The Sabbath remains on Saturday - that’s why many languages keep the word “sabbath” or variants for “Saturday”
Like
French - Samedi From Old French samedi, from Vulgar Latin *sambati diēs, from Latin Sabbati diēs < diēs Sabbati (“day of the Sabbath”).
Polish - Sobota - inherited from Proto-Slavic *sǫbota, *sobota, from Medieval Latin sabbatum (or from Vulgar Latin *sambatum), from Ancient Greek σάββᾱτον (sábbāton), from Hebrew שַׁבָּת (šabbāṯ).
Italian - Sabato
Greek - Σάββατο (Sávato)
English is a poor substitute for many languages and leads to errors as we see among many western groups.
Similarly the word “Sunday” - in
Greek - Κυριακή (Kiriakí) - the Lord’s Day
Latin - Dominica - the Lord’s Day
Italian - Domenica
French - Dimanche
etc.
Sabbath remains the last day of the week. As Christians we celebrate the risen Lord on the Lord’s Day - the first day of the week. Jesus brought in a new era and we keep that day Holy for the Lord
“Not once ... did anyone ONCE ever crack open a Bible”
When we relocate, when choosing a church we arrive early, sit in the parking lot, and observe whether or not people are carrying Bibles in to service. If not, we try a new place next Sunday.
I know some use their cell phones’ Bible apps (which seems weird). And some churches flash verses on screens, which we dislike. Carry a Bible, for Pete’s sake — and use it!
There’s no need for screens in church services. Or mega sound systems. For hundreds / thousands of years preaching was done without microphones and people got saved.
Last Sunday when we got to church three pews had been removed to make room to expand the “sound booth”. And our congregation is small. SMH.
If they at least put the verse on the screen with a reference to the version, chapter and of course the verse number, I must admit I like that.
Still, I went to a church that had one of the best, if not THE best Bible Prophecy teacher I know about. (he went to be with the Lord last year).
They (a couple of years ago) they were applauding Kirk Cameron telling them America would go on for 1,000 more years, the Democrat/Republican thing was no big deal and that he had a replica of a statue to was going to guide the nation back into righteousness.
It was bizarre hopium and frankly, delusional.
09/11/2001 had an effect. For a few years. I shudder to think of God shaking this nation again.
Since 2008, Americans have been taught to embrace things that would have shocked people even 50 years ago.
As we’re seeing today. In multiple places.
Wow. Kirk Cameron went off the deep end, didn’t he? He was holding firm in a good place for a very long time.
When I hear him speak, I hear Ray Comfort’s voice.
I wondered if I might meet him that day (as I often have very unusual encounters with people like that - including a few regularly on TV - and not always liked by everyone, LOL).
I had an extraordinarily busy job at the time too - with mandatory overtime (the best stretch was one particular 31-day period where I got 1 day off - ONE).
I just stood there, shaking my head as Kirk spoke, and the audience was clapping, clapping, clapping.
The Bible speaks of those who falsely claim “peace, peace!” when there is no peace. At least that’s how it came off to me (IMHO).
Kirk may believe he’s doing a good thing but IMHO he was giving them false hope.
Time will tell, of course. In the meantime, we watch and we pray.
Great pics. Thx.
The western wall is a relic of the base of the temple mount.
Josephus, the Jewish historian who lived in the generation after Herod, records that the Antonia Fortress was *North* of (an already existing) Temple (see his Wars 5:5). I believe that he also indicates that the Antonia was built *before* Herod extended the Temple Mount platform, which necessitated a landfill buttressed/ supported by a wall along its western side. A small portion (roughly 1/7th of the total length) of that new, supporting wall is what is today exposed and referred to as the Western Wall (Kotel).
At best, one might argue that this supporting wall’s northernmost end (hidden away today behind buildings in Jerusalem’s Moslem Quarter) was an extension of the Antonia’s own western wall.
here's a model of the Antonia fortress
you are repeating Robert Cornuke's statement but it doesn't reconcile with what Josephus wrote nor with the archaeology on the site
