have to be about six thousand years rather than seven thousand to account for a Sabbath.

You are astute.

Thx.
